Newt Gingrich Discusses Potential Obama Impeachment?

The Huffington Post has reported that former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich has said President Obama has overstepped his constitutional authority with his recent decision to order his administration to stop defending the Defense of Marriage Act. While the move didn’t immediately open Obama up to impeachment, Gingrich claimed, it did raise his worry about a future constitutional crisis.

In an interview with Newsmax, Gingrich characterized the president’s latest announcement regarding DOMA, a law that allows states to not honor gay marriages, as “a dereliction of duty and a violation of his constitutional oath” that “cannot be allowed to stand.”

I’m sorry, but maybe someone whose committed adultery and been married three times shouldn’t be the spokesman for the Defense of Marriage Act.

On Wednesday, Attorney General Eric Holder said the President had determined his administration would no longer defend a law defining marriage as only between a man and a woman, but it would continue to be enforced pending an actual legislative overturn.

Michael Steel, a spokesman for Speaker John Boehner, said in an e-mail he questions why President Barack Obama “thinks now is the appropriate time to stir up a controversial issue that sharply divides the nation” when “most Americans want Washington to focus on creating jobs and cutting spending.”

Well Mr. Steele that objection might carry some actual weight if the GOTP hadn’t wasted its first 100 bills trying to limit federal funding of abortion instead of working on the jobs issue.

Gingrich said this plan of action was unacceptable.

So is committing adultery ex-Mr. Speaker. I guess marriage can be defined by the government, but it’s OK for you and half a dozen other hypocrites on the right to then violate your vows? Perhaps under DOMA the government should make adultery a crime and prosecute individuals like you?

“He swore an oath on the Bible to become president that he would uphold the Constitution and enforce the laws of the United States,” Gingrich said. “He is not a one-person Supreme Court. The idea that we now have the rule of Obama instead of the rule of law should frighten everybody.”

Newt, it’s time for you to come to grips with the fact that a black man, a liberal, is president and deal with it. Conservatives are always yelping about the federal budget; well, how much money is wasted prosecuting DOAM and Don’t Ask Don’t Tell? But those are OK expenditures I suppose? I suppose anything which upholds your southern view of morality is a justified expenditure? You’d have probably been screaming about the fugitive slave law not being prosecuted too.

“Imagine that Governor Palin had become president,” Gingrich said. “Imagine that she had announced that Roe versus Wade in her view was unconstitutional and therefore the United States government would no longer protect anyone’s right to have an abortion because she personally had decided it should be changed. The news media would have gone crazy. The New York Times would have demanded her impeachment.”

Well gee, yeah that would be a problem since its established Constitutional law. By the way, the Administration is making the same decision other administrations have made in the past concerning laws considered to be unconstitutional. And exactly, what is the basis used to determine marriage as being defined as a man and a woman? If it’s in any way defined by religious standards, than under the Constitution that is a violation of the separation of church and state, and hence the law would be unconstitutional.

Egypt is Obama’s Iran?

So, the latest right-wing gimmick is that Egypt is going to turn into President Obama’s Iran, alluding to the horrendous foreign policy disaster of the Carter Presidency.

Of course, this is just one more “this is Obama’s” in an ever lengthening list of “this is Obama’s” …

We’ve had “Obama’s Vietnam”, meaning of course the fact he had to get the country out of the mess Bush/Cheney got us all into. You remember? We invaded Afghanistan following the attack on 9-11, ostensibly to catch Osama Bin Laden. But the all seeing, all knowing, all wise Bush/Cheney duo decided it was best to sort of just put troops there, and leave them for six years holding the bag while they chased a squirrel into Iraq.

Then there was “Obama’s Waterloo”, multiple times, including Health Care and the BP Oil Spill.

And then we had “Obama’s Watergate”, which was the mythical Sestak scandal. This was the charge, which no doubt the GOP House will investigate, that the White House offered Sestak a job (a bribe according to right-wing talking bovines) not to run against SEN Specter in PA.

So, you’ll please pardon me while I yawn at the latest “this is Obama’s”, as in, Egypt being “Obama’s Iran”.

O’Donell Gives Coven Party’s Response to President’s SOTU Address?

The Huffington Post is reporting that former GOP Delaware Senate candidate Christine O’Donnell said she was “unimpressed” with President Obama’s State of the Union address, calling it “hypocritical” and accusing him of co-opting the Tea Party’s message of fiscal conservatism to push an agenda of bigger spending.

So, Christine, let me get this straight, you’re angry because the President is talking about cutting the deficit? And in so doing he is “co-opting the Tea Party’s message of fiscal conservatism”?

OK, well, for someone to “co-opt” your “message”, you have to have a message. Groups of angry, mostly old, white people screaming they want to “cut everything back to spending levels in 1789” isn’t much of a message.

Huffington reported that O’Donnell also said the speech was “hypocritical,” pointing to a number of the president’s goals, including his promise to eliminate wasteful programs while pushing for increased wireless internet access.

Interesting word choice of words for someone accused of illegally using campaign funds to buy dinner and pay rent. Hypocritical is probably not a word you should be using Christine, not unless you’re going to add, “And as someone who is a hypocrite, I know when I see someone else acting hypocritically”.

And how exactly is “pushing for increased wireless internet access” a “wasteful program”? I suppose you don’t have to worry about accessing the internet, but as the President outlined, there are thousands, if not tens of thousands, of rural Americans who do not have access, and by providing this service it will help farmers and ranchers access a previously untapped potential market. That’s what is known as “free enterprise”.

The Huffington article also related that O’Donnell seemed disappointed by the display of bipartisan unity shown by some members of Congress who decided to sit next to members of the other side of the aisle.

“I like when the Democrats sit on one side and the Republican sit on another,” O’Donnell said. “It’s supposed to be civil debate, you know, we’re not all supposed to braid each other’s hair and sing Kumbaya — not in Congress. Let’s have healthy debate and solve the country’s problems. I think something was missing last night with that whole prom date.”

Of course what she meant to say was, “Give me the good old days of Joe Wilson screaming angrily at the President, ‘YOU LIE!'”. Or, “I really like it when the members of the Congress beat each other up with canes and challenge each other to duels.”

Where have you been the past few weeks Christine? Was your coven on a retreat? Tucson? Congresswoman Giffords? Shooting? Sarah Palin’s lame excuse for why things like that happen?

What Ms. O’Donnell’s comments demonstrate is that like her mentor, Palin, she is uninformed, singularly obtuse in her opinions and not ready for the prime time.

Making a Difference in the Life of Our Nation?

“If you want to make a difference in the life of our nation; if you want to make a difference in the life of a child—become a teacher.” ~ President Barack Obama, State of the Union address 2011

OK, let’s get this out before Rush and the other conservative lemmings begin parroting each other like the sea gulls in “Finding Nemo”. When President Obama spoke last night during the State of the Union Address about people making a difference in the life of our nation by becoming teachers he wasn’t saying teachers should replace parents as the most important people in our children’s lives. And yes, I’m already hearing people “pointing out” how parents are more important, blaah, blaah, blaah …

First, some, it would seem, need to wake up to the fact that for far too many of our children in this country there are no adults who seem to give a flying fig what happens to them, and for many of them teachers fill that great big empty void.

And second, when was it ever bad for our children to have multiple good adult roll models in their lives?

President Obama More Conservative than Ronald Reagan?

Yes Virginia it’s true.

When confronted with the impossible solution of how to deal with millions of illegal aliens President Reagan waved his magic pen and pardoned them.

When confronted with the impossible solution of how to deal with millions of illegal aliens President Obama has put forward the Dream Act requiring children of illegal aliens to obtain a college degree or perform service to the country before being allowed to obtain citizenship.

Now, I ask you, who is more conservative?

Giving Credit Where Credit is Due

You know, you’re right Conservative America; President Obama should have given credit, where credit is due, to the Bush/Cheney Administration…

You guys did an awesome ginning up a non-existent WMD program…

You guys did an awesome job convincing your fellow Republicans that Saddam was tied to 9-11…

You guys did an awesome job taking your eye off the ball in Afghanistan, invading Iraq, and allowing Osama Bin Laden to escape…

You guys were absolutely epic in your execution of the war – it lasted nine long years, cost our country over $1 Trillion dollars, 4,416 American lives, and 100,000 plus Iraqi civilians dead, and tens of thousands of Americans wounded and torn…

Oh, and we should thank you for awesome job of torturing prisoners, running secret prisons in Eastern Europe and creating who knows how many terrorists …

And thanks for keeping America safe … 9-11 was an excellent example of your abilities…

Yeah, Conservative America is so right, President Obama should have given credit where credit was due…

President Obama’s a “man child”?

According to the Urban Dictionary, “A Man Child is a fully-grown male that acts like a baby. A Man Child usually whines, complains, and thinks everything is unfair. Man Children in the workplace can be recognized as one who is always complaining about the rules and/or shows too much emotion i.e., Crying.”

Lead or Get Out of the Way

OK, enough already!

President Obama and Senate Majority Leader Reid, lead or get out of the way!

Does Joe Lieberman have pictures of the two you playing golf with Satan?

What does it take for you to strip him of his committee chairmanship? His seniority in the Senate? His membership in the Democratic Caucus ? He needs to be called into an office and told to play ball or lose it all. He is not an advantage to either of you, to the Democratic majority or to his country.

45,000 Americans are dying every year because they can’t afford health care!

Let’s say that again.

45,000 AMERICANS ARE DYING EVERY YEAR BECAUSE THEY CAN’T AFFORD HEALTH CARE!

It’s time to lead.

Lead and take care of business or not only will you lose your political positions, but the blood of each and every American who dies will be on your hands.

Rush Urging a Coup? Sorry Rush No Detaining Today!

On November 25, 2009, GOP spokes mouth Rush Limbaugh expressed his hope that the Cadets at West Point would overthrow the duly elected government of the United States by taking President Obama hostage while he was there on December 1st to deliver his speech to the American people outlining his strategy for ending the war in Afghanistan.

Sorry Rush, the Cadets remained true to their oaths and didn’t start the coup you hoped for.

You see Rush, unlike yourself, Hannity, Beck, O’Reilly, etc, who never served in any of the United State’s armed forces, the Army Cadets of West Point have sworn an oath to protect and defend the constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic, and you don’t do that by starting a coup. Lucky for you we don’t live in the United States you claim we live in or you’d be in a gulag in North Dakota by now for speaking sedition. Thank God for the First Amendment, eh El Lushbo.

Duty? Honor? Country?

General Stanley A. McChrystal, USA, the current Commander, International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) and Commander, U.S. Forces Afghanistan (USFOR-A)  previously served as Commander, Joint Special Operations Command from 2003 to 2008, where he played an active role in the cover-up of the Pat Tillman friendly fire incident.

Corporal Tillman – Defensive Back for the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals – enlisted in the U.S. Army following the terrorist attack on 9-11-01. He was killed by friendly fire while serving as an Army Ranger in Afghanistan in 2004. Within a day of Tillman’s death, McChrystal was notified that Tillman was a victim of fratricide. Shortly thereafter, McChrystal was put in charge of paperwork to award Tillman a posthumous Silver Star for valor.

On April 28, 2004, six days after Tillman’s death, McChrystal approved a final draft of the Silver Star recommendation and submitted it to the acting Secretary of the Army, even though the medal recommendation deliberately omitted any mention of friendly fire, included the phrase “in the line of devastating enemy fire,” and was accompanied by fabricated witness statements.

On April 29, 2004, McChrystal sent an urgent memo warning White House speechwriters not to quote the medal recommendation in any statements they wrote for President Bush because it “might cause public embarrassment if the circumstances of Corporal Tillman’s death become public.” McChrystal was one of eight officers recommended for discipline by a subsequent Pentagon investigation but the Army declined to take action against him.

McChrystal also served as commander of what Newsweek termed “the most secretive force in the U.S. military,” where he maintained a very low profile until June 2006, when his forces were responsible for the death of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, leader of Al-Qaeda in Iraq. After McChrystal’s team successfully located Zarqawi and called in the air strike that killed him, McChrystal accompanied his men to the bombed-out hut to personally identify the body.

McChrystal’s Zarqawi unit, Task Force 6-26, became more well-known for its interrogation methods, particularly at Camp Nama, where it was accused of abusing detainees. After the Abu Ghraib torture and prisoner abuse scandal became public in April 2004, 34 members of McChrystal’s the task force were disciplined, but he was not.

Having deliberately taken part in falsifying an award, and in knowingly covering up the death of a U.S. soldier, plus having commanded a task force that abused detainees, how can anyone truly trust the man who is in charge of the United State’s war effort in Afghanistan?

Clearly we now live in a time when the words, duty, honor and country are merely that, words. Clearly the much publicized seven Army Values, values such as respect and integrity, in reality, have very little “value” to men such as Gen. McChrystal, even though one point of the Soldier’s Creed of the United State’s Army clearly states, “I serve the people of the United States and live the Army Values.”

According to the Army Values, “Integrity” means to “Do what’s right—legally and morally”.

“The American people rightly look to their military leaders not only to be skilled in the technical aspects of the profession of arms, but also to be men of integrity. People of integrity consistently act according to principles—not just what might work at the moment. People of integrity do the right thing not because it’s convenient or because they have no choice. They choose the right thing because their character permits no less.

“Conducting yourself with integrity has three parts: Separating what’s right from what’s wrong; always acting according to what you know to be right, even at personal cost; and saying openly that you’re acting on your understanding of right versus wrong.”

I’m finding it difficult to understand how anyone serving in today’s United State’s Army, much less as a General Officer can reconcile his part in lying and covering up the death of a soldier and the Army’s definition of integrity.

The Army Values define “Respect” that you “Treat people as they should be treated”.

“Army leaders honor everyone’s individual worth by treating all people with dignity and respect.”

“The leader who feels and gives the respect which is due to others cannot fail to inspire in them regard for himself.  While he who feels, and hence manifests, disrespect toward others, especially his subordinates, cannot fail to inspire hatred against himself.

“Respect for the individual forms the basis for the rule of law, the very essence of what makes America. In the Army, respect means recognizing and appreciating the inherent dignity and worth of all people. This value reminds you that your people are your greatest resource.”

Clearly the Army’s definition of “respect” is different for the man who commanded a task force known for abusing detainees.

I’m also finding it difficult to understand what value this General still has to his country. How is his appointment to lead the new surge in Afghanistan of any worth to our country’s efforts there? Clearly he is a man without integrity, without honor and who does not respect others. If he did so, he would have resigned rather than lie to Pat Tillman’s family and to his country.

President Obama was wrong in placing him in command. He should have asked for his resignation, as well as the resignation of any other leaders who have in any way likewise soiled the reputation of the Army or of the United States. There are other men and women in the Army who can command and who still believe in what our country and in what our military stand for.
