The Newt rides the seesaw on Libya no-fly zone

Newt Gingrich spent a lot of badly needed brain cells last week criticizing President Barack Obama for not imposing a no-fly zone over Libya. Now the former House Speaker is lashing out at the White House’s intervention, calling it as “badly run as any foreign operation in our lifetime.”

Really Newt, as “badly run as any foreign operation in our lifetime”? You can’t really be serious? I think Operation Iraqi Freedom will very probably go down as, if not the very worse, than one of the very worse foreign operations of not only our lifetime, but of all time. Second probably only to Xerxes’ decision to invade Greece in what we like to call “Operation Persian Folly”.

“The standard he has fallen back to, of humanitarian intervention, could apply to Sudan, to North Korea, to Zimbabwe to Syria this week to Yemen, to Bahrain,” the Newtered one said on the “Today” show Wednesday morning. “This isn’t a serious standard. This is a public relations conversation.”

As compared to, oh I don’t know? We’re invading Iraq because Saddam is a really, really bad guy, and he dresses funny, and therefore we’re going to take him out? Gee Newt, that thinking could have applied to any number of “bad guys” throughout the globe, like Kim Il-sung, Hu Jintao, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity or maybe even Glenn Beck. Talk about not having a serious standard on foreign policy decisions and U.S. military intervention. But wait, perhaps your standard would be more along the lines of such great successes as selling arms to the Contras? Or sending Marines into Lebanon? Or invading Somalia?

“I would not have intervened. I think there were a lot of other ways to affect Qaddafi. I think there are a lot of other allies in the region we could have worked with,” the Newtster added. “I would not have used American and European forces.”

Yeah, if Newt were President he’d have sent in the guys on camels from Egypt; or maybe he’d tell the rebels if they really loved their country they should grab a congressional aide and have a good old fashioned affair.

Newt seems just a tad bit conflicted these days, just last week, he said he would implement a no-fly zone “this evening.”

“We don’t need to have the United Nations,” he told FOX PAC. “All we have to say is that we think that slaughtering your own citizens is unacceptable and that we’re intervening.”

YEAH! YOU GO NEWT! YOU SHOW EM’ WHO’S BOSS! THAT’S TELLING EM’ BOY!

OK, I’m sorry Mr. Former – I had to resign because I didn’t have any morals and lost my party’s congressional majority – Speaker, with all due respect, did you fall out of the stupid tree and hit every branch on the way to the ground? Were you dropped – repeatedly – as a child? Yeah, your idea of a foreign policy intervention has no ramifications whatsoever. Did you even bother call President Bush before you stole his plan for the Middle East, or did you come up with this all on your own? This is another really good example, in an ever growing list of examples, as to why you’re in no way remotely qualified to be President. Now, really, just back away from the presidency and you won’t get hurt; don’t make me roll up a newspaper and hit you on the nose with it; just back away like a good boy.

Republicans claiming Libyan bombing is ‘unconstitutional’?

GOTP (Grand Old Tea Party) members of Congress are claiming the conflict in Libya is unconstitutional because President Barack Obama failed to ask, “Mother may I”? Strange how the same group – responsible for supporting George Bush’s misadventures in Afghanistan and Iraq – is now wanting a President to be responsible, or is it just because it’s President Obama?

The President actually sent a letter concerning the Libya intervention to members of Congress on Monday, well within the guidelines of the War Powers Act.

Not good enough according to the GOTP; which claims that under the U.S. Constitution Congressional approval is required for declarations of war. While that may be true, the United States has not acted militarily under a declaration of war since Franklin Roosevelt addressed the Congress on 8 December 1941. How many American soldiers, sailor, airmen and marines have been placed in harm’s way since then?

Where was the GOTP when Americans were sent off to fight George W’ Bush’s private little war in Iraq? You want an example of unconstitutional misuse of authority, there it was.

Congressman Roscoe Bartlett, yes he’s GOTP, was among members who argued that military action in Libya was unconstitutional. He told the Hill magazine: “The United States does not have a King’s army. President Obama’s unilateral choice to use US military force in Libya is an affront to our constitution.”

No Congressman, you’re an affront to our constitution, and to your office. On 13 March 2004, you were one of the “Congressional Co-Chairs” of a so-called “Host Committee” which provided access to the Dirkson Senate Office Building for a “Messiah” crowning of the Rev Sun Myung Moon, a piece of theatrics the New York Times compared to “an act of the Roman Emperor Caligula.” You also under-reported, according to the Frederick News-Post, property sales by over $1 million since 2004. But of course you defended this as a mere “oversight” and that you were only a “bit player” in the real estate transactions. But wait sir, you also, once again according to the Frederick News-Post, made $299,000 in unreported loans in order to sell your daughter’s home over which you had exercised a power of attorney. So, please, spare us all the “holier than thou” typical GOTP nonsense.

A survey by CNN/Opinion Poll conducted on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and published on Monday, recorded 50% approval for Obama’s handling of the crisis, with 41% disapproving, and support for a no-fly zone climbing from 56% to 70% over the last week.

Those numbers seem familiar? Oh yeah, just around 50% of voters elected the President, and 41% is about the number of individuals glued to FOX PAC and listening to Limbaugh, Hannity, et al … to this 41%, there is nothing this President can ever do that will meet with any level of approval.

Following Roscoe’s example was chief Congressional hypocrite Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, another devout member of the GOTP, who has called on the President to “clearly define for the American people what vital United States security interests he believes are currently at stake in Libya”.

Sometimes Congresswoman we – the United States – have a moral obligation to step into blood baths like what was occurring in Libya, that was “interest”. This tie we’re really part of a U.N. mission, not making it up as we go along, nor lying about why we’re involved. Wow, that’s quite different from the time when you voted to support an unlawful and unconstitutional pre-emptive war in 2002. What exactly were the “vital United States security interests … at stake” in Iraq Congresswoman? Oh yeah, there were none!

Rasmussen screws up another poll?

Latest poll numbers for the President show he’s doing a good job, except for one poll; anyone care to guess which polling group shows the exact polar opposite of five other major polling organizations? That’s right; it’s Rasmussen, the pollsters of FOX PAC!

Of polls conducted in the last week on the President’s approval:

Bloomberg = 51 approve – 43 disapprove

ABC/Washington Post = 51 approve – 45 disapprove

CNN = 50 approve – 47 disapprove

Gallup = 48 approve – 44 disapprove

Rasmussen = 42 approve – 56 disapprove

Come on guys, really? You’re going to be this transparent?

Of course, Rasmussen almost always polls significantly to the right of center. This means you can’t ever really trust Rasmussen’s polling numbers. And since Rasmussen is the exclusive poll of choice for FOX PAC, and FOX-type personalities, Rush, Hannity, O’Reilly et al, this means those viewers – or listeners – are being fed daily exactly the numbers they always want to hear; and it also means Rasmussen is never going to conduct legitimate polling because it’s never going to shoot the goose laying the golden eggs.

With the exception of the FOX PAC bought and paid for Rasmussen polling, which is so absurdly opposite everyone else numbers it’s laughable, President Obama is in very good shape midway through his first term, much better shape than Ronald Reagan was at the same midterm point when his numbers had fallen to around 40%. President Obama’s positive numbers are currently anywhere from 47% to 52%.

Sorry Rasmussen, sorry Rush, sorry FOX, perhaps you need to look at a broader demographic than polling mainly middle age to elderly, angry, white, male FOX PAC viewers.

Kansas State Representative Comes up with a Final Solution to Illegal Immigrants, Shoot Them Down Like Hogs?

Virgil Peck, a Kansas State Representative suggested yesterday during a House Appropriations Committee meeting that undocumented immigrants should be hunted down and shot, and yes he’s a Republican.

The Lawrence Journal World reports that during a debate on appropriations for controlling Kansas’ feral swine problem Peck suggested the problem could be handled by shooting them from helicopters.

But wait, there’s more, Peck continued his observation on shooting wild pigs – adding how he would solve the state’s illegal immigration problem too, “It looks like to me if shooting these immigrating feral hogs works, maybe we have found a [solution] to our illegal immigration problem.”

Of course Peck – in good old fashioned GOTP manner – has refused to acknowledge he might have spoken inappropriately, saying he was “just speaking like a southeast Kansas person” and that he expected no further controversy over his comment.

Is this yokel for real? He was speaking like a “southwest Kansas person”? So, by his comment we can assume people from southwest Kansas are racists?

Somos Republicanos, a national Hispanic Republican organization, has called for an apology saying, “We are sick and tired of the bigotry from state legislators who would rather advocate for violence and shooting people than to focus on reasonable solutions.  Hasn’t Mr. Peck learned from the mistakes of Sarah Palin when she put what appeared to be gun sight crosshairs over our Congresswoman, Gabby Gifford’s district?…In a time of extreme tension and occasional violence over illegal immigration, such as the slaughter of a Mexican-American family in Arizona including a nine-year old girl, allegedly by Minutemen, elected officials should refrain from the use of violent metaphors.”

Peck attempted to back pedal his way out by saying he was merely voicing the frustration his constituents feel about the lack of governmental response to illegal immigration.

So, when he said he was speaking as a “southwest Kansas person”, he was speaking as his constituents would speak? So, he was saying people from southwest Kansas were racists?

Of course, why should this surprise anyone? Kansas is, after all, the home of the Westboro Baptist Church, those fine upstanding Christian folks who protest military funerals claiming “God hates America” and he allows soldiers to be killed because “God hates faggots”.

Ah yes, the many faces of today’s Republican Party, the many faces of the conservative Midwest. Enjoy.

So, when are Republicans going to stop whining?

He’s the President, get over it.

Quit whining about taxes, you’re not paying anywhere near what your parents and grandparents were paying.

We’ll go for spending cuts when you stop protecting the top 2%.

9-11 was almost ten years ago, give American Muslims a break.

You failed to get Bin Laden and sent us into a hopeless war in Iraq, you gave up the right to whine about either national defense or foreign policy.

Stop screaming you want to “take the country back”. News flash, the majority of Americans don’t want to “go back” to any America you’d take them to.

Gingrich Says it was Love of Country Which Led to His Affair?

GOTP presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich has officially lost his mind. He has said it was his passion for his country that contributed to his marital infidelity.

Excuse me? OK, first, the word “love” should never be used in the same sentence with “marital infidelity,” and second, it wasn’t so-called love of country it was lust for your staffer. Let’s be clear about this Newt. And third, is this supposed to make anyone feel comfortable with you running for the presidency? How many staffers will need to be hired if you win to help you show how much you “love” your country?

“What I can tell you is that when I did things that were wrong, I wasn’t trapped in situation ethics, I was doing things that were wrong, and yet, I was doing them,” he said.

You know Newt, this is the interview that just keeps giving isn’t it?

“Forget about all this political stuff. As a person, I’ve had the opportunity to have a wonderful life, to find myself now, truly enjoying the depths of my life in ways that I never dreamed it was possible to have a life that was that nice,” Newt said.

Wow, it’s very gratifying for all of us to know that you’re having such a wonderful life Newt, thanks for sharing that with us. How’s that second wife doing, the one you divorced after cheating with mistress/wife #3? And how’s your first wife? You remember her Mr. Family Values? The one you were stabbing in the back during your affair with wife/mistress #2 while she was undergoing chemotherapy?

Just how stupid do you think Republicans are Newt? Not to mention the rest of us? You really think this kind of confession helps your chances of running for the White House? You can’t even admit it was your fault can you? Nope it wasn’t Newt’s fault everybody; it was his “love” of America that drove him into multiple woman’s bed

You can’t make this stuff up. This is the rank hypocrisy of the GOTP. You led the impeachment of President Clinton for having an affair, and for lying about it, while you were having an affair, lying about it, and then you blame it on your “love” of country? Please, really, just go away. You’re embarrassing yourself; you’re embarrassing your family; you’re embarrassing your party. But, you know what? At least you’re giving the late night comedy writers plenty of material.

Congressman Is Going to Examine Islam in the United States?

OK, so let me get this straight, nearly a decade after the 9-11 terrorist attacks Congressman Peter King, yes a far right Republican (GOTP) has decided what the House of Representatives really needs to spend time, and money, on is to conduct hearings on radical Islam in the U.S.

Why stir a pot that most Americans want to move on from?

Why stand and scream, “HEY! LISTEN TO ME! THERE ARE MUSLIMS HERE IN AMERICA AND WE NEED TO PERSECUTE THEM!”

Why hold hearings now? Because Mr. King is – in every sense of the Shakespearean annotation – an ass; as in a jackass; as in a dumb animal braying for everyone to pay attention to him, and because the GOTP is in charge of the House, and King (aka Skippy the talking jackass) now has the power to call attention to the issue as chairman of the Homeland Security Committee, that’s why.

Skippy has told The Associated Press that “radical Islam is a distinct threat that must be investigated regardless of whose sensibilities are offended”.

“You have a violent enemy from overseas which threatens us and which is recruiting people from a community living in our country. That’s … what this hearing’s going to be,” he brayed.

According to the AP, “in the past two years, authorities say there have been more terrorist plots uncovered or attacks foiled than during the final seven years of Bush’s presidency.

Gee, some would probably deduce it’s the result of better law enforcement – and by instances of Islamic community leaders helping the authorities. You see, that’s what happens when you stop torturing people, and suspending habeas corpus, they actually start helping you. They help you with viable, real intelligence, instead of telling you what they think you want to hear.

Unfortunately, when you up the ante and you start persecuting people for their religion you play right into the very hands of the people you’re claiming to be fighting.

On the bright side, House GOTP leaders don’t seem very excited about all this and it’s a pretty fair bet they don’t want anything this inflammatory distracting the country from more important matters, though exactly what those are with this group who can tell? Certainly not jobs; and probably not the economy, but more than likely important issues mean stopping abortion, and overturning the health care law, and reinstating Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, basically anything to do with anything the President is in favor of.

Now, “Radicalized Muslims” have been the centerpiece of at least a dozen congressional hearings on violent extremism since 9-11. The latest push, however, coming from Skippy, a far right wing GOTP type who has repeatedly brayed that America has too many mosques and that as many as 85 percent of Muslim leaders were not cooperating with authorities is unsettling. King is not looking for answers, he’s looking to make a name for himself, and to reignite Islamic phobia in the country. There is no other explanation. One has to wonder, “What’s next, a set of hearings on far left communists’ infiltrators in the State Department?”

Newt Gingrich Discusses Potential Obama Impeachment?

The Huffington Post has reported that former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich has said President Obama has overstepped his constitutional authority with his recent decision to order his administration to stop defending the Defense of Marriage Act. While the move didn’t immediately open Obama up to impeachment, Gingrich claimed, it did raise his worry about a future constitutional crisis.

In an interview with Newsmax, Gingrich characterized the president’s latest announcement regarding DOMA, a law that allows states to not honor gay marriages, as “a dereliction of duty and a violation of his constitutional oath” that “cannot be allowed to stand.”

I’m sorry, but maybe someone whose committed adultery and been married three times shouldn’t be the spokesman for the Defense of Marriage Act.

On Wednesday, Attorney General Eric Holder said the President had determined his administration would no longer defend a law defining marriage as only between a man and a woman, but it would continue to be enforced pending an actual legislative overturn.

Michael Steel, a spokesman for Speaker John Boehner, said in an e-mail he questions why President Barack Obama “thinks now is the appropriate time to stir up a controversial issue that sharply divides the nation” when “most Americans want Washington to focus on creating jobs and cutting spending.”

Well Mr. Steele that objection might carry some actual weight if the GOTP hadn’t wasted its first 100 bills trying to limit federal funding of abortion instead of working on the jobs issue.

Gingrich said this plan of action was unacceptable.

So is committing adultery ex-Mr. Speaker. I guess marriage can be defined by the government, but it’s OK for you and half a dozen other hypocrites on the right to then violate your vows? Perhaps under DOMA the government should make adultery a crime and prosecute individuals like you?

“He swore an oath on the Bible to become president that he would uphold the Constitution and enforce the laws of the United States,” Gingrich said. “He is not a one-person Supreme Court. The idea that we now have the rule of Obama instead of the rule of law should frighten everybody.”

Newt, it’s time for you to come to grips with the fact that a black man, a liberal, is president and deal with it. Conservatives are always yelping about the federal budget; well, how much money is wasted prosecuting DOAM and Don’t Ask Don’t Tell? But those are OK expenditures I suppose? I suppose anything which upholds your southern view of morality is a justified expenditure? You’d have probably been screaming about the fugitive slave law not being prosecuted too.

“Imagine that Governor Palin had become president,” Gingrich said. “Imagine that she had announced that Roe versus Wade in her view was unconstitutional and therefore the United States government would no longer protect anyone’s right to have an abortion because she personally had decided it should be changed. The news media would have gone crazy. The New York Times would have demanded her impeachment.”

Well gee, yeah that would be a problem since its established Constitutional law. By the way, the Administration is making the same decision other administrations have made in the past concerning laws considered to be unconstitutional. And exactly, what is the basis used to determine marriage as being defined as a man and a woman? If it’s in any way defined by religious standards, than under the Constitution that is a violation of the separation of church and state, and hence the law would be unconstitutional.

Huckabee Attacks Portman, Then Beats a Hasty Retreat?

Once again Mike Huckleberry opens mouth, inserts foot, and attempts to run away on one leg. During an interview with right wing conservative radio host Michael Medved, the former Arkansas governor, and quickly becoming non-potential 2012 presidential hopeful, slammed recent academy award winner Natalie Portman for supposedly “glamorizing unwed pregnancy.”

Portman is expecting her first child with her fiancé, Benjamin Millepied, a choreographer whom she met on the set of “Black Swan.” During her acceptance speech, Portman thanked Millepied for “the most wonderful gift,” their baby.

The FOX PAC talking face took issue with that statement, and the entire premise of her pregnancy, calling Portman’s pregnancy “troubling” and suggesting it might “glorify and glamorize” the idea of having children outside of marriage. He claimed, as only a southern white male right wing conservative Christian tool can, that most single mothers aren’t in the same position as Portman in terms of her lifestyle and resources.

“There aren’t really a lot of single moms out there who are making millions of dollars every year for being in a movie,” Huckabee said. “And I think it gives a distorted image … Most single moms are very poor, uneducated, can’t get a job, and if it weren’t for government assistance, their kids would be starving to death and never have health care. And that’s the story that we’re not seeing.”

Of course most single teenage moms aren’t the daughter of Alaska’s governor either, being able to have their baby on the state’s dime and all; but, Mr. Hucksabee never seemed to have a problem with that pregnancy.

The “reverend” continued his assault on Portman saying, “One of the things that’s troubling is that people see a Natalie Portman or some other Hollywood starlet who boasts of, ‘Hey look, you know, we’re having children, we’re not married, but we’re having these children, and they’re doing just fine.’ But there aren’t really a lot of single moms out there who are making millions of dollars every year for being in a movie. And I think it gives a distorted image that yes, not everybody hires nannies, and caretakers, and nurses. Most single moms are very poor, uneducated, can’t get a job, and if it weren’t for government assistance, their kids would be starving to death and never have health care. And that’s the story that we’re not seeing, and it’s unfortunate that we glorify and glamorize the idea of out of children wedlock,” Huckalee continued. “You know, right now, 75 percent of black kids in this country are born out of wedlock. 61 percent of Hispanic kids — across the board, 41 percent of all live births in America are out of wedlock births. And the cost of that is simply staggering.”

But wait people, this was all a big mistake! Just like he never meant to imply anything about President Obama’s citizenship by claiming he was raised in Kenya, Hucksbees is now defending his comments on Portman, insisting he wasn’t trying to “slam” or “attack” her.

“Natalie is an extraordinary actor, very deserving of her recent Oscar and I am glad she will marry her baby’s father,” he said. “My comments were about the statistical reality that most single moms are very poor, under-educated, can’t get a job, and if it weren’t for government assistance, their kids would be starving to death. That’s the story that we’re not seeing, and it’s unfortunate that society often glorifies and glamorizes the idea of having children out of wedlock.”

Yeah, that makes your “non-attack” on Portman ever so much better. Thanks for clarifying that you weren’t attacking her, just all those “other” unwed mothers.

Huckles said he was actually “glad” Portman was planning to marry Benjamin Millepied, the father of her child, and that his comments weren’t meant to be deprecating.

“However, contrary to what the Hollywood media reported, I did not ‘slam’ or ‘attack’ Natalie Portman, nor did I criticize the hardworking single mothers in our country,” he claimed.

Ah yes, of course, the self-righteous diet expert was in no way attacking those hardworking single moms who get pregnant, just those slovenly non-working moms of color; you know the ones. The ones Huckleberry said were birthing the “75 percent of black kids … born out of wedlock” and the “61 percent of Hispanic kids.”

Please governor, whatever you do, don’t shut your pie hole. Every time you open it you’re just making it clearer and clearer how you’ve no business thinking you’d ever be a good fit in the Oval Office, and you’re continually giving us all a clear look into the hypocrisy which is the GOTP. No doubt you will always unflinchingly attack the “liberal” Hollywood hoes for being unwed mothers, while always giving the good right wing unwed mothers, like Bristol Palin, a pass.  It makes you wonder though how Huckabee would’ve treated a pregnant unwed, unemployed, betrothed mother from Galilee doesn’t it?

The Newt prepares for likely White House bid?

Newt Gingrich is preparing to launch his bid for the GOTP nomination in 2012; the problem? Well? He’s the Newt.

Gingrich, who is a twice-divorced former U.S. House speaker, who has admitted an affair with a former congressional aide, who is now his third wife; whose career in Congress is remembered as much for his dramatic fall — two federal government shutdowns, his censure and the loss of Republican seats in the House — as his rise, and whose polarizing style quite frequently leaves voters not just cold, but ice cold, has a problem.

What’s the problem you ask? He appears – as do many Republican leaders – to lack a moral compass, even though he claims to be a god-fearing Christian, and to support the far right conservative mantra of “family values”, and that’s going to be very problematic as he runs for the office he once tried to remove President Clinton from for doing exactly what he was doing, cheating on his wife.

While President Clinton’s affair was bad enough, Newt’s was not just an affair; it was an affair while leading the effort to impeach a President, for well, having an affair. But whereas President Clinton’s affair was seen as a slight at the American people, having had a sexual encounter with an intern in the Oval Office, Newt’s affair is much more nefarious, having occurred while his wife was fighting for her life in a battle with cancer. Same sort of “honoring” of marriage vows which sank former Democratic Presidential aspirant John Edwards.

The biggest obstacle in his way, the biggest issue – or problem – with his affair is going to be the fringe of the GOTP – the self-righteous, white bread, Christian Tea Party folks – who any Vegas bookie will tell you probably are not going to be willing to overlook adultery any time soon. After all, adultery is not just some little sin. It’s not just an indiscretion. It’s a pretty big deal.

For those who think the likelihood of Newt’s past following him into any run for the White House is little to non-existent, look no further than last week, when during a speech at the University of Pennsylvania a student confronted him about the affair.

“I’ve had a life which, on occasion, has had problems,” Gingrich replied. “I believe in a forgiving God, and the American people will have to decide whether that’s their primary concern.”

I’m quite certain the voters will decide Newter. They will decide not just loudly but also clearly. Don’t think so? Well listen to this quote.

“Newt Gingrich’s election would send a terrible signal to anyone who’s working to live a morally upright life,” said Jerry Luquire, head of the Georgia Christian Coalition. “I would find it very hard to vote for him.”

That’s not just any voter Mr. Speaker, that’s a right wing Christian from your own state. From your own state Newty!

But, let’s not be too hasty turning Newt over to the voters, first he’ll have to survive the primary process against his fellow GOTP rivals. Huckleberry isn’t about to pass up an opportunity to skewer him with his past sins, and we already know how Queen Sarah feels about him, not to mention Mitt, and whomever else thinks now is the ideal time to run.

Political fact is, Newt’s political career was over when he resigned as Speaker under a cloud of scandal and failure; it’s time to fade away Newt, time to fade away. Oh, and please, don’t talk about family values, Americans – as a whole – will only support hypocrisy just so far, and you crossed that line a long time ago.
