The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
SPC Pernell J. Herrera, 33, of Espanola, N.M., died 31 Dec 11, in Helmand province, Afghanistan, of injuries suffered in a non-combat incident. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 171st Aviation Regiment, Santa Fe, N.M.

Pernell went to Afghanistan because he had a dream to come home and buy my fathers property(Johnnie) in Santa Cruz. Pernell was a wonderful father to his children and a loving son and brother. We did not want him to go, know he is never coming home. Auntie Loves You Pernell
