No tax extension for you!

Once more, the Republican Tea Party (GOTP) members of Congress have proven who they work for, and it’s not the American people, at least not the 99% who aren’t uber rich. The Senate failed to pass an extension of a payroll tax cut, leaving in limbo a break that saved working class households about $1,000 a piece this year.

According to the Huffington Post, while Democrats sought to extend and expand the break, while paying for it with a 3.25 percent surtax on incomes over $1 million, just one Senate Republican, Maine’s Susan Collins, voted for the middle class break, which died 51 to 49 in an unsuccessful effort to end a Republican filibuster.

“I am extremely disappointed that Republicans’ insistence on protecting millionaires from paying a penny more in taxes has blocked our effort to extend and expand the payroll tax cut for millions of middle class families and small business owners,” said Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.).

One bright shining silver lining in this dark cloud is that moments after defeating the Democratic plan a GOTP version of the measure was blocked not only by Democrats but by a majority of the GOTP senators too.

Why did Democrats oppose it? Well for starters it was too small of a break — and it was supposedly going to be paid for on the backs of 200,000 federal workers who would be handed pink slips.

“Tonight’s votes highlight a sharp contrast between the two parties: Democrats voted to put more money in the pockets of the middle class families who need it most, while Republicans would only support a bill that exacts a price from middle class workers while protecting the wealthiest Americans,” Murray, the fourth-ranking Democrat, said.

A second bright shining silver lining was when Democratic Senators pointed to the defection of Republicans from the GOTP bill as an embarrassment for Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, who’d been predicting there’d be support for some sort of payroll tax cut extension.

“Republicans spent this week trying to convince us that they support middle class tax cuts, but tonight a majority of Senate Republicans voted against their own bill -– calling into question whether they support middle class tax cuts at all,” said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.

The President quickly pointed out how the GOTP was sticking it to the middle class, “Tonight, Senate Republicans chose to raise taxes on nearly 160 million hardworking Americans because they refused to ask a few hundred thousand millionaires and billionaires to pay their fair share,” he said. “That is unacceptable. It makes absolutely no sense to raise taxes on the middle class at a time when so many are still trying to get back on their feet.”

It’s difficult to fathom how the GOTP thinks sticking up for the wealthiest 1% while sticking it to everyone else is going to win any votes in 2012; McConnell’s always said it’s his first priority to make President Obama a one term president, but it’s very likely the President will win re-election, that the Democratic party will regain the House and in all probability extend its majority in the Senate. If you’re a Democrat running for the House, or Senate, all you have to do is point out this past year’s collection of GOTP protectionism of the wealthy while throwing everyone else under the bus; if you say it enough it will eventually stick.

McCain Offered Aid to Our Enemy?

Who has two thumbs, had aspirations of being President and promised to try to gain powerful weapons for ousted Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi two years ago? If you said John McCain – you’re right! That’s right “my fellow Americans” – as McCain likes to say –  the former GOP candidate for President told the dictator he’d help obtain American military hardware, according to a U.S. diplomatic cable posted Wednesday by WikiLeaks.

Of course it was just Sunday that Grampy McSame – his nickname from the 2008 campaign because he kept promising to do things just like George and Dick – said Gaddafi’s ouster was “so long in coming” because the U.S. did not use the “full weight of our airpower.”

Grampy travelled to Libya in 2009 with his turncoat “independent” buddy Joe Liebermann, and “pledged to see what he could do to move things forward in Congress,” the cable said.

So, Mr. “I love America” was willing to grease the skids for a known terrorist leader and sponsor of terrorism, really nice. Who’d Grampy and Joe think the weapons would be used against? They knew they’d be used against Gaddafi’s own people, against Israel and probably against Americans, but the two so-called Senators were evidently more concerned about provided defense contracts for their masters instead of protecting their constituents and our allies.

McCain and Liebermann were also accompanied by two other GOTP senators, Lindsay Graham and Susan Collins. It’s time for McCain to bow out and fade away, as well as Joe, Lindsay and Susan. How could any United States Senator talk to Gaddafi about helping to procure weapons for him? They’ve willfully attempted to aid a known enemy of the United States. It’s disgraceful and indefensible, so please Grampy; spare us your platitudes on how the President should have done things.

The Best Little (Health Insurance) Cat House in Washington

While 45,000 Americans die each year because they cannot afford health insurance, members of the United States Senate continue to prostitute themselves to the John’s of health insurance companies.

Just who are the “top” ten best little health insurance whores in Washington?

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA)

How much to get lucky with Chucky? $1,320,000

Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT)

Orrin will get you roarin for a mere $1,300,000

Sen. Richard Burr (R-SC)

Take Dick any which way you can for $1,200,000

Sen. John Ensign (R-NV)

Someone with Johnny’s sexually charged history can’t go for less than $1,100,000

Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME)

Susan will toot your horn for $760,000

Sen. Ben Nelson (D-NE)

“Bend” Nelson for $750,000

Sen, Judd Gregg (R-NH)

Judd will “do it” any way you want for $695,000

Sen. Pat Roberts (R-KS)

Roberts will “Pat” you up, down, and any other way for $690,000

Sen. Mike Enzi (R-WY)

For a fun time with Mike? $580,000.

Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.)

A roll in the political hay with Joe will cost you $573,000

No surprise of course that eight of the top ten are Republicans, but Nelson should be ashamed and Lieberman should just go away, as should Senate Majority Leader(?) Reid if he can’t get the Democratically controlled Senate to do the right thing. But, if 45,000 Americans would die without health coverage, no doubt those opposed to helping them would declare, “if they’re going to die, they had better do it and decrease the surplus population”.
