Latest 2012 Presidential Polls (04 Oct 11 Edition)

An ABC News/Wash Post poll conducted from 29 Sep 11 – 02 Oct 11 seems to confirm that the mighty mo of the Republican Tea Party (GOTP) nominating circus has indeed shifted back in Mittens Romney’s favor, and it seems that the Reverend Ricky Perry’s fortunes are definitely in the decline, while Herman “Pizza Man” Cain appears to be a contender – yeah, OK, whatever.

The current ABC News/Wash Post poll shows:

Romney 25; Perry 17; Cain 17; Newter Gingrich 9; Ronny Paul 9; Michele “Krazy” Bachmann 7; Ricky Santorum 2 and Jon “it’s lonely in the cellar” Huntsman 1 …

So, Mittens is decidedly once again in the lead, Perry is falling and “Herb” Cain (being the current “flavor of the week”) is ascending; Newt is hanging in the middle of the pack with Paul , while Huntsman plummets back to bottom dwelling mud sucker status, as Bachmann begins to flounder and Santorum just sits like moss on a rock.

No change to the last Iowa Caucus Poll – Rasmussen Reports dated 31 Aug 11 – Perry holds first place with 29; Bachmann moves to 18, Mitt 17; Paul 14; Cain 4, Santorum 4, Huntsman 3 and Gingrich 2…

And no change in the New Hampshire poll – Rasmussen Reports dated 21 Sep 11: Mittens 39; Rev Ricky 18; Paul 13; Huntsman 7; Krazy 5; Cain and Gingrich 4…

According to the ABC News/Wash Post poll if the general election were held today:

President Obama 46/Romney 48

President Obama 49/Perry 46

Unfortunately for everyone else in the GOTP race ABC News/Wash Post doesn’t care about your chances – including Cain …

President Obama /Paul

President Obama /Bachmann

President Obama / Palin

President Obama /Cain

President Obama /Gingrich

President Obama/Huntsman

President Obama /Santorum

Now, if the GOTP nomination circus – and the general election – had both ended today, Mittens would now be the GOTP candidate, and (although I find this hard to believe) he would have won by two (2) points over President Obama.

Need to remember that the likelihood of evangelicals voting for a Mormon is slim to none, so if Mittens wins the nomination a large section of the GOTP base will likely vote for someone else, or stay home, whereas the Democratic base will be fired up to keep Mr. Tarleck out of the White House – just saying …

President Obama is just like Hitler?

So, Hank Williams Jr., the country singer whose hit song “All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Monday Night” has served as the intro to “Monday Night Football” for 23 seasons, has been benched after having compared President Barack Obama to Adolf Hitler during a Monday morning appearance on “Fox and Friends.”

On FOX and Friends, why is this not surprising? Just perfect, another white redneck comparing America’s first Black President to Adolf Hitler

It seems, that during no doubt a very in depth political discussion with the brain trust of FOX’s morning crew, Hank began discussing the President’s golf outing with Republican Tea Party (GOTP) Speaker of the House John Boehner this past summer; Williams said it was a political mistake, on par with “Hitler playing golf with [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu.”

(Cue Tim Allen voice) “ar-rooo?” What kind of comparison is that? ESPN shouldn’t have benched him for making a Hitler reference; they should have benched him for making an obtuse one.

Of course the Hitler comparison wasn’t the only issue with the interview; Hank doesn’t seem very lucid throughout the segment, stumbling over his words and at one point declaring President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden to be “the Three Stooges.” Even Steve Doocy figured there was something amiss there when he pointed out, “That’s only two”.

But, because his on air appearance wasn’t enough, Williams released a statement later explaining he was “misunderstood.”

“Some of us have strong opinions and are often misunderstood. My analogy was extreme — but it was to make a point. I was simply trying to explain how stupid it seemed to me – how ludicrous that pairing was.

“They’re polar opposites and it made no sense. They don’t see eye-to-eye and never will. I have always respected the office of the President.”

No doubt his moonshine and beer soaked Brain Captain wanted to continue the conversation with something like, “I mean, it’s like Mary Ann and Ginger, what’s up with that?”

So, in today’s right wing uber-conservative world when you want to say, “Why would Boehner go golfing with the President, they’re polar opposites and it makes no sense; they don’t see eye-to-eye and never will;” you actually say, “The two of them playing golf together was a political mistake, on par with Hitler playing golf with [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu.”?

Of course after comparing the President to the most despised despot of the modern era it always helps to say, “I have always respected the office of the President.” But one can only imagine what the dangling unsaid finale to that sentence was, probably something like, “It’s just this boy I don’t respect.”

The Dixie Chicks were skewered for speaking out against the actions of Bush/Cheney, Hank should be similarly skewered; of course it doesn’t mean the end for this good old boy, he can always go on Hannity alongside Ted Nugent, or perform a set or two with Huckabee; FOX is always looking to headline this kind of performer.

Reverend Perry Defended Confederate Symbols?

The Associated Press is reporting that when the NAACP stepped up a campaign to remove the Confederate battle flag from statehouses and other government buildings across the South, it found an opponent in Republican Tea Party (GOTP) presidential contender Reverend Ricky Perry.

Wow, who’d have ever thunk it; Ricky Perry defending Confederate symbols. What’s the world coming to when a good old boy red neck evangelical Christian from Texas is defending Confederate symbols?

It seems Texas had a pair of bronze plaques with symbols of the Confederacy displayed in its state Supreme Court building. The Reverend, then lieutenant governor, said they should stay put, arguing that Texans “should never forget our history.”

And later, when he became Governor, he said on a number of occasions that Texas should secede from the Union.

Perry has repeatedly defended “state’s rights” and Texas’ legacy in the Civil War, however – as the AP points out – while defense of Confederate symbols and Southern institutions can still be good politics below the Mason-Dixon Line, the subject can appear in a different light when officials seek national office.

But this is not the only albatross hanging around the GOTP presidential hopefuls’ neck; last week he began taking fire for a rock outside the Texas hunting camp his family used to lease that had the name “Niggerhead” painted on it, and GOTP rival Herman Cain, the only black in the conservative race, says the rock symbolizes Perry’s insensitivity to race.

And just in time for this falls race, Texas will soon be deciding whether to allow specialty license plates featuring the Confederate flag as part of the commemoration of the Civil Wars sesquicentennial. The plates were requested by the Sons of Confederate Veterans, a nonprofit organization the Reverend has supported time and time again.

“The romanticism around the Old South,” said Hilary Shelton, director of the NAACP’s Washington Bureau. “It’s a view of history that ignores how racism became a tool to maintain a system of supremacy and dominance.”

Granvel Block, the Texas Division commander of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, said the organization appreciated Perry’s previous position on issues surrounding memorializing the Confederacy.

“I would give him high praise for saying it,” Block said. “Honoring your ancestors, it’s something that the Bible teaches.”

OK now, hold the phone; while the Bible may teach us to honor our ancestors, and certainly the courage of those who fought should be remembered, sometime the South is going to have to come to grips with the fact it lost the war, and that the war WAS about slavery. Claim states rights all you want, but it was about the rights of the individual states to decide on slavery’s fate; there is no other reason, if there hadn’t been slaves there wouldn’t have been a Civil War. It’s really that plain and simple, and the Confederate battle flag has become a symbol of racism, ignorance and even hate in this country.

Many groups – like the NAACP – have been pushing to have all symbols of the Confederacy removed from state and local buildings; and along those lines Perry wrote to the Sons of Confederate Veterans in March 2000 that, “although this is an emotional issue, I want you to know that I oppose efforts to remove Confederate monuments, plaques and memorials from public property.”

“I also believe that communities should decide whether statues or other memorials are appropriate for their community,” Perry wrote in the letter, one of several obtained by The Associated Press under a public information request. “I believe that Texans should remember the past and learn from it.”

He added, “We should never forget our history, but dwelling on the 19th century takes needed attention away from our future in the 21st century.”

Perry elaborated publically on the issue, saying, “I think you’ve got a slippery slope when you start saying we’re going to start taking down every plaque or monument.”

The floor of the Texas Capitol’s rotunda still bears the seal of the Confederacy, and statues on the grounds memorialize Lee and Confederate soldiers. But civil rights organizations consider the battle flag the most objectionable symbol.

Public officials in Texas, as well as in the other Southern states, are called upon periodically to honor Confederate causes because related organizations – such as the Sons of Confederate Veterans – observe its anniversaries.

In a 2005 letter, Ricky welcomed attendees of a benefit hosted by the Sons of Confederate Veterans. “By learning about the past,” he wrote, “we honor our ancestors’ memories and contributions, and appreciate the people and events that preceded the present.” Perry’s great-great-grandfather David H. Hamilton fought at Gettysburg with the First Texas Infantry.

Today, Block’s organization wants to use the Confederate flag license plate to raise money to pay for markers on Confederate soldiers’ graves. “I know that to some people it’s an issue,” he said. “But our purpose is to honor our ancestors and to educate the public on the true cause of the war.”

To educate the people on the true cause of the war; and what would that be Mr. Block? No doubt the “true cause” has nothing to do with slavery, but deals with “the War of Northern Aggression; and this is where people take issue with the battle flag because of the ignorance surrounding it. The “true cause” was slavery, there is no other cause. Additionally, the battle flag is a symbol of treason; there is nothing honorable about breaking your oath to protect and defend your country, or to raise arms against the democratically elected government.

The real issue is that Perry can’t run for the Presidency having said he’d secede, having used a hunting area with the name “Niggerhead” on the entrance, and having protected the use of Confederate symbols and not think there’s a problem. On the other hand, does any of this really surprise anyone?

More rats leave Bachmann’s presidential ship

According to the Associated Press (AP) Republican Tea Party (GOTP) presidential hopeful Michele “Krazy” Bachmann is losing more of her posse, including her pollster and senior adviser raising questions about the practicability of her White House bid and also about her campaign finances.

Reportedly, Pollster Ed Goeas will be leaving the campaign along with senior adviser Andy Parrish, Doug Sachtleben, a deputy press secretary, and Krazy’s scheduler, Kimberley Rubin.

It’s speculated these moves signal an effort to make every penny count in a dwindling campaign chest a mere three months ahead of the first Republican nominating contests.

Bachmann is so done – if you stuck her with a fork she’d shrivel up like the Crypt Keeper.

Cheney says Obama should apologize to Bush administration?

Only someone as twisted and convoluted as former Vice President Dick Cheney would think the President of the United States owes the George W. Bush administration an apology after taking out terrorist leader Anwar al-Awlaki.

And what would be Darth Obtuses’ logic behind such a bizarre statement? Well, it appears while appearing on CNN’s “State of the Union” Sunday, he said President Obama needs to apologize for his past criticism of how the Bush administration interrogated suspected terrorists.

The Obama administration “in effect had said that we had walked away from our ideals or taken policy contrary to our ideals when we had enhanced interrogation techniques,” the former vice president said. Al-Awlaki’s death indicates that members of the Obama administration “clearly have moved in the direction of taking robust action when they feel it’s justified,” Cheney said.

“You’d like an apology, it sounds like?” host Candy Crowley asked the former vice president.

“Well I would,” Cheney responded, “I think that would be a–not for me–but I think for the Bush administration.”

“I think it was a very good strike. I think it was justified,” Cheney added regarding the strike against al-Awlaki, CNN reports. But Cheney added, “I’m waiting for the administration to go back and correct something they said two years ago when they criticized us for ‘overreacting’ to the events of 9/11.”

Did Obtuses fall out of the idiot tree and hit every branch on the way to ground?

There is a world of difference on using a drone strike against a terrorist convoy and torturing a prisoner. One is an actual act of combat against a combatant; the other is the ploy of the international thug attempting to extract information.

Bush/Cheney committed acts in violation of international law when they authorized the use of torture against prisoners; President Obama acted decisively and took out a number of enemy combatants with one drone. When one is fighting a war – as in the war on terror – one uses bullets and bombs. The President doesn’t owe you – or Bush – anything; be grateful there weren’t investigations into your conduct and slink back under your rock.

Vacaville teacher bans ‘Bless you’?

The San Francisco Chronicle is reporting a teacher in Vacaville, CA has told his freshman students they can no longer say “bless you” or “God bless you” when another student sneezes. But, it’s nothing close to what the ever uber-conservative FOX PAC crowd has tried to turn it into.

It appears it all started when high school health teacher Steve Cuckovich disciplined his students at Will C. Wood High School last week for repeatedly disrupting class by responding to sneezes with an overenthusiastic chorus of “Bless you.”

After receiving the “blessing”, the sneezer would then thank each giver of the blessing individually, something that could take a couple of minutes depending on the size of the class, and something that could definitely be disruptive.

So, it isn’t a case of a teacher banning God from class, it’s a case of immature 13 and 14 year olds thinking they’re still in Middle School, and not understanding there’s a different level of expectation in high school; it’s a case of a bunch of punk kids who have been terrorizing classes for a couple of years finally meeting a teacher who wasn’t going to allow it.

Problem is Cuckovich started deducting points from the kid’s grades when they wouldn’t stop the disruptive behavior, and well, when you do something to affect a student’s grade you’re going to have to deal with their parents, and if the parents are crazed evangelical Christians you’re going to see the story on FOX before you hear anything through channels.

And, of course the poor picked on “Christian” students are going to tell Mommy and Daddy they have no idea why the mean anti-Christ teacher is banning “God bless you” or why he’s deducting points.

Having taught high school, I personally think the “disruptive” behavior would have ended if the teacher had just ignored it instead of making it a point of teacher/student struggle, but Cuckovich’s real mistake was making it grade related.

The parents, however, are also wrong for reacting the way they did without trying to find out what was going on; but once again, when you’re dealing with parents who are evangelical Christians, basically walking around with a huge religious chip on their shoulders waiting for someone to challenge their so-called Christianity, coupled with a teacher, who is no doubt in the parent’s FOX addled minds, a Godless liberal, being the one to knock the chip off, then you’re going to have fireworks.

The parents should be telling their kids to knock off the juvenile behavior, not rushing to FOX; and perhaps that’s how things would have occurred if Cuckovich had told the parents what was going on rather than playing into the kid’s behavior. Both sides have handled this badly, but it’s definitely not a case of “the state” stepping on “religion’s” toes.
