Agreement reached?

The Associated Press (AP) is reporting there’s been some sort of agreement met between the Democratic Party and the Republican Tea Party (GOTP) ending the perilous stalemate over raising the debt ceiling that could have ultimately ended in our nation defaulting on its debts for the first time in its history. President Barack Obama and congressional leaders announced the so-called historic agreement Sunday night.

Allegedly the proposed agreement would slice at least $2.4 trillion from federal spending over a decade, a steep price for many Democrats, too little for many Republicans.

Of course it is only a proposed agreement because the jack wagons of the Tea Party have yet to see it and comment on it, much less it hasn’t been voted on by the GOTP controlled House, so, it may be all for nothing.

The deal, with scant time remaining before Tuesday’s deadline for paying government bills, “will allow us to avoid default and end the crisis that Washington imposed on the rest of America,” President Obama said.

Default, the President said, “would have had a devastating effect on our economy.”

Of course Humpty Dumpty (Speaker John Boehner) was all gloom and doom even in reaching an agreement, “It isn’t the greatest deal in the world, but it shows how much we’ve changed the terms of the debate in this town,” he said on a conference call, according to GOP officials. He added the agreement was “all spending cuts. The White House bid to raise taxes has been shut down.”

So, there are no tax increases? That’s OK, those are coming when the Bush Tax Cuts expire, and since the President will be re-elected and the GOTP will probably lose its control of the House because of this nonsense, those cuts are going to become history. Then the wealthiest 2% will once again pay at least part of its share.

It appears the proposed debt increase will carry the country through to 2013; but the Tea Party Cujo’s in the House only want it to carry out for a few months. The President has said he would veto anything less than raising the debt ceiling enough to carry the country through the 2012 elections.

We’ll see if Boehner has the leadership credits to get it passed through the House; if not, then he’s through, though that’s pretty much assured now as the Tea Party smells blood in the water and is going to attack. Frankenstein’s monster has come home. Of course it could very well be that Boehner has found a way to ally moderate Republicans and Democrats to incapacitate the Tea Party freshman; if that’s the case, then the Tea Party’s 15 minutes of fame in the Congress may have passed.

Latest 2012 Presidential Polls (29 Jul 11 edition)

Hot out of the polling oven it’s the most current 2012 presidential election pastries.

Out first – from Gallup polling conducted from 20 – 24 July 2011 – let’s look at who would be the Republican/Tea Party (GOTP) nominee if it all ended today:

Romney 17, Perry 15, Palin 12, Bachmann and Giuliani 11, Paul 8, Cain and Gingrich 3, Santorum and Pawlenty 2, and Huntsman’s no longer being mentioned in national polls…

So, Romney (aka Flopsy Mopsy) is very narrowly holding on to his lead, with Perry (Pres of the 2nd Republic of Texas) making a very serious challenge (even though he hasn’t announced he’s running) as Palin (aka the Ice Queen – who also hasn’t announced she’s running) moves up while Bachmann (aka Krazy) is beginning to slip behind running neck-and-neck with Giuliani (of all people), followed by Paul, as Cain (aka the Pizza Man, who has never met a Muslim he hasn’t disliked) tied with Newter Gingrich follow, as Pawlenty and Santorum are still running a very distant last place while Jon Huntsman has effectively dropped off the national political radar screen (was he ever on the radar screen?).

But what about the Iowa Caucus? Well, if it was held today (according to Magellan Strategies polling: Krazy 29; Flopsy 16; and the rest of the pack are still running so far back they are inconsequential…

How about New Hampshire? According to PPP (D): Flopsy 25, Bachmann 18, Palin 11, Paul 9, Perry and Cain 7, Pawlenty and Huntsman 6 and Gingrich 4…

So, how does the GOTP pack stack up against President Obama?

If the election was held today, according to NBC/WSJ (which only asked about Bachmann and Romney) and previous polls for the others:

President Obama 48/Romney 41

President Obama 49/Bachmann 38

President Obama 47/Perry 37

President Obama 47/Pawlenty 37

President Obama 52/Gingrich 39

President Obama 53/Palin 37

President Obama 48/Cain 35

President Obama 52/Paul 42

President Obama 52/Huntsman 34

If the GOTP nomination circus – and the general election – had both ended this week Flopsy would be the GOTP candidate, and he would still have lost to the President.

Bachmann says her family is off limits?

The Associated Press (AP) is reporting that Republican Tea Party (GOTP) presidential aspirant Michele Bachmann (aka Krazy) steadfastly refuses to answer questions about her family’s business and finances, saying that she – not her husband – was the one seeking the White House.

Oh snap! Isn’t that kind of like it was Senator Obama running for office and not his minister? She’s been married to Marcus more than twenty years, is she going to tell us none of his bizarre ideas on homosexuality have run off on her? Same logic used against the President during his campaign in 2008. It was the far-right talking heads who let that Genie out of the bottle and now it’s come home to roost. How marvelous. Isn’t karma grand?

Krazy (Bachmann) faced questions about her husband Marcus Bachmann’s Christian counseling clinic that attempts to convert gay patients as well as her own beliefs on sexuality during a luncheon at the National Press Club. With her husband sitting nearby, Bachmann (Krazy) said she expected scrutiny as a candidate but questions about her family were off-limits.

“I’m running for the presidency of the United States. My husband is not running for the presidency. Neither are my children. Neither is our business,” she said.

“I am more than happy to stand for questions on running for the presidency of the United States,” she continued. “I have no doubt that every jot and tittle of my life will be fully looked at and inspected prior to November of 2012.”

Well “every jot and tittle” includes her family, her beliefs and her business dealings. How else are we supposed to know if she’s really the evangelical lunatic she’s always claimed to be?

Krazy (Bachmann), who’s campaigning hard ahead of next month’s debate and straw poll in Iowa, steadfastly refuses to discuss the family’s business that has faced criticism from gay rights groups. When asked to describe her beliefs on gay therapy, she said she loved her husband of 32 years and then said her husband was not a campaign issue.

Hold the phone. She was asked what her beliefs on gay therapy were, and that’s a legit question, she can’t side step it by claiming her husband isn’t running. Conservatives jumped all over Micelle Obama and things she had written in college, and now the tables are turned, and wasn’t it Bachmann who took on the First Lady over her views on breast feeding? Well, yes it was. If it’s good for the goose, it’s certainly good for the gander.

Interestingly enough Krazy (Bachmann) has also been facing questions about her opposition to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. The Washington Post reported this week that it has copies of loan documents suggesting her family used those federally subsidized programs in 2008.

“Unlike all of you, who I’m sure paid cash for your homes, there are people out there like myself who actually have to go to a bank to get a mortgage. This is a problem: it’s almost impossible to buy a home in this country today without the federal government being involved,” she said.

“We need to get the federal government out of these programs.”

Bachmann (Krazy) discussed Congress’ ongoing effort to increase the nation’s debt limit; and she characteristically downplayed the catastrophic consequences predicted if lawmakers allow the United States to default on its debts.

Krazy (Bachmann), a darling of the Tea Party, has vowed to vote against any increase in the debt ceiling and called the deal being negotiated on Capitol Hill as one based on “illusory” and “counterfeit” savings. She said President Barack Obama has misled the American people on when the government would run out of borrowing authority and has employed “scare tactics” that have needlessly spooked Wall Street.

“The current negotiations over the debt ceiling illustrate exactly what is wrong with Washington, D.C., today,” said during her speech. “The lack of a clear plan from our president to substantially reduce our debt is what’s scaring the markets. … The markets know when politicians are serious about spending cuts and the markets know when politicians are not.”

Like when GOTP members of Congress ran away from a plan proposed by President Obama to reduce the spending by more than $4 billion dollars? Is that the kind not being serious about spending cuts she was referring to?

Krazy (Bachmann) is a hypocrite and a traitor; she claims her family is off limits when for three years she’s repeatedly gone after Michelle Obama; she claims to love the Constitution and our troops but is playing games with the country’s economic stability in time of war.

Atheists don’t want 9/11 memorial cross?

The Associated Press (AP) is reporting an American atheist group has filed a lawsuit asking a judge to order the removal of a cross-shaped steel beam at the 9/11 memorial in New York or request that other religions and nonreligious views be equally represented.

The controversial cross was found amid the wreckage by a construction worker who said he stumbled onto a miracle. It was last weekend moved to the Ground Zero memorial – due to open on the 10th anniversary of the attacks in September – after a blessing by a Catholic priest. It’s to become part of the permanent collection of a 9/11 museum opening next year.

Dave Silverman, president of American Atheists, the group filing the lawsuit, said its main concern was equality. He said 9/11 was an American tragedy, “but the Christian community has secured sole representation in the memorial for itself at the exclusion of other religions and philosophies.”

He added: “What we’re looking for is a remedy that honors everyone equally, with a religion-neutral display, or display of equal size and prominence.” Silverman said American Atheists has offered to pay for such a display and has several ideas to represent all religions – such as a firefighter carrying out a victim.

Would that be an atheist fire fighter carrying out an atheist victim? How would we know if either was atheist? Do we know if there were atheists killed during the attack on 9-11? Do we know if any firefighters responding were atheist? Will such a statue have anywhere on its person the Maltese cross – symbol firefighters were wearing on 9-11 – which is a Christian symbol?

Museum officials said the cross was being displayed not because of its religious value but the role it played in the aftermath of the attacks.

“The mission of the National September 11 Memorial Museum is to tell the history of 9/11 through historic artifacts like the World Trade Center cross. This steel remnant became a symbol of spiritual comfort for the thousands of recovery workers who toiled at ground zero, as well as for people around the world,” museum president Joe Daniels said in a statement.

So, then the cross “being a symbol of spiritual comfort” makes it being displayed “not because of its religious value” how? That’s being rather anserous. Of course it’s being displayed for its religious significance, and oh by the way Joe, there’s nothing wrong with that. The cross was a symbol of comfort to those working at Ground Zero in the days, weeks and months following 9-11, and it should be part of any permanent memorial. Atheists get no comfort from it? Fine, but don’t deny others the right to do so.

OK, I guess my main question would be, why do we always have to have atheists protesting any time someone puts a cross up? If the American Atheists want a special spot at Ground Zero free from religious symbolism I’m sure an appropriately empty piece of ground can be given to them where nothing is placed; it can just be left empty. They can go and stare at it anytime they like. But please, they’re insistence that everything needs to “God free” and of not having a cross there – one that was found in the wreckage, and that brought hope and comfort – is as ludicrous as right wing uber-conservative Christians insisting Ground Zero is “holy ground” and has to be “Islamic free”. Both are wrong. Both need to be more tolerant.

Buchanan supports Norwegian attacker?

Media Matters is reporting former Nixon staffer and long time uber-conservative talking head Pat Buchanan “has discovered in the insane bigotry that allegedly animated Anders Behring Breivik’s horrendous acts of violence in Norway a lesson about Europe and Islam that we maybe should take to heart.”

Just like fellow conservative Herr Glenn Beck, Buchanan, after the obligatory denunciation of Breivik as an “evil … cold-blooded, calculating killer,” says that Breivik’s motivation was “to bring attention to his ideas and advance his cause: a Crusader’s war between the real Europe and the ‘cultural Marxists’ and Muslims they invited in to alter the ethnic character and swamp the culture of the Old Continent.”

But wait, Buchanan doesn’t stop there; he actually goes out of his way to help the alleged terrorist make his point by writing that Breivik’s distorted vision of a grand conflict between European Muslims and Christians “may be right”.

Buchanan states, As for a climactic conflict between a once-Christian West and an Islamic world that is growing in numbers and advancing inexorably into Europe for the third time in 14 centuries, on this one, Breivik may be right.”

So, the madman who killed more than 70 innocents is right? Buchanan’s history of racism is well known, he’s attacked everyone from Jews to illegal aliens to followers of Islam, but to have the same opinion – in any degree – with a pathological killer because you hate Islam is inexcusable. It’s time for Pat to fade away. MSNBC and anyone else who in the past has tolerated his race tainted commentary need to send him packing.  For some time it’s been clear Buchanan’s views have been more and more addled, now he’s proven it.

Dead beat Tea Party Congressman lectures others on fiscal responsibility?

The Associated Press (AP) is reporting that Republican Tea Party (GOTP) favorite, Illinois Congressman Joe Walsh, the fellow who won his race last year by vowing to bring fiscal responsibility to Washington and who has been one of President Barack Obama’s most outspoken critics during the standoff over the debt ceiling, is being sued for more than $100,000 in unpaid child support.

Spit take – clean off monitor – what!? It just doesn’t get any better than when “family values” candidates are caught failing to take care of family. This hypocrite is lecturing others on fiscal responsibility? OK …

The Chicago Sun-Times is reporting that the GOTP freshman congressman’s ex-wife, Laura Walsh, filed the claim against him in December as part of their divorce case, saying he owed $117,437 to her and their three children. The ex-Mrs. Walsh is contending that her dead beat husband loaned his own campaign $35,000 and took international vacations but said he couldn’t afford child support payments because he was between jobs or out of work.

“Joe personally loaned his campaign $35,000, which, given that he failed to make any child support payments to Laura because he `had no money’ is surprising,” Laura Walsh’s attorneys wrote in the motion. “Joe has paid himself back at least $14,200 for the loans he gave himself.”

Wow, really? You’re paying back yourself while not taking care of your kids? But why is this surprising – considering he’s a Tea Party favorite? He’s the backbone of the crowd wanting to keep the top 2% protected while throwing the Greatest Generation under the bus. Just another family values guy who doesn’t understand either the word “family” or “values”. Can’t wait to see the ads his opponent is going to run.

President should raise debt ceiling under 14th Amendment

As the debt ceiling lunacy continues, and the rabid Tea Party factions continue to become more and more unhinged, placing the United States’ full faith and credit in danger, and the economic stability of the country at risk, all this while American servicemen and women continue to fight and die in Iraq and Afghanistan, the President should give the Republican Tea Party (GOTP) controlled House until midnight on 1 August to grow up and pass a spotlessly clean raise in the debt ceiling or he should instruct the Secretary of the Treasury to do so under the 14th Amendment of the Constitution.

This is not something that should be considered at any other time, but our country is still at war. 278 Americans have given their last full measure of devotion while the morons on the right have postured and paraded around. 46 have died in recent weeks while Speaker John Boehner pontificates and loses his grip of control. Leadership requires leading and right now he doesn’t have it.

If the President raises the debt ceiling, without the approval of Congress, the GOTP will scream bloody murder and some will cry out for impeachment, while the talking heads (Limbaugh, Hannity, et al) will absolutely come unglued screaming that it’s a takeover, that the socialist dictator has finally made his move, blah, blah, blah; but if the President does this stating to not extend the debt ceiling, while the country is still at war, would be unacceptable and would weaken the nation’s economy when it can ill afford to be weakened he paints the GOTP as unpatriotic, as not caring for either the welfare of the nation or for its military; he comes across as a strong President and as a strong Commander-in-Chief.

Boehner has no control of his caucus, and Majority Leader Cantor has only an illusion of power, because who can lead a rabble? As for the good old boy from Kentucky, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has already openly declared his top priority is to defeat the President and prevent him from having a second term, so he’s proven where his loyalties are, and they’re not to the nation, they’re to his party.

The President has time to let the GOTP come to its senses, but he needs to back away and tell them flat out they have until 1 August and then he acts. Let them stew in their own juices, and let them fail, while saving the credit of the country. They can scream and rent their clothes, but they will have proven to the vast majority of Americans that they’re loyalties are to puppet masters holding pledges and not to the Constitution they’ve sworn to uphold, and not to the young troops defending the same; they will have proven they’re unfit to hold office. It’s a win/win for the President, but more importantly it’s a win/win for the country.

Soldiers are fighting and dying while Tea Party plays games with debt ceiling

OK Tea Party, you love America so much, and you love and revere those who have fought and died for your freedoms, and yet you play games with our national security by threatening to undo our economy at a time when American soldiers, marines, sailors and airmen continue to fight and die in Iraq and Afghanistan?

You disgust me. You’re not patriots, you’re traitors. You’re allying yourselves with Al Qaeda and every other terrorist group and enemy of our Republic.

Michelle Bachmann is a traitor. She’s openly stated she won’t vote to raise the debt ceiling. Are we no longer at war? No, we’re still fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan; 278 Americans have died there in 2011, while she and her Tea Party friends have played games with the country’s economy. Men and women are dying while she’s making glib remarks.

Speaker John Boehner, Majority Leader Eric Cantor and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell are all traitors. They’ve openly colluded with the enemy during a time of war by attempting to bring down the nation’s economy. Men and women are dying while these three screw around with the debt ceiling; 46 have died during the past few weeks while they’ve been opposing raising the debt ceiling. They’ve gleefully endangered our nation’s security while 46 Americans have bled out far from home.

Enough already! Don’t ever speak of your so-called love for this country again, you’ve proven otherwise. Raise the debt ceiling and then play games. Americans are dying while you pontificate! Shame on you! A curse upon you and your posterity, and upon all who support you! You and they do not deserve the rights and liberties you claim to cherish; you are not worthy to lace the boots of those who will willingly go into harms way so you can sit safe and secure with your PAC monies and your fat cat supporters.

Choose you this day for you cannot serve two masters; either support the oath you swore in your respective chambers to protect and defend or support the pledges you swore to the Tea Party, but choose. You cannot serve both, for you will love the one and hate the other; right now it appears you love the pledge and hate the oath.

Huntsman’s lagging because of dog days?

The Associated Press (AP) is reporting that Republican Tea Party (GOTP) presidential candidate Jon Huntsman is blaming his slow start on “the dog days of summer,” claiming he’ll do better when the election season hits high gear.

Except for the fact he’s dead last in almost every poll, finishing several points behind a former pizza company executive, everything’s fine. You can almost hear the GOTP hopeful saying, “We’ve got them right where we want them.”

When asked about his dismal polling numbers, Huntsman replied, “If the election were next month, I guess that would be a cause for concern.”

Someone on his campaign needs to step up and say, “No governor, its cause for concern right now.” Huntsman isn’t just last he’s dead last in every poll garnering around 2% of those asked if they’d vote for him.

Huntsman reportedly told CBS’s “The Early Show” that “it’s going to take a little while” to hone his message of “moving this country to a position of competitiveness and job creation.” He said “we’ve got a terrific presence in the early states” and said that he expects an even stronger organization on the ground by this fall.

By early states he’s referring to Iowa, or maybe New Hampshire? I’m sorry to burst his bubble but in New Hampshire polling only Newt is doing worse than Huntsman is; and in Iowa he’s not even registering, as in he has a 0%; so much for “early states”.

Point is the governor stinks. No one is going to vote for him. Partly because he’s a Mormon, and the right-wing uber-conservative Christian nut jobs in the Tea Party aren’t going to nominate a Mormon; and partly because paint drying is more enthusiastic than John Huntsman. Road kill has more people looking at than John Huntsman. More people watch reruns of Hee Haw than attend Huntsman events. Maybe his angle is to garner enough followers to place him in the running for the VP nod? It could happen; maybe whoever wins the nomination will need a boring VP choice? Maybe Romney will chose him as his junior companion (VP) and they can run with the motto they’re “On a ‘Mission’ to take back America”?

No one is asking for blank check, grow up already

According to the Associated Press (AP) Republican Tea Party (GOTP) House Speaker John Boehner says President Barack Obama wants a blank check from Congress to raise the debt ceiling, but that he’s not going to get one.

OK, Bonehead, you’re a liar and it’s time to grow up. The President hasn’t asked for a blank check. He’s asking for Congress to extend the debt ceiling, that’s it. So, I say again grow up. And oh, quit lying.

Boehner says the solution to the debt crisis isn’t complicated. He says if you spend more than you take in, you have to spend less.

Or Boney you have to spend less and get more revenue; or hasn’t it occurred to you that some people will cut spending and get a second job, or a better job, thus bringing in more income – also called revenue? Grow up and understand that defending the wealthiest 2% while asking the poor, the elderly and the handicapped to take cuts isn’t just wrong it’s very wrong.

The House speaker did say the U.S. cannot default. He said the crisis would be over if the Senate approves a new House Republican plan to be voted on in the House this week, and if the president signs it.

Or Bones it could be over if you’d start thinking with your head; and in case you don’t know, it’s that lump about three feet above your buttocks. This could all be over if you passed a clean bill simply raising the debt ceiling though 2013. That’s all; that’s it, nothing complicated. It’s time for you to shut your orange pie hole, stop lying, grow up and raise the debt ceiling; then – and only then – you can start looking into serious – real – cuts in spending, while looking how to raise revenue. Any real economist will tell you that you need both, any real economist being anyone not working for FOX PAC or the Heritage Foundation, or who doesn’t claim Reaganomics works.
