President Obama is just like Hitler?

So, Hank Williams Jr., the country singer whose hit song “All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Monday Night” has served as the intro to “Monday Night Football” for 23 seasons, has been benched after having compared President Barack Obama to Adolf Hitler during a Monday morning appearance on “Fox and Friends.”

On FOX and Friends, why is this not surprising? Just perfect, another white redneck comparing America’s first Black President to Adolf Hitler

It seems, that during no doubt a very in depth political discussion with the brain trust of FOX’s morning crew, Hank began discussing the President’s golf outing with Republican Tea Party (GOTP) Speaker of the House John Boehner this past summer; Williams said it was a political mistake, on par with “Hitler playing golf with [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu.”

(Cue Tim Allen voice) “ar-rooo?” What kind of comparison is that? ESPN shouldn’t have benched him for making a Hitler reference; they should have benched him for making an obtuse one.

Of course the Hitler comparison wasn’t the only issue with the interview; Hank doesn’t seem very lucid throughout the segment, stumbling over his words and at one point declaring President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden to be “the Three Stooges.” Even Steve Doocy figured there was something amiss there when he pointed out, “That’s only two”.

But, because his on air appearance wasn’t enough, Williams released a statement later explaining he was “misunderstood.”

“Some of us have strong opinions and are often misunderstood. My analogy was extreme — but it was to make a point. I was simply trying to explain how stupid it seemed to me – how ludicrous that pairing was.

“They’re polar opposites and it made no sense. They don’t see eye-to-eye and never will. I have always respected the office of the President.”

No doubt his moonshine and beer soaked Brain Captain wanted to continue the conversation with something like, “I mean, it’s like Mary Ann and Ginger, what’s up with that?”

So, in today’s right wing uber-conservative world when you want to say, “Why would Boehner go golfing with the President, they’re polar opposites and it makes no sense; they don’t see eye-to-eye and never will;” you actually say, “The two of them playing golf together was a political mistake, on par with Hitler playing golf with [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu.”?

Of course after comparing the President to the most despised despot of the modern era it always helps to say, “I have always respected the office of the President.” But one can only imagine what the dangling unsaid finale to that sentence was, probably something like, “It’s just this boy I don’t respect.”

The Dixie Chicks were skewered for speaking out against the actions of Bush/Cheney, Hank should be similarly skewered; of course it doesn’t mean the end for this good old boy, he can always go on Hannity alongside Ted Nugent, or perform a set or two with Huckabee; FOX is always looking to headline this kind of performer.

FOX PAC Declares “Banning Clergy” From 9-11 Anniversary Ceremony Is “A Victory for the Terrorists”?

FOX PAC has its collective knickers in a knot because NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg has decided that members of the clergy will not be included in 9-11 memorial ceremonies at ground zero. Problem for the uber-conservative talking bovines at FOX PAC is this isn’t a new policy; in fact it’s the exact same practice that has been in place for past memorials. Of course, when have facts ever mattered to the people at FOX PAC?

We can always count on the brain thrust of FOX PAC & Friends to lead the way into conservative hysteria – particularly in anything concerning 9-11 and Ground Zero, Steve Doocy started it off, “Meanwhile, religion has no place at ground zero. That’s because New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is banning the clergy from the September 11th, 10th anniversary ceremony. This comes as a surprise, especially since he recently defended plans to build that mosque near ground zero.”

Well gee, I guess Doocy caught Mayor Bloomberg in his Islamic conspiracy – is Doocy really this obtuse? I wonder if Doocy and his cohorts would support an Imam giving a prayer during the ceremony?

Doocy continued, “We’ve gotten a statement from the mayor’s office, and here’s how it reads. It says, ‘Religious leaders or others are free to hold such an event, the focus of this commemoration ceremony is on the family members of those who died.’ You know, I haven’t taken a poll of the audience, but I would imagine most of the people who lost somebody on September the 11th would be comforted by some words of prayer.”

Well, maybe, but again who offers the prayers, a Rabbi, or an Imam? Or would it have to be an evangelical minister?

FOX PAC The Five co-host Kimberly Guilfoyle told viewers it was a violation of religious freedom not to include religious leaders, “It’s very insensitive, it really is. And I think it violates your freedom of religion. And why would you do something like that with – it’s so important, and the clergy played such an important role. Why’s he doing it?”

Why’s he doing it? Because he doesn’t want it to become a Glenn Beckian style event with one minister after another parading across the stage offering religious rants against Islam most probably. And, oh, by-the-way, the Mayor of New York not inviting religious leaders to take part in a government sponsored event doesn’t violate anyone’s freedom of religion. It was interesting to note that when asked if she would support an Imam offering a prayer she said no.

Not to be out done, FOX PAC The Five co-host Monica Crowley also jumped on the band wagon, “The other point too, Kimberly, is that these terrorists acted in the name of their faith. So, if we strip faith out of these services completely and make it totally secular, then that’s a victory for the terrorists.”

Well, of course it isn’t a victory for the terrorists; does Monica not understand there were followers of Islam who were victims of the attacks too, including one young woman who was 7 months pregnant, and that there were also first responders who died that morning who were Muslim? Of course they do, but they don’t care, they’re still consumed with the rabid hate of the uber-conservatives concerning all things 9-11.

As was mentioned earlier, the Mayor’s decision isn’t an isolated incident; in fact the Wall Street Journal reported clergy have not participated in past ceremonies commemorating the attack.

The Wall Street Journal reported on 24 August 11, “Religious leaders are calling on Mayor Michael Bloomberg to reverse course and offer clergy a role in the ceremony commemorating the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center.

“City Hall officials, who are coordinating the ceremony, confirmed that spiritual leaders will not participate this year — just as has been the case during past events marking the anniversary. The mayor has said he wants the upcoming event to strike a similar tone as previous ceremonies.

“‘There are hundreds of important people that have offered to participate over the last nine years, but the focus remains on the families of the thousands who died on Sept. 11,’ said Evelyn Erskine, a mayoral spokeswoman.”

Perhaps the Mayor could have a chaplain from the NYFD give an invocation, and a chaplain from the NYPD give a benediction? And perhaps a Rabbi and an Imam could offer prayers in the middle of the service? After all this is supposed to be a memorial; problem is, once the religious Pandora’s box is opened, he won’t be able to close it, and then there will be cries of favoritism of one religion over another, and if he does invite an Imam the FOX PAC crowd will call for his lynching.

This is another case of uber-conservatives crying out against Islam and Sharia law while wanting to impose their Christian version of the same upon everyone else. Fact is this is not the first time religious leaders haven’t been invited, and FOX PAC knows this, wait for the other shoe to drop when FOX personalities blame the absence of religious leaders on President Obama so they revive the theory of him secretly being a closet Muslim.

Troops do not have a “right to defend themselves”?

During an appearance on Tuesday’s (29 Jun 10) Fox and Friends, God’s Self-proclaimed spokesman, Glenn Beck, suggested that the rules of engagement (ROE) in Afghanistan prevent American soldiers and marines from defending themselves, saying that American leaders (aka President Obama) should “take the shackles off our troops; they have a right to defend themselves.” Only problem with Bruder Beck’s suggestion is, well, current ROE states “that no one is ever denied the right to self-defense.”

Fox and Friends talking head Steve Doocy asked the Beckster what he wants GEN Petraeus to say, “You know, I’m going to start pulling things out in a year?”

Beck replied, “First of all — first of all, if our troops feel they’re in danger, shoot to kill. Take the shackles off our troops; they have a right to defend themselves. Enough with this little medal where — you know, it’s very interesting to me that the radicals who are now in charge from the 1960s who used to call our troops baby killers and really under George Bush did everything but call them baby killers, he was ‘General Betray-us.’ They give an award now for having restraint. That’s just a nice way of saying here’s a medal for not killing a baby. It’s the same thing. Take the handcuffs off and respect these people.”

Of course, the truth of the matter is that according to current rules, “no one is ever denied the right to self-defense”, in fact, the incoming commander, GEN David Petraeus, in a 17 Mar 10 congressional hearing (accessed via Nexis), testified that the directive emphasizing the protection of civilian lives “says that no one is ever denied the right to self-defense, nor will we ever hesitate, if someone is pinned down by fire, in responding to ensure that those troopers never feel as if they’re fighting with their hands tied behind their back.”

And in declassified portions of a revised “Tactical Directive” to the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan issued in July 2009, outgoing commander, GEN Stanley McChrystal wrote: “This directive does not prevent commanders from protecting the lives of their men and women as a matter of self-defense where it is determined no other options (specific options deleted due to operational safety) are available to effectively counter the threat.” McChrystal also wrote: “I recognize that the carefully controlled and disciplined employment of force entails risks to our troops — and we must work to mitigate that risk wherever possible. But excessive use of force resulting in an alienated population will produce far greater risks.”

At the stroke of midnight, Wednesday was just another day of making stuff up for Beck; and just another day of spreading falsehoods and half truths for Fox News.
