Payroll tax extender bill unvieled?

Senate Democrats have stepped up and released a bill to extend and expand on the payroll tax cut that would otherwise expire at the end of this year.

The Middle Class Tax Cut act, S. 1917, would cut the employee and employer payroll tax to 3.1 percent, half of the 6.2 percent tax they would normally face. The bill applies this cut to the first $5 million in payroll for companies, which Senate Democrats estimate will cut payroll taxes in half for 98 percent of U.S. companies with payroll below that cap.

The bill also includes a “surtax on millionaires,” which applies a 3.25 percent tax on modified adjusted gross income over $1 million or $500,000 for a married individual filing separately. This tax would take effect in 2013.

Sen. Bob Casey Jr. (D-Pa.) is the chief sponsor of the bill, which is also co-sponsored by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and Sens. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio), Robert Menendez (D-N.J.), Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.).

Democratic leaders said they’d look to take up the tax bill soon, but had not scheduled any votes on the bill as of Monday night.

While the Republican Tea Party (GOTP) do-nothing House has wasted an entire year with grandstanding tactics like reading the Constitution, validating that our nation’s motto is “In God We Trust”, and introducing more than 100 bills aimed at limiting abortion; the Democratic Senate has introduced a bill aimed at helping Americans during a recession, cutting taxes to those of us who need them cut, and raising taxes on those who can easily afford an increase and who’ve benefited far too long on everyone else’s backs; it doesn’t bode well for a GOTP that ran on “jobs” and which has produced zero.

Mittens mews back?

"I firmly support a woman's right to decide!"

According to the Associated Press (AP), Republican Tea Party (GOTP) perpetual presidential bridesmaid Mittens Romney is fighting back against a Democratic National Committee (DNC) commercial that portrays him as a flip-flopper; it’s the first time Mittens has mewed about what many see as his biggest political liability.

The Romney camp threw together a hasty defense, arranging for supporters to hold conference calls with reporters in an attempt to combat the ad which highlights Mitten’s changed positions on abortion, immigration, guns and other issues.

"I firmly support overturning Roe v Wade"!

But Mittens isn’t just getting bashed by the DNC, fellow GOTP candidate Newton “Stay Puffed” Gingrich, who just won an important endorsement in New Hampshire, told a South Carolina radio audience “it’s wrong to go around and adopt radically different positions based on your need of any one election.” Finally, a GOTP contender is attacking his primary opponents!

Unlike Mitten’s recent ad where he took a remark the President made in 2008 quoting his opponent John McCain and editing it to sound as though it were today and the President was referring to himself, the DNC ad simply takes statements Romney has made and then flipped on.

"I'm an Independent who never supported Reagan/Bush!"

If nothing else, the urgency of Mittens campaign’s reaction to the Democratic ad suggested he sees the flip-flop accusations as serious, and a wound that could prove mortal to his aspirations to be president.

The DNC launched its multi-state attack, portraying Romney as a politician in conflict with himself. The TV ad’s airing in the battleground states of North Carolina, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Wisconsin and New Mexico. Democrats also held events in Iowa, Florida, Michigan, Maryland and Massachusetts calling attention to a longer and more detailed version of the criticisms on the website mittvmitt.com.

"No wait, I'm a Republican who thinks Ronald Reagan is the most awesomest thing ever!"

The video calls Romney “an unparalleled flip-flopper.” It shows two late-night comedians mocking his sincerity and three Fox News reporters seeming to question Romney’s authenticity.

Meanwhile back at the ranch, Newton said he’s “a lot more conservative than Mitt Romney.” In response to a question about Romney’s eagerness to be elected, Gingrich said: “I wouldn’t switch my positions for political reasons. It’s perfectly reasonable to change your position if facts change. If you see new things you didn’t see – everybody’s done that, Ronald Reagan did that. It’s wrong to go around and adopt radically different positions based on your need of any one election. Then people will have to ask themselves, `What will you tell me next time?'”

Newton is 100% spot on with his appraisal of Mittens; if you can’t hold on to any core values as a candidate, it’s a perfectly reasonable question for the electorate to ask, “What will you tell me next time?”

Don’t get me wrong, Newton’s as loathsome an individual as the GOTP could ever hope to nominate, he’s the Gollum of the race with his sexual liaisons and extramarital affairs and his excuse that only he committed them because of his “great love for his country”; Newton is just as unelectable as Romney, but getting shellacked by the President will at last drive him from the national spot light.”Which way is the wind blowing right now”?

Romney’s ‘Perfect’ President for the 19th Century?

New Hampshire’s largest newspaper, the Union Leader, has announced Sunday it’s endorsing Newton “Stay Puffed” Gingrich in the 2012 Republican Tea Party (GOTP) primary race. This of course comes as a near devastating blow to fellow GOTP presidential candidate Mittens Romney.

Union Leader editorial page editor Andrew Cline said on CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday that Romney’s a “very play-it-safe candidate” which is not what America needs right now. “Perhaps in the late 19th century, perfect.”

“He doesn’t want to offend anybody, he wants to be liked, he wants to try to reach out and be very safe,” said Cline. “And that’s not very realistic, but imagine what that would be like as president.”

The paper had narrowed down its choices to Gingrich and Reverend Rick Perry, eventually going with Gingrich because of his political experience, Cline said.

“I’m really not sure precisely what we get out of a President Romney — who might very well be a good president — but we don’t really know,” he said. “Given the choice between the candidate who wants to be liked and the candidate who wants to be respected, we would rather have the guy who wants to be respected.”

Publisher Joseph W. McQuaide wrote in the endorsement that Gingrich is “by no means the perfect candidate,” but is the best one in the running.

“We don’t have to agree with them on every issue. We would rather back someone with whom we may sometimes disagree than one who tells us what he thinks we want to hear,” he wrote.

So, Mittens has been passed over by the largest newspaper in the state of New Hampshire for Newton; wow, no matter how you try to spin it, that’s got to sting quite a bit. But the editor’s right, Mittens wants to be liked and he’s been selling his soul to every new audience, flip flopping back and forth on every issue saying whatever he thinks the current crowd wants to hear; and well frankly, eventually that kind of political foosball catches up with you. Gingrich’s the first viable challenger to King Mittens and he could pull it off, the rest of the Crazy Eights are simply courtesans at this point.

Harassment claims have affected support, ya think?

The Associated Press (AP) is reporting Republican Tea Party (GOTP) presidential has been playah Herman “Pizza Man” Cain’s acknowledging his slip from the top of the Crazy Eights was due to his lack of addressing accusations of sexual harassment and continued abject confusion about his so-called policies.

The former pizza magnet and “playah” insists his campaign’s sound and supporters remain on board what he calls the “Cain train;” and that sounds reminiscent of what a White Star Line ticket agent might have said about the RMS Titanic still sailing into port even as she was floundering at sea.

Cain has denied the accusations and says “nothing has gone wrong” in terms of the campaign’s mechanics. But he tells CNN’s “State of the Union” that some people “are heavily influenced by perception more so than reality.”

Well look who just caught up; perception is reality Pizza Man, especially in politics, and the fact you and your staff didn’t know this shows once more how unprepared you were to be running.

The Pizza Man never had a chance of winning the nomination, and the fact the party faithful are now flocking to Newton “Stay Puffed” Gingrich shows that. It’s way past time for most of the Crazy Eight’s to pack it in.

Latest 2012 Presidential Polls – 25 Nov 11 Edition

A new CNN/Opinion Research poll of adult voters conducted 18 – 20 Nov 11 has been released concerning the Republican Tea Party (GOTP) nominating circus; the current poll results are:

Newton Leroy Gingrich 24; Mittens Romney 20; Herman “Pizza Man” Cain 17; Reverend Rick Perry 11; Ronny Paul 9; Michele “Krazy” Bachmann 5; Ricky “The Ric” Santorum 4 and  Jon “I can’t believe it’s not butter” Huntsman 3

The GOTP version of the Island of Misfit Candidates continues to play out with Newton maintaining his lead, followed by the Bridesmaid Mittens and the Pizza Man holding in third; Reverend Ricky, Paul and Krazy round out the middle of the pack, while Huntsman falls back to bottom dwelling mud sucker status as Santorum floats a little higher in the GOTP murky political waters.

In Iowa, a new Rasmussen Reports poll of likely voters conducted 15 Nov 11: Gingrich 32; Romney 19; Cain 13; Paul 10, Perry 6; Bachmann 6; Santorum 5 and Huntsman 2…

In New Hampshire, The Polling Company (R) conducted a poll of likely voters conducted 18 – 21 Nov 11: Mittens 35; Gingrich 18; Paul 11; Cain 8; Huntsman 8; Perry 4; Bachmann 4 and Santorum 2 …

In South Carolina, the new The Polling Company (R) poll of likely voters conducted 18 – 21 Nov 11: Gingrich 31; Cain 17; Romney 16; Perry 6; Bachmann 5; Paul 5; Huntsman 3 and Santorum 1 …

In Florida, the new Rasmussen Reports poll of likely voters conducted on 08 Nov 11: Cain 30; Romney 24; Gingrich 19; Perry 5; Bachmann 3; Paul 3; Huntsman 2 and Santorum 1 …

In Nevada, the PPP (D) poll of registered voters conducted from 20 – 23 Oct 11: Romney 29; Cain 28; Gingrich 15; Paul 7; Perry 6; Bachmann 3; Huntsman and Santorum 2 …

In the five states with the lead off primaries – or caucuses – Gingrich leads in 2, Romney leads in 2 and Cain lead in 1.

Concerning how the GOTP “candidates stack up against the President; according to a Rasmussen Reports poll of likely voters conducted 21 – 22 Nov 11, if the general election were held today:

President Obama 44/Romney 38

According to a Rasmussen Reports poll of likely voters conducted 19 – 20 Nov 11, if the general election were held today:

President Obama 46/Gingrich 40

According to a Quinnipiac poll of registered voters conducted 14 – 20 Nov 11, if the general election were held today:

President Obama 50/Cain 37

So, if the GOTP clown car had finally stopped spinning, and the general election was held today, Newton Leroy Gingrich would be the nominee, and he would’ve lost to President Obama.

Romney says false ad is OK?

According to the Associated Press (AP) Republican Tea Party (GOTP) former presidential front runner Mittens Romney is defending a TV ad quoting President Barack Obama out of context, and signaling Romney’s ready to admit he’s a slimy politician who’s prepared to do anything in order to be elected.

The ad began airing in New Hampshire this week using audio of then-Senator Obama campaigning in the state in 2008, saying: “If we keep talking about the economy, we’re going to lose.

The ad fails to point out the President was quoting the campaign of his opponent, 2008 GOP nominee John McCain. Instead, the ad leaves the impression it’s the President who doesn’t want to discuss the economy. It’s a lie and Romney knows it.

Mittens mewed to reporters his campaign distributed the ad with a press release noting the words were originally from Obama’s opponent.

“There was no hidden effort on the part of our campaign. It was instead to point out that what’s sauce for the goose is now sauce for the gander,” Romney said, “This ad points out, now, guess what, it’s your turn. The same lines used on John McCain are now going to be used on you, which is that this economy is going to be your albatross.”

Well, except Mittens that you’re deliberately deceiving the electorate; the fact you told the media outlets the ad was a fake, doesn’t clear you from being a liar.

Do’H!

Town criers Erastmus Limbaugh and Uriah Hannity say it’s about time authorities sent the smelly, flea bitten, mangy protestors packing.

“No one knows why they’ve been protesting,” Limbaugh cried, firmly ensconced behind his golden EIB criers’ bell. “It’s a hodge podge of people with no discernible leaders, the King’s soldiers did exactly the right thing; and further more, there’s nothing to this stuff that they used excessive force.”

“That’s right,” whined Hannity. “Why should the people of Boston have their lives turned upside down every day by individuals who are just lazy and want liberty just given to them?”

GOTP Christmas Special airing in 2012

As Christmas, and the first primaries and caucuses, approach it’s appropriate to wonder where this year’s crop of Crazy Eight Republican Tea Party (GOTP) candidates will be next Christmas, well wonder no more, famed stop motion animators Rankin/Bass have announced a brand new special, “The GOTP Island of Misfit Candidate”, and they’ve released their ideal cast of characters:

Mittens “in the box” Romney; he’s never garnered more than 25% of Republicans polled, thus it would appear few Republicans want to play with him

Michelle “Dolly” Bachmann; the Dolly for Sue’s misfit problem was revealed on NPR’s Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me! News quiz show (broadcast 8 Dec 07). The show revealed that Rudolph’s producer, Arthur Rankin Jr., says Dolly’s problem was psychological, caused from being abandoned by her mistress and suffering depression from feeling unloved. Wow, is that type casting or what?

Newton “the spotted elephant” Gingrich; if you’ve seen the original Rudolph you’ve seen how that white polka-dotted elephant looks, who else but Newton could play him? Besides Newton is the one GOTP nominee who’d love to change some of his spots.

Jon “train with square wheels” Huntsman; a square wheeled train would never get any traction, just like his campaign.

Rick “the cowboy riding an ostrich” Perry; Reverend Ricky is strange enough to actually try this if he thought he’d win the nomination.

Herman “toy boat that sinks” Cain; the boat couldn’t float, and the Pizza Man’s campaign is sinking faster than the Titanic

Rick “water pistol that shoots jelly” Santorum; you look at water pistol and it seems an OK toy, but then it squirts jelly; you look at Ricky and he appears presidential, but then he opens his mouth and you discover you’re wrong.

Ron “bird fish” Paul; he appears so often to be able to spread his wings and fly, but then he jumps off into the air and lands in the deep end of the pool.

Look for this new Christmas classic in December 2012.

Joshua D. Corral

The San Francisco Chronicle is reporting that more than 400 people lined a Danville road Monday to form a silent procession honoring Lance CPL Joshua D. Corral, who was killed in Afghanistan last week.

The Department of Defense announced Monday that Corral, 19, had died 18 Nov 11 while in combat in Helmand province.

The 2010 graduate of San Ramon Valley High School grew up in Danville and was known by most in town as Chachi, said family friend Don Busboom, an American government teacher at the high school.

“Anyone that met Chachi knew that they had encountered somebody who would always put a smile on their faces,” he said. “He was somebody that embraced life and made people feel good to be around him.”

The second oldest of four brothers, Corral was always active and playing sports, and had played on the school’s football team as a freshman, Busboom said.

Despite his young age, Corral knew he wanted to serve in the military, like his grandfather, whom he and his family called Colonel. He graduated first in his Marine Corps class and was his squad’s sweeper – he would go in front of the squad to sweep the area for improvised explosive devices, Busboom said.

“He was somebody who had lived his short life with a sense of purpose, and part of that purpose was to serve others,” he said.

Corral was on his first tour of duty.

Community members organized the procession as a way to greet the family, which was returning from Dover Air Force Base. Corral’s body will be flown back from Dover at a later date.

“We were just letting them know that the community is here for them,” said Turner Stanton, 16.

Busboom will lead a candlelight vigil at Oak Hill Park at 6 p.m. today.

He said what would always stick with him the most is Corral’s focus and sense of purpose.

“He was somebody who knew what he was doing,” he said. “He knew he would be willing to sacrifice his life so people like you and I could live. For somebody that’s 19, that’s a powerful statement.”

CPL Zachary C. Reiff, 22, of Preston, Iowa, died Monday from wounds received from an explosive device while on patrol in Helmand province, the U.S. Marine Corps reported.

Reiff was an anti-tank missileman assigned to 3rd Battalion; 7th Marine Regiment; 1st Marine Division based at Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms.

He joined the Marine Corps in December 2008. This was his second deployment to Afghanistan, the Marine Corps said.

Reiff was wounded on Friday and died Monday night at a hospital in Germany, said Dave Miller, principal of Preston High School where Reiff graduated.
