No Right Turns
I’m certain the President is thrilled with Romney’s ringing endorsement; and this begs the question, why would we need Mitt?
Unions aren’t the enemy
Recently Republican Tea Party (GOTP) presidential hopeful Willard Mitt Romney said he’s going to “push back” against so-called “federal teachers unions” in America; well, sorry to break it to Willard, but unions aren’t the enemy.
In fact:
If you get paid a living wage – you should thank a union member
If you work a 40 hour work week, and get paid overtime after that – you should thank a union member
If you get weekends off – you should thank a union member
If you get paid vacation time – you should thank a union member
If you get paid sick leave – you should thank a union member
If you have health care through your employer – you should thank a union member
If you get raises – you should thank a union member
If you have the right to arbitration in your work place – you should thank a union member
If you have retirement benefits – you should thank a union member
Conservatives love to bash unions in this country; they love to play the “blame game”, and unions are their favorite target, but without unions your life would be a lot different.
Business owners didn’t grant the above mentioned benefits to employees because of their great beneficence, they did it because of organized labor.
Conservatives love to blame the unions for our economic troubles but it wasn’t unions who drove the economy off the cliff during the Bush/Cheney years, and it wasn’t unions who created Governor Walker’s deficit problems; fact is only one group benefits from the destruction of labor unions in America and that’s the top 1% Republicans continuously try to protect.
If there’s an enemy in our economy it’s not the unions, it’s the uber-wealthy 1% hiding money in off shore accounts and claiming to be “job creators” while benefiting for the past ten years from massive tax cuts.
If you don’t like the aforementioned benefits, vote Republican, do it often enough and the day may come when you, or your children, won’t have them.
President Obama raises a lot more money than Romney
In spite of Conservative Talker’s efforts claiming President Obama’s losing favor with his constituents and his “lack” of fundraising supposedly being evidence of this, the Obama/Biden team reportedly picked up $45 million for its re-election bid in February, bringing total raised to about $300 million for this election cycle, compared to $11.5 million raised by Republican Tea Party (GOTP) hopeful Willard Mitt Romney for February; of course Romney burned through more than $18 million in January, winning 65 of 115 delegates at a cost of about $277,000 per delegate as he lost Iowa to Rick Santorum and South Carolina to Newton Leroy Gingrich, and while the President had to spend next to nothing in comparison; the President also raised $29.1 million in January compared to Romney’s $6.4 million.
But yeah, he’s nowhere near as popular as Romney …
Romney will push back against evil teachers unions
Self proclaimed “presumptive” Republican Tea Party (GOTP) presidential nominee Willard Mitt Romney is reportedly pledging to push back against those evil teachers unions if he’s elected president.
Romney’s comments came (where else?) in response to his weekly soft ball questions from the intrepid interviewers on “Fox News Sunday,” “But the role I see that ought to remain in the president’s agenda with regards to education is to push back against the federal teachers unions.” He continued, “Those federal teachers unions have too much power, in some cases, they overwhelm the states, they overwhelm the local school districts. We have got to put the kids first and put these teachers unions behind.”
Romney reportedly said he’d not “necessarily” eliminate the Department of Education, but said it may be combined with other agencies and its “reach” into the states has to be “pulled back.”
Yes, because the darned federal teachers unions (of which there are none) and the Department of Education are way too intrusive making sure children with special needs are taken care of along with that pesky Title IX nonsense. So, once again Romney’s elitist attitudes surface as well as his now famous pandering to the extreme right of the GOTP; one has to ask, does he really think the President can just dismantle a federal cabinet level position, especially one created by fellow “conservative” Richard Millhouse Nixon?
But wait, Romney’s criticism of teachers was aimed at blaming the nation’s “over-paid” educators for the failure of the abysmal No Child Left Behind Act.
“I support the principle of having states test their kids … I did support No Child Left Behind and do support continuing to test our kids,” he said. “I want to know which school districts are succeeding and which ones are failing and where they are failing. I want there to be action taken to get the teacher unions out and to get the kids once again receiving the education they need.”
Two points; first, one more reason not to vote Romney is he supported No Child Left Behind; and second, how are you going to take “action” against “failing” school districts as president if you curtail the Department of Education? Wow, if that’s not classic Romney double speak I don’t know what is?
Romney reportedly continued his criticism of those “federal” teachers unions later at a town hall meeting in Vernon Hills, Ill. “We should pay our beginning teachers more,” he said, according to Crystal Lake Patch. “The national unions are too interested in benefits for the older teachers.”
Yes, we wouldn’t want to take care of the experienced teachers, and any benefits they might need for their eventual retirement. Exactly when did uber-conservatives decide teaching was some cushy job with loads of benefits? Clearly anyone who thinks that way has never spent any serious time teaching in the classroom, certainly Romney never has. Once again Willard’s hitting for the far right field fence, trying to score points with the ubers.
Romney’s six home plague
With news breaking that Republican Tea Party (GOTP) presidential hopeful Willard Mitt Romney wants to once again expand one of his six (yes I said six) homes; reportedly an already very expensive sea-view spot in La Jolla, California, GOTP voters, pundits, fellow candidates and opponents are reminded of a supposedly “apocryphal” tale from the 2008 presidential campaign involving Romney’s multiple homes.
The story goes, when John McCain was looking for his VP pick, allegedly Romney was on the short list of his possible vice presidential running mates. But during the very week they were considering him, McCain created a headache for his campaign by blithely asserting in a press interview that he didn’t know how many homes he and his wife owned. It turned out that the correct number was eight. So, here was the GOTP presidential nominee with eight homes and one of the leading VP picks with six – yeah creates a bit of a wealth gap.
The “I’m too rich for the rest of you” image continues to plague Romney and he doesn’t seem to care, throwing out seemingly endless quips and dropping names as though no one would notice. When asked by FOX PAC anchor Megyn Kelly about the problem with appearing too wealthy. His answer: “Guess what? I made a lot of money.”
Romney’s personal real estate includes six homes: one in La Jolla, two in the Boston area, a ski lodge in Utah and two lakeside residences in New Hampshire.
But Willard doesn’t get it; the majority of the country doesn’t own a home, much less six, and many who do are struggling to keep their homes. The “Guess what? I made a lot of money” resounds of “let them eat cake”; and it’s bound to continue to haunt, if not to outright bite Romney.
