I have been a Redskins fan my entire life, but as Coach Allen would have said, “The future is now.”
The team’s name could be changed to the “Washington Federals” to honor the Union Army of the Potomac which defended Washington during the Civil War. It would be a name Washington could be proud of, and would have a cultural and historical tie to the city. Yes, there was a USFL team known by that team, but they were only around for one season.
The point is, find a name tied to the city and move on from this name.

I was born there, grew up inside what became the Beltway, and that was where my life happened for over twenty years. Yes, we can change the name, since we sold the Senators, after all. We can change it, and the Federals sounds like a suggestion we could be proud of. As long as it isn’t the Congressionals….please!
