Drone Strike to Kill U.S. Citizen on American Soil Legal?

Holy time warp Batman, according to news reports the United States Attorney General thinks it could use military force to kill an American on U.S. soil in an “extraordinary circumstance”; no we’re not talking about George W. Bush’s administration here, we’re talking about President Barrack Obama’s, but fortunately it has “no intention of doing so,” at least according to a letter from General Eric Holder.

predator-firing-missile4

The letter was disclosed by Republican Tea Party (GOTP) Senator Rand Paul, who had asked whether the Justice Department believed the President had legal authority to order a targeted strike against an American citizen located within the United States.

According to Holder, while the President rejected the use of military force where “well-established law enforcement authorities in this country provide the best means for incapacitating a terrorist threat.” Theoretically, it’d be legal for the him to order such an attack under certain circumstances, he claimed.

“The question you have posed is therefore entirely hypothetical, unlikely to occur, and one we hope no president will ever have to confront. It is possible, I suppose, to imagine an extraordinary circumstance in which it would be necessary and appropriate under the Constitution and applicable laws of the United States for the President to authorize the military to use lethal force within the territory of the United States,” Holder wrote.

“For example, the president could conceivably have no choice but to authorize the military to use such force if necessary to protect the homeland in the circumstances like a catastrophic attack like the ones suffered on December 7, 1941, and September 11, 2001,” Holder continued, referring to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon. Holder said he would “examine the particular facts and circumstances” if such an emergency were to arise.

On this issue the Attorney General needs his head thoroughly examined; there are no legitimate uses of drone strikes within the United States on its own citizen’s, period. There is no “theoretical” for which this would ever apply, period. Would the Attorney General also “theorize” there are legitimate times when the President would authorize the use of nuclear weapons by the government on American soil against its own?

Just as the Bush Administration was wrong on everything from failing to protect the United States against terrorists, to lying about WMDs in Iraq to approving water boarding and torturing of prisoners, so too is the Obama Administration wrong on this. Fix it Mr. President; if we’d wanted more of the same we’d have elected the other guy.

2008 GOTP 2008 Presidential footnote claiming there’s a ‘massive cover-up’ on Benghazi?

There comes a time when some individuals should, as Douglas MacArthur once famously said, “fade away”. Clearly, it’s past time for the 2008 GOTP Presidential footnote, Senator John McCain. This past weekend, while a guest on Meet the Press, discussing his party’s ongoing misuse of the filibuster and how contentious the confirmation hearings for defense secretary nominee Chuck Hagel had become, McCain became belligerent and it seems, began to speak without his brain being fully engaged; his stinging defeat to President Obama clearly shaping his need for revenge at all cost.

John McCain

When asked about the contentious hearings McCain began to lambast the host seeming to say the Senate hearings had become so bad due to the lack of information from the White House surrounding the Sept. 11, 2012 attacks in Benghazi as a “massive cover-up.”

“There are so many answers we don’t know,” McCain claimed. “We’ve had two movies about getting bin Laden and we don’t even know who the people were who were evacuated from the consulate the day after the [Benghazi] attack. So there are many, many questions. So we’ve had a massive cover-up on the part of the administration.”

Host David Gregory tried unsuccessfully to get McCain to clarify what he meant by “a massive cover-up.”

To which McCain then started almost shouting, “I’m asking you, do you care whether four Americans died? And shouldn’t people be held accountable for the fact that four Americans died?”

“Well, what you said was the cover-up–a cover-up of what?” Gregory asked.

“Of the information concerning the deaths of four brave Americans,” McCain replied. “The information has not been forthcoming. You obviously believe that it has. I know that it hasn’t. And I’ll be glad to send you a list of the questions that have not been answered, including ‘What did the president do and who did he talk to the night of the attack on Benghazi?'”

McCain continued: “Why did the president for two weeks, for two weeks during the heat of the campaign continue to say he didn’t know whether it was a terrorist attack or not? Is it because it interfered with the line ‘Al Qaeda has [been] decimated’? And ‘everything’s fine in that in that part of the world’? Maybe. We don’t know. But we need the answers. Then we’ll reach conclusions. But we have not received the answers. And that’s a fact.”

McCain never answered any of the questions put to him, he seemed to be the grandfather at Thanksgiving dinner rambling from one topic to the next, unable to ever coherently clarify what he’s talking about, just speaking louder and angrier the more you try to comprehend where he’s going.

There is no cover up on Benghazi, there have been countless hearings and reportedly more than 10,000 pages of testimony given; plainly, as stated earlier, it’s past time for the Senator to begin fading away before he begins screaming, “Ahh, but the strawberries that’s… that’s where I had them. They laughed at me and made jokes but I proved beyond the shadow of a doubt and with… geometric logic… that a duplicate key to the wardroom icebox DID exist, and I’d have produced that key if they hadn’t of pulled the Caine out of action. I, I, I know now they were only trying to protect some fellow officers…”

It’s one thing to serve the people; it’s another to continue appearing as a petulant loser who’s coming unglued, incapable of moving on.

NRA’s LaPierre’s claiming the President’s ‘Trying To Take Away’ Americans’ Guns?

According to his appearance, and subsequent spanking, on “FOX News Sunday”, Wayne LaPierre, executive vice president of the National Rifle Association (NRA) is accusing the President of the United States of wanting a universal gun registry, “trying to take away” guns and believing his children deserve security while others do not. The spanking then ensued at the hands of host Chris Wallace.

wayne-lepierre

Wallace begin LaPierre’s comeuppance by asking the NRA “spokes head” to explain – if he could – the NRA’s video accusing President Barack Obama of wanting armed Secret Service Agents for his own children but allegedly opposing armed security for others. Wallace was quick to point out the President’s children face a larger threat than most – if gee, I don’t know? All other American children?

“Tell that to the people at Newtown,” LaPierre brazenly replied attempting to deflect the fact the so-called “right” for private citizens to own the XM-15 assault rifle used in the monstrous massacre of 20 first graders is being protected by his organization.

“Do you really think that the president’s children are the same kind of target as every schoolchild in America?” Wallace asked. “It’s ridiculous, and you know it, sir.”

LaPierre wasn’t able to defend his asinine argument so he attempted to change the subject by claiming while there could be more severe law enforcement against gangs, measures such as regulating certain semi-automatic weapons would have dire consequences. Just one problem Mssr LaPierre, gangs weren’t responsible for any of the mass shootings using assault rifles in America.

“If you limit the American public’s access to semi-automatic technology, you limit their ability to survive,” he weakly mewed. Because we’re likely to be invaded any minute by North Koreans, or perhaps you were referring to the conspiracy theory threat of the federal government coming to throw its citizens into secret prisons?

LaPierre also attempted to prophesy a universal gun registry’s next; a measure, Wallace reminded him, has not been proposed.

“Forgive me, sir, but you take something that is here and you say it’s going to go all the way over there,” Wallace said. “There’s no indication — I mean, I can understand your saying that’s the threat, but there’s nothing that anyone in the administration has said that indicates they’re going to have a universal registry.”

LaPierre’s falling back on the same old tried and true method of the uber-right, fear monger. You don’t need to tell the truth, you don’t need facts on your side, just fear monger. He’s a liar, and sooner or later the majority of Americans, members of the NRA, and hopefully the members of Congress will call him on it; hopefully before anymore of our children are lost.

Hannity’s a liar and an idiot

The Leprechaun, Sean Hannity’s at it again, telling one big whopper after another. Tonight’s lie came during his FOX News program (9 Jan 13) when he claimed no president had ever made use of recess appointments until President Obama, I just heard him say it, you can’t make this stuff up; but of course almost every President since – and including – George Washington have made recess appointments.

sean-hannity_FeaturedEffects_4

President Washington appointed South Carolina judge John Rutledge as Chief Justice of the United States during a congressional recess in 1795.

Some additional examples?

New Jersey judge William J. Brennan was appointed to the Supreme Court by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1956 through a recess appointment. This was done in part with an eye on the presidential campaign that year; Eisenhower was running for reelection, and his advisors thought it would be politically advantageous to place a northeastern Catholic on the court. Brennan was promptly confirmed when the Senate came back into session. President Eisenhower, also using a recess appointment, designated Charles W. Yost as United States ambassador to Syria. But wait, that’s not all President Eisenhower made two additional recess appointments, Chief Justice Earl Warren and Potter Stewart.

President George H. W. Bush appointed Lawrence Eagleburger Secretary of State during a recess in 1992 because Eagleburger had in effect filled that role after James Baker resigned.

And according to the Congressional Research Service, President Bill Clinton made 139 recess appointments while President George W. Bush made a record 171 recess appointments, and as of 5 Jan 12, President Barack Obama – who Hannity claims is attempting to “by-pass the Legislative Branch creating an imperial presidency” – had made only 32 recess appointments.

Hannity’s an idiot, and anyone who ever takes him seriously is also an idiot. Like too many people working at FOX he wouldn’t know a fact if it came and bit him on the nose.

Benghazigate? Really?

90,000 Americans die each year in hospitals due to medical error or lethal infection – one every six minutes

54,500 Americans die each year from accidents in the home – one every 10 minutes

46,800 Americans die each year from motor vehicle accident – one every 11 minutes

40,000 Americans die each year from accidental poisoning – one every 13 minutes

22,600 Americans die every year from falls – one every 23 minutes

18,300 Americans are murdered each year – one every 29 minutes

10,300 Americans die each year in drunk driving accidents – one every 28 minutes

3,400 Americans die each year from drowning – nine every day

4 Americans killed by terrorists in Libya warrants a Congressional investigation?

The Republican Tea Party (GOTP) has determined since it can’t beat the President in an election it’ll impeach him and drive him out of office. Presumably the new impeachable offense is the terrorist attack against our Consulate in Benghazi, Libya. Of course the biggest problem with this latest nefarious plan in a long list of nefarious plans by the uber-right is first, the President would have to commit a crime, and second while the House may impeach a President, it’s the United States Senate which would actually try him and which has the power to thus remove him from office. Good luck with that plan.

It’s time for the GOTP to quit whining, grow up and get down to business fixing the nation’s economy and getting Americans back to work.

Palin accuses President of ‘Shuck and Jive’?

Republican Tea Party (GOTP) has been Sarah Palin is criticizing President Obama for his handling of the Benghazi attack posting a Facebook message attacking him for his “shuck and jive,” a phrase with obvious racial connotations to anyone with half a brain.

Palin’s Facebook post, entitled “Obama’s Shuck and Jive Ends With Benghazi Lies,” loosely discussed – as only Palin can – recently released emails disclosing more details on the Benghazi, Libya, attack.

“Why the lies? Why the cover up?” she mews. “Why the dissembling about the cause of the murder of our ambassador on the anniversary of the worst terrorist attacks on American soil? We deserve answers to this. President Obama’s shuck and jive shtick with these Benghazi lies must end.”

Of course the phrase, “shuck and jive” caught more attention than Palin’s pathetic message, and it didn’t take long for Twitter to blow up with criticism over her choice of words.

Washington Post reporter Erik Wemple said the etymology of the phrase, via the Online Etymology Dictionary: “[B]lack slaves sang and shouted gleefully during corn-shucking season, and this behavior, along with lying and teasing, became a part of the protective and evasive behavior normally adopted towards white people in ‘traditional’ race relations.”

Palin’s current stick appears to be insulting the President on a semi-regular basis, telling him last month to grow a “big stick”, but she’s also accused her critics of committing a “blood libel,” last January.

Palin’s an idiot. She’s not particularly bright and her political bona fides are next to nonexistent since she’s never completed a single elected term of office. She was a joke as mayor, a joke as governor and a joke as a vice presidential nominee, but she’s even more of a joke as so-called political pundit – it’s time for her to go away.

Libya attack never would’ve happened under Romney?

An alleged aid to Republican Tea Party (GOTP) presidential footnote Willard Mitt Romney’s claiming the deadly attack on the U.S. consulate in Libya would never have happened if Romney were president, and there also wouldn’t have been anti-American protests in the Middle East if Romney were in charge.

“There’s a pretty compelling story that if you had a President Romney, you’d be in a different situation,” Romney “toady” Richard Williamson told the Washington Post. “For the first time since Jimmy Carter, we’ve had an American ambassador assassinated.”

Reportedly, Williamson blamed the recent attacks on President Obama’s handling of the region, proclaiming the Muslim world would never have done anything like this because it would have held the hypothetical Romney administration of 2008-2012 in much greater esteem, which would have prevented violent protests over an anti-Muslim film like the one that led to Stevens’s death.

“In Egypt and Libya and Yemen, again demonstrations — the respect for America has gone down, there’s not a sense of American resolve and we can’t even protect sovereign American property,” he said.

So, let me get this straight, under conservative Republicans this sort of thing wouldn’t happen because Republican Presidents have so much more resolve than Democratic ones? Ah, then that would explain the death of the U.S. ambassador to Lebanon, Francis E. Meloy Jr. who was kidnapped by a Palestinian separatist group and shot along with U.S. economic counselor Robert O. Waring as both diplomats headed to present their credentials to the new Lebanese president in 1976 – during the term of Republican President Gerald Ford.

And how did that famous resolve not prevent the death of U.S. ambassador to Cyprus under the Ford administration, Rodger P. Davies who was killed by sniper fire during a demonstration against American policy by Greek Cypriots at the embassy in Nicosia on Aug. 19, 1974?

And if this “resolve” was so respected and feared how did it fail to thwart the death of the U.S. ambassador to Sudan for the Nixon administration, Cleo A. Noel, Jr., who was killed in 1973 after members of a faction of the PLO, the Palestinian Liberation Organization, specifically called ‘Black September,’ stormed the Saudi embassy in Khartoum during a party for Noel’s outgoing deputy.

And if the Arab world’s kept in check by this so-called Republican “resolve” then what in the name of Richard Millhouse Nixon happened on the morning of September 11, 2001?

Williamson’s a career crony who last served as an official under – I’ll give you three guesses but you won’t need the first two – President George W. Bush. Of course this political hack also failed to mention the numerous deadly attacks on diplomatic compounds in countries like Pakistan, Yemen and Syria which the famous republican resolve also unsuccessfully stopped during the eight disastrous years of the Bush administration.

The President’s campaign press secretary Ben LaBolt condemned Williamson’s comments, “It is astonishing that the Romney campaign continues to shamelessly politicize a sensitive international situation,” he said” The fact is that any president of either party is going to be confronted by crises while in office, and Gov. Romney continues to demonstrate that he is not at all prepared to manage them.”

Amen and amen Mr. LaBolt; but it’s not just Romney who’s not at all prepared it’s also clearly his so-called foreign policy advisors who aren’t at all prepared. Collectively they’re a comedy of errors, and America can’t afford to elect someone whose staff meetings must be accompanied by circus calliope music.

Maybe Al-Qaeda “Gave Up” Bin Laden To Make Obama “Look Good”?

Right wing talk radio buffoon Rush “Rusty” Hudson Limbaugh III has decided there’s a reason for why President Obama was able to order Navy Seals into Pakistan to kill Osama Bin Laden; he was able to get Bin Laden, because as Rusty puts it, “What if Ayman al-Zawahiri and other Al Qaeda leaders gave up Osama bin Laden for the express purpose of making Obama look good?”

Limbaugh claims his theory has legitimacy because Bin Laden was no longer a key player in Al Qaeda when he was killed, and that the group wanted Obama to remain in power so that it could have a better chance of seeing Israel destroyed, since the president is supposedly so hostile towards Israel.

“Do you think that militant Islamists will be as hopeful of getting rid of Israel with a Republican president or with a Democrat president?” he asked his listeners.

Once again Rusty’s trying to play on the conservative talking point that the President’s somehow weakened Israel, never mind all evidence to the contrary, such as providing Israel with 55 bunker-buster 5,000 pound bombs putting it in the perfect position to take out Iran’s buried nuclear facilities; or that while under the Bush administration aid to Israel steadily declined to $2,424,000,000 and that under President Obama aid to Israel’s on the rise once again with $2,550,000,000 given in 2009 and $2,770,000,000 given in 2010 with continued increase expected through FY 12.

Limbaugh’s proven once again that he’s not only a dolt, but the king of the dolts, making comments which are so far off the norm that only his obtuse audience would believe them. It’s another sign of just how desperate the right is and, that like their candidate, they’re willing to throw everything out there no matter how wild or untrue in an effort to defeat the President. As I said, Limbaugh’s a dolt.

Allen West Blames President Obama For Libya Attack?

Republican Tea Party (GOTP) Congressman Allen West (aka Walter E. Kurtz), the former Army officer forced to “retire” after discharging his side arm next to the head of a prisoner he’d just told he was going to kill, has jumped into the fray over attacks on U.S. diplomatic posts in Libya and Egypt blaming President Obama.

Mobs rioting in Egypt and Libya, allegedly outraged by an anti-Islam film promoted by Quran-burning preacher Terry Jones fired rocket-propelled grenades in Libya at the U.S. Consulate, killing four Americans, including Ambassador Christopher Stevens.

Kurtz (West), who’s fighting for his Congressional seat in a tight race against Democratic challenger Patrick Murphy, is doubling down saying it was the Obama administration’s support for the Arab Spring uprisings that encouraged the attacks by “intolerant, barbaric, radical Muslims.”

“Americans need to question whether the deaths of these innocent patriots could have been avoided,” West claimed in a statement. “The Obama Administration touted the Arab Spring as an awakening of freedom, which we now see is a nightmare of Islamism.” West then repeated the already debunked lie that U.S. Embassy officials in Cairo “apologized” for the inflammatory film.

“President Obama’s policy of appeasement towards the Islamic world has manifested itself into a specter of unconscionable hatred,” West said, declaring the current events ranked with the Iranian hostage crisis, in which 52 Americans were held for 444 days in Tehran, starting in late 1979.

“President Obama has clearly surpassed former President Jimmy Carter and his actions during the Iranian Embassy crisis, as the weakest and most ineffective person to ever occupy the White House,” he said, of course failing to mention how under the President’s watch Osama bin Laden was killed along with scores of other top Al Qaeda and Taliban leaders – the ones the Bush Administration seemed either unable or unwilling to find.

West is soon to be a foot note in political history as a one term congressman who’s outlandish claims have included that the Democratic Caucus in Congress was filled with communists. He’s trying to score points out of desperation, and his latest crazed comments are proving once more how in the end, just as he was unfit to wear his country’s uniform any longer, he’s unfit to serve in the United States Congress.
