FAA is flying again?

The Senate has approved legislation ending the nearly two-week partial shutdown of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), which according to the Associated Press (AP) clears the way for thousands of employees to return to work and hundreds of airport construction projects to resume.

The legislation was passed using the “unanimous consent” procedure with two senators being present to approve a House-passed bill extending the FAA’s operating authority through mid-September. Democratic Sen. James Webb of Virginia stood up, called up the bill and asked that it be passed. Sen. Ben Cardin, D-Md., the presiding officer, agreed and it was done.

Wow?! See how fast things can move through the Senate when there are no Republican Tea Partistas (GOTP) senators to filibuster.

So, now nearly 4,000 furloughed FAA employees can return to work as soon as Monday – if President Obama signs the bill before then – ending a shutdown costing the government about $400 million in uncollected airline ticket taxes and idling thousands of construction workers.

Although the so-called bipartisan compromise cleared the way for Senate passage of the House bill, including a provision eliminating $16.5 million in air service subsidies to 13 rural communities, the bill now includes language giving the Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood authority to continue subsidized service to the 13 communities if he decides it’s necessary

Tea Partistas had insisted on the subsidy cuts as their price for restoring the FAA to full operation. Which they sort of, maybe got; but not really, because the likelihood of Secretary LaHood chopping those rural subsidies is slim to none; of course the GOTP will thump their chests and claim they cut the budget and evil Democratic appointees refused to go along, but fact is they didn’t win jack!

It was in the midst of the debt ceiling hostage crisis that the shutdown began, and the FAA had to furlough some workers but kept air traffic controllers and most safety inspectors on the job. It’s reported that forty airport safety inspectors worked without pay, picking up their own travel expenses. Those would be some of those horrible, greedy federal employees we’re always being told about. In addition, some 70,000 workers on construction-related jobs on airport projects from Palm Springs, Calif., to New York City were idled as the FAA couldn’t pay for the work.

The problems leading to the shutdown began last month when Republican Tea Partista (GOTP) Congressman John Mica, the chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, said he was going to attach subsidy cuts to a bill to extend the FAA’s operating authority through mid-September.

Democratic Senators then accused the Tea Partistas of breaking with precedent by using an extension bill to enact policy changes that hadn’t been agreed upon. Old Guard Republican Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison of Texas called the measure a “procedural hand grenade.” Senators refused to pass the House bill, saying to do so would be giving into legislative blackmail and inviting the Tea Partistas to up the ante on the next extension bill.

And so the hostage crisis hasn’t really ended, the economic terrorists have simply changed legislation, and are now holding a different part of the economy prisoner in their attempt to force the President and the Democratic Senate to bend to their will. They are two-bit thugs and have no business serving in the Congress; and since all politics is local, particularly where the House is concerned, it makes you wonder what the combined constituency IQ is for some of these Districts.

Tea Partistas are terrorists?

It appears from various new sources that Michele (Krazy) Bachmann is trying to cash in on remarks attributed to Vice President Joe Biden linking “tea party” conservatives with terrorists.

According to the completely unbiased and always reliable Politico, Pennsylvania Congressman Mike Doyle was actually the one who introduced the attack, saying at a meeting of House Democrats, a “small group of terrorists have made it impossible to spend any money.” Vice President Biden, trying to sell the group on the debt-ceiling compromise, reportedly responded: “They have acted like terrorists.”

The Vice President later denied saying that.

“I did not use the terrorism word,” he said in an interview for the “CBS Evening News.” “There were some people who said they felt like they were being held hostage by terrorists. I never said that they were terrorists or weren’t terrorists, I just let them vent.”

But the Vice President’s denial isn’t convincing Krazy (Bachmann), “Only in the bizarro world of Washington is fiscal responsibility sometimes defined as terrorism,” she wrote in an email. “This is yet another example of how the liberal establishment and Obama White House will say and do anything necessary to get their way.”

Bachmann (Krazy) has evidently taken the attack as a personal one, saying she’s the “top target for defeat by the Obama Democrats.”

Spit take … clean off the monitor and keyboard … say what?

“I have faced the liberal attack machine before but their words today took their egregiousness to a new level. I am offended by Vice President Biden’s irresponsible words and need your immediate support to defend myself and fellow Tea Party members right away,” she continued.

OK, whatever you say Krazy.

First, a terrorist is a person who employs terror or terrorism, especially as a political weapon; and second, terrorism is the calculated use of violence (or the threat of violence) against civilians in order to attain goals that are political or religious or ideological in nature; this is done through intimidation or coercion or instilling fear.

Ms. Bachmann, you and your fellow Tea Partistas, threatened to ruin the economy of the United States by forcing a default if you didn’t get your way. You used the calculated threat of destroying the nation’s good faith and credit in attempt to attain your group’s goals that are political, religious and ideological in nature; if the improvised economical device (IED) has your finger prints all over it, I’d say you acted like terrorists.

Soldiers are fighting and dying while Tea Party plays games with debt ceiling

OK Tea Party, you love America so much, and you love and revere those who have fought and died for your freedoms, and yet you play games with our national security by threatening to undo our economy at a time when American soldiers, marines, sailors and airmen continue to fight and die in Iraq and Afghanistan?

You disgust me. You’re not patriots, you’re traitors. You’re allying yourselves with Al Qaeda and every other terrorist group and enemy of our Republic.

Michelle Bachmann is a traitor. She’s openly stated she won’t vote to raise the debt ceiling. Are we no longer at war? No, we’re still fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan; 278 Americans have died there in 2011, while she and her Tea Party friends have played games with the country’s economy. Men and women are dying while she’s making glib remarks.

Speaker John Boehner, Majority Leader Eric Cantor and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell are all traitors. They’ve openly colluded with the enemy during a time of war by attempting to bring down the nation’s economy. Men and women are dying while these three screw around with the debt ceiling; 46 have died during the past few weeks while they’ve been opposing raising the debt ceiling. They’ve gleefully endangered our nation’s security while 46 Americans have bled out far from home.

Enough already! Don’t ever speak of your so-called love for this country again, you’ve proven otherwise. Raise the debt ceiling and then play games. Americans are dying while you pontificate! Shame on you! A curse upon you and your posterity, and upon all who support you! You and they do not deserve the rights and liberties you claim to cherish; you are not worthy to lace the boots of those who will willingly go into harms way so you can sit safe and secure with your PAC monies and your fat cat supporters.

Choose you this day for you cannot serve two masters; either support the oath you swore in your respective chambers to protect and defend or support the pledges you swore to the Tea Party, but choose. You cannot serve both, for you will love the one and hate the other; right now it appears you love the pledge and hate the oath.

GOTP candidates blow off Hispanics

According to the Huffington Post, Republican Tea Party (GOTP) presidential candidates Mitt Romney, Michele Bachmann, Tim Pawlenty, Newt Gingrich and Jon Huntsman were all invited to attend and address the annual conference of National Council of La Raza, the largest Latino organization in the nation.

All five GOTP candidates chose not attend. Wow, really? Conservatives chose to blow off the largest Hispanic organization in the country?

“To me, that sets a signal that we’re not a priority,” said National Council of La Raza President Janet Murguia. “And quite frankly, when you look at the actions that have been occurring by the leaders of the Republican Party, it is, I think, alarming for us in the Latino community.”

Point is, it’s about race and Hispanics are the wrong race. Prove me wrong. Oh wait, you can’t. Conservative presidential candidates won’t attend La Raza because they’re afraid voters on the right will be put off. They’re afraid uber-conservative voters will see attending the conference as being weak on illegal immigration. That’s why. They – the uber-conservatives – don’t like Hispanics, to some they should all go home, even though many more of them have lived here a lot longer than the Palins, Romneys, Bachmanns, Pawlentys, Gingrichs, Perrys and Huntsmans.

The smart thing would have been for Jon Huntsman, who doesn’t stand a snowball’s chance of winning the GOTP nomination, to accept the invitation and to attend and speak and come across as the smart new Republican. Someone on his staff should have said, “Governor, this will make you look good; you’ll be the only conservative there, and you’ll be the only Mormon candidate there. It’s a political coup.” But, unfortunately there appear to be no smart staffers working for the candidates just frightened little children cowering from the shadow of the big bad Tea Party.

Last-minute budget proposal from the President would be irresponsible?

Republican Tea Party (GOTP)  Senator John Cornyn claims it would be irresponsible for President Obama to present a last-minute proposal in the budget debate, the GOTP Texan says time is running out for the president and the GOTP leadership in Congress to negotiate a deal with an Aug. 2 deadline looming to raise the government borrowing limit.

So, let me get this straight Senator, the President presenting a proposal – last minute as you claim – would be irresponsible, but Republican Tea Party members of Congress holding the nation hostage over raising the debt ceiling isn’t? Of course the fact that you, and almost every other conservative member of Congress voted to raise the debt ceiling repeatedly during the Bush Administration was OK, but now it’s tantamount to a  capital crime? That may play well with the Tea Party crowd, but the rest of the country isn’t nearly that stupid.

Utah immigration law blocked?

A federal judge has blocked a Utah immigration law that would have allowed police to check the citizenship status of anyone they arrested, citing its similarities to controversial parts of the immigration law recently passed in Arizona and no doubt soon to be before the U.S. Supreme Court.

The National Immigration Law Center along with the American Civil Liberties Union led the suit to stop House Bill 497, saying it could lead to racial profiling. The civil rights groups submitted hundreds of pages of evidence and affidavits to prove their claims. U.S. District Judge Clark Waddoups agreed, at least in part, issuing his ruling in Salt Lake City, saying there was sufficient evidence for him to believe that parts of the Utah legislation would be found unconstitutional.

If it stands, the Utah law requires police to check the citizenship status of anyone arrested on suspicion of a felony or class-A misdemeanor, while giving officers the discretion to check the citizenship of anyone stopped for traffic infractions any other lesser offenses.

So, just like the Arizona law, any police officer, sheriff’s deputy or state trooper can demand anyone they stop provide proof of American citizenship. Of all the people in the United States, those living in Utah should understand what it means when Constitutional liberties are ignored and the state can treat everyone as criminals with no more justification than a policeman’s whim.

How soon they forget, these descendants of pioneers driven from their homes by similar feelings of prejudice and injustice; how soon indeed. Many claim to be followers of Jesus Christ, but they forget the Master’s teachings, and instead persecute the poor and the needy because they do not want to share the material wealth, or liberties, with which he has blessed them.

“Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? Or thirsty, and gave thee drink?

“When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?

“Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?

“And the King shall answer, … Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.”

Bachmann Enters the GOTP Race?

The Mad Hatter of Minnesota, Representative Michele Bachmann (aka Krazy) has decided it’s time for some “crazy” to be thrown into the Republican Tea Party (GOTP) race for the White House.

Krazy, who not surprisingly has very close ties to the tea party, announced today during the so-called CNN GOTP Presidential Debate that she is running for president.

“Our country needs a leader who understands the hardships that people across America have been facing over the past few years, and who will do what it takes to renew the American dream. We must become a strong and proud America again, and I see clearly a better path to a brighter future,” Bachmann said in a statement issued through her new campaign.

Well, actually Krazy what America needs is leaders who actually know the country’s history; for example where Lexington and Concord are.

During a recent visit to New Hampshire, clutching a tea bag in her hand, Krazy told a group of students and conservative activists in Manchester, New Hampshire: “You’re the state where the shot was heard around the world in Lexington and Concord.”

And of course, who can forget when Krazy announced –during a press conference at a Freedom Watch symposium titled “National security, freedom, and Iran – is it time for U.S. and Western intervention?” – her support for The People’s Mujahideen Organisation of Iran (PMOI, also known as the MEK), saying that it should be removed from the U.S. State Department list of Foreign Terrorist Organizations.

Funny how Krazy claims to love America, but she supports the removal of a terrorist group from the list which protects us from terrorist groups; the U.S. State Department has said the PMOI assassinated at least six U.S. citizens as part of the struggle to overthrow the Shah, backed the takeover of the U.S. embassy in Tehran and opposed freeing U.S. hostages. The U.S. government designated the PMOI a “terrorist” organization in 1997.

Yeah, she’s just the lunatic we need running the country.

House vote caused dip in Market?

Anyone else notice how the precipitous slide in the Stock Market began immediately after the Republican/Tea Party (GOTP) controlled House of Representatives held its sham-wow vote on raising the debt ceiling? It began as soon as that phoney bill went down resoundingly in flames.

To me, this says at least four things; first, not raising the debt ceiling will have monumental consequences for our economy, and in turn the world’s economy, possibly tipping us into the depression we’ve been trying to avoid.

Second, the GOTP just realized this – meaning they didn’t buy all the dire warnings before about what would happen – and now suddenly they’re as scared as everyone else and want to hold some serious discussions on raising the debt ceiling, while making real cuts in spending and not just running with Paul Ryan’s ludicrous plan.

Third, the GOTP knew that by voting not to extend the debt ceiling it would put everything on the verge, and they are demonstrating to the President – and the entire country – how willing they are to take the economy down in order to position themselves for a victory in 2012.

Fourth, it appears the GOTP is either too ignorant to know what the affects will be, or they’re just too reckless to care, and they just want their cuts. They want to force the Ryan plan, and that’s that.

On thinking the GOTP would willfully tank the economy, my father would’ve told me, “You’re giving them too much credit Butch”, and I think he’d be right. I don’t believe the entire GOTP is willing to throw the country off the cliff deliberately, but I do believe they’re willing to play with it, hoping to force the White House to its knees and give in to their demands.

In effect, the Republicans are holding us all hostage, and the President should call the Speaker and his minions to the Oval Office and he should tell them the United States does not negotiate with terrorists; because if Boehner and his thugs are holding the country’s economy hostage in order to force the Ryan plan – or any part thereof –  on everyone, then that’s what they’ve become, economic terrorists.

The GOTP is taking a huge risk, and President Obama should call their bluff. Force them to refuse to raise the debt ceiling, and use his bully pulpit to make sure Americans understand what that will mean, and exactly who destroyed the economy. Make it crystal clear to everyone – well except the 37% of Americans who watch FOX PAC, and who listen to Limbaugh, Hannity, et al, that it was the far-right Tea Party playing conservatives who took us all over the edge. Seven times this same bunch of debt hating, deficit loathing, conservatives voted to raise the debt ceiling under Bush; SEVEN TIMES! But now it’s unholy and immoral to consider it? They’re hypocrites and they need to be thrown out, and thrown out big in 2012. Boehner is destined to be a one term Speaker, and he and his little group of thugs are destined to be foot notes.

Audacity of Limbaugh

Yesterday, 10 Jun 11, while flipping through the radio stations, I came upon a brief exchange between a female caller from Martinez, CA and Rush.

Female Caller: “Every night when I put my girls to bed Rush, we pray for you and for our country.”

Rush: “Why thank you, they’re one and the same.”

Really?

Rush and the country – the United States of America – are one and the same? This demonstrates how Limbaugh really believes he’s running the country. That through his radio show – allegedly touching 12 million listeners (which is less than half of all Republicans in the country) – he thinks he’s guiding America’s destiny.

Of course Rush – if challenged on his comment – would say he was being glib, that it was entertaining.

Problem is, Rush might say that, but he really does believe he’s some kind of king maker. A few moments earlier in the show he had ascribed Mitt Romney’s change of heart on global warming to the fact that he – Rush Limbaugh – had said how Romney’s support of that theory was the end of his campaign.

Rush is megalomaniacism personified.

The fact some family prays for Rush Limbaugh is just astounding. Some good old white bread far right tea party Christian family prays each night for Rush? The sad part is, Rush the multi-millionaire doesn’t care what happens to that woman’s family; he could care less that she prays for him, except that it plays into his ego, and reinforces to him how gullible his listeners are, and how faithfully blind they are.

It’s scary that people believe so whole heartedly in men like Limbaugh and Beck. It speaks volumes to the seemingly low level of intelligence of Limbaugh’s “faithful” listeners (the “Ditto-heads”) and of how desperate they are to have someone to tell them what to think on the issues of today.

One also has to wonder if this female listener in Martinez, CA, casually dismisses all of Rush’s sexist and demeaning comments about women? Does she clarify for her daughters that Rush is “just kidding” when he says demeaning things? Or do those comments just fly right over her head? Unfortunately, it’s probably the latter.
