McConnell says ‘a big deal’ is off the table?

The Senate’s Republican/Tea Party (GOTP) so-called leader Mitch McConnell is reported as saying a major proposal on cutting spending that’s being pushed by the President is off the table as far as the GOTP is concerned.

He says the tax increases that are part of the $4 trillion deficit-reduction package backed by President Obama are the reason.

McConnell whined on “FOX PAC News Sunday” that raising taxes is a bad idea given the country’s weak economy.

GOTP House Speaker John Boehner reportedly said late yesterday that House GOTP members would also not accept tax increases in President Obama’s plan. Boehner further said he’s looking at a deal about half the size of the president’s proposal.

We have Boehner – on record – saying he won’t support $4 trillion dollars in budget cuts, but that he will support $2 trillion dollars in cuts, and McConnell – whose only goal in life is defeating President Obama – saying he won’t support any tax increases. So, this leaves us where? It leaves us knowing Boehner and McConnell aren’t – in any way – serious about cutting either the federal budget or the deficit, and that it’s all political smoke and mirrors to the GOTP.

Boehner seeks smaller $2 trillion deal?

And so it begins; Republican/Tea Party (GOTP) House Speaker John Boehner has sent a message to President Barack Obama saying that he while he shares the President’s desire to cut the deficit, he wants to pursue a much smaller $2 trillion reduction deal, and not the larger $4 trillion effort sought by the White House.

The vaunted leader of the GOTP House has flinched and round one goes to the President. And what’s the Speaker’s reasoning of asking for a lower number? The President is asking for tax increases on the top 2%, and the GOTP just can’t support that; instead, he said negotiators should focus on deficit reductions identified by a bipartisan group led by Vice President Joe Biden.

OK and what exactly does that mean? Which specific deficit reductions identified by the bipartisan group are you supporting Mr. Speaker? Cue crickets …

“The good news is, we agree on some of the big things,” President Obama said. “We agree that after a decade of racking up deficits and debt, we finally need to get our fiscal house in order. We agree that to do that, both sides are going to have to step outside their comfort zones and make some political sacrifices.”

Of course Boehner has said that the two sides were far apart.

“It’s not like there’s some imminent deal about to happen,” he said. “There are serious disagreements about how to deal with this very serious problem.”

The President’s larger plan would combine new tax revenues and significant spending reductions in large government programs.

GOTP House members are saying media reports suggesting Boehner was willing to entertain the possibility of higher tax revenues as part of a “grand bargain” that included cuts to benefit programs like Social Security and Medicare are greatly exaggerated.

“Conservatives are just not going to vote for a tax increase on this economy,” Rep. Trent Franks, R-Ariz., said, reflecting a common view among his GOTP compadres. “It’s just not going to happen.”

So, the GOTP will refuse to endorse tax increases of any kind – especially on the wealthiest of Americans – while no doubt being more than willing to throw the elderly and the poor under the bus, and if they won’t agree to a higher deficit reduction number, and they won’t agree to tax increases on the rich, then they’ll come across as the obstructionists they are, and the President will come off the winner. There is no way for the GOTP to win this battle. If they refuse to negotiate and do raise the debt ceiling they will be painted as being unwilling to put the country before politics, and the President wins. If they do negotiate, then the President wins being seen as a leader and facilitator and again the GOTP loses; Boehner needs to decide which loss is more acceptable.

Perry invites nation’s governors to Texas style prayer day?

So, Texas Republican/Tea Party (GOTP) Governor Rick Perry has invited the nation’s governors to join him in a prayer day to seek God’s guidance to deal with the problems facing America. But, wait a minute, I thought he just wanted to secede and be president of the Second Republic of Texas? Or is this one of those stunts to get the far right wing faction of the party to think he’s one of them?

The day for prayer and fasting is planned for 6 August 11 in Houston and is sponsored by the American Family Association, a Christian advocacy group which describes its mission to “inform, equip, and activate individuals to strengthen the moral foundations of American culture, and give aid to the church here and abroad in its task of fulfilling the Great Commission”. The organization’s website says the event is intended to be a non-denominational, apolitical, Christian prayer service.

Since Perry’s invitation comes on the heels of his announcement that he is considering a run for president should Americans see issues here regarding the constitutional separation of Church and State?

Perry is a strong advocate of the far right Christian conservative wing of the GOTP, and has attended numerous Christian events as governor, and was one of the earliest politicians to embrace the Tea Party’s sometimes questionable rhetoric.

“Given the trials that beset our nation and world, from the global economic downturn to natural disasters, the lingering danger of terrorism and continued debasement of our culture, I believe it is time to convene the leaders from each of our United States in a day of prayer and fasting, like that described in the book of Joel,” Perry said in a statement.

Titled, “The Response,” the event is scheduled to take place at Reliant Stadium. On the website dedicated to the event, organizers said “America is in the midst of a historic crisis.”

OK, “response” to what, or to who?

In his invitation to the other 49 governors, Perry has urged them to also proclaim Aug. 6 a day to pray for “unity and righteousness.”

“We simply want to humbly ask our creator to intervene on behalf of our people and nation, and ask for His blessing and healing power to transform our lives,” he said in the letter.

The AFA said Perry had come up with the idea for the event back in December, way before he had said he was considering a bid for the White House.

“This is not a political event,” said Eric Bearse, a spokesman for the AFA. “This is about gathering people together—men and women of faith—to simply pray for the country.”

Yeah it’s not in any way a political event, it’s just the brain child of a GOTP Governor who is being recruited by the likes of Rush Limbaugh to run for the presidency, but it’s not a political event. OK, sure it isn’t.

Have a little faith liberals …

Everyone on the left seems to joining the conservatives in bashing the President over his insistence that “nothing is off the table” when it comes to the budget discussions. To everyone whining on the left I say, “Have a little faith baby.” President Obama is not selling out Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid, and this is what Presidents do; they bring all sides to the table and hammer out programs, budgets, etc … and besides that, when the President says “nothing is off the table” and the Republican/Tea Party (GOTP) members of Congress fire back that “tax increases to wealthy are not on the table” who looks immature and not ready for the prime time? That’s right, the GOTP.

Have you considered that putting everything on the table doesn’t mean he’s going to radically change them? No, it hasn’t. We’re all just going to join in and start bashing away with comments that “he’s too conservative” and “he shouldn’t be willing to negotiate.”

Regarding putting Social Security “on the table”, what if the President’s selling point would be that he forces the GOTP Congress to accept that every dollar earned must be collected on effectively ending the FICA tax loophole everyone earning more than $110,000 per year benefits from increasing the Social Security trust fund and effectively making it solvent well into the future? Not something Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck and every member of Congress would be in favor of, but it bring hundreds of billions of dollars – if not trillions – into the fund.

And let’s suppose the President puts “everything on the table” and the Republican/Tea Party (GOTP) Congress still refuses to negotiate, who comes off looking bad? The Congress of course, because there are members of the Congress on the right who will not negotiate, no matter what, Congressman Cantor and Senator McConnell both come to mind, and they’ll come off looking like the bad guys. They’ll come off looking like the smucks they are.

So, before you drink any more Hatorade, take a deep breath, and have a little faith. This President has accomplished more than any other progressive president since FDR, let’s not forget that. He isn’t going to throw the big three under the bus in spite of what Ed Schultz claims, who by the way is beginning to sound as wild and crazy as Limbaugh more and more every day. Ed, ratchet it back a few, you’re beginning to sound ridiculous. President Obama will force the GOTP to the table, and he will come off the winner politically, and the American people will come off the better. If we default – as some on the far right would like to see – then the country will be in serious trouble. When the dust settles, the far right Tea Party members of the Congress will be standing there looking as morose as ever, and feeling foolish. They will not be heroes, and will then be painted as the frauds they are.

So, I repeat, “have a little faith baby.”

Brown says tax increase is off the table?

Republican Tea Party (GOTP) Senator Scott Brown has jumped into the ring regarding the fight over the federal budget.

During a stop in Springfield last week Brown reportedly said the President has proposed a debt reduction plan that includes $400 billion in tax increases, but as far as he was concerned tax hikes are off the table.

“There’s a whole host of things you can do before raising taxes. Why is it that the first thing people think about? We could repatriate our money, streamline, consolidate, we can. Payroll tax deduction for businesses to create jobs to stimulate the economy,” Brown said.

Yeah, we’ll just give more tax breaks to the wealthy, that’s worked so well during the past ten years, and we should just keep doing that. What? Were you seriously dropped out of the stupid tree and hit every branch on the way down? Why is the GOTP answer – every time – when talking about the debt to cut taxes for the rich and cut programs for the poor? So now Senator Brown has shown he’s just like every other conservative in the Congress, bought, paid for and elected by and for the wealthiest among us.

GOTP leader criticizes handling of Somali suspect?

The Senate Republican Tea Party (GOTP)  leader is criticizing the Obama administration’s decision to bring a Somali man facing terrorism charges to New York for trial.

GOTP Senator Mitch McConnell has reportedly said that moves by the Obama administration undermine U.S. national security and makes no sense when the prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, is available. The Kentucky GOTP lawmaker also questioned why the man is being given the rights and privileges of U.S. citizens, such as being read his Miranda rights.

OK Senator, where to start? How does it undermine our national security to try an alleged terrorist in a United States court? Answer; it doesn’t. Your assertion that he should be detained and tried before the military tribunals at Guantanamo Bay is the quaint throw back to the Bush/Cheney era of torture, imprisonment and trial from which President Obama is trying to steer our country away from. Your idiocy knows no bounds, and you display out in the open for all to see. We read Miranda rights to anyone, regardless of their citizenship, who is arrested in the United States. We wouldn’t want the alleged terrorist to be set free because he wasn’t read them would we? And oh by the way Senator, this was also the policy under the aforementioned Bush/Cheney administration, and as hard as you try, isn’t some grand scheme by the “socialistic” Obamaites to over throw the nation.

Furthermore Senator since you have made it your stated mission to defeat President Obama, basically everything you say has to be questioned not only for its validity and relevance but also for its accuracy. You’ve attempted – once again – to portray this President as being soft on terror; I’m sorry but which President actually ordered a Navy Seal team to get Bin Laden? Oh yeah, this one!

You are not relevant Senator, your views are not relevant, and you’re making a fool out of yourself. Please, unless you ever have something of substance to say, just keep your pie hole shut.

John Quincy Adams a Founding Father?

John Quincy Adams – the sixth president of the United States – was born 11 July 1767; the Declaration of Independence was signed 4 July 1776; when the document was signed giving birth to these United States, John Quincy wasn’t present. His father John Adams and even his uncle Samuel Adams were there, but alas young John Q was not. Why wasn’t he there? Because he was only eight years old, and as Clarence Thomas so recently pointed out, young John Q. wouldn’t have had any civil rights or liberties to declare. John Quincy Adams was eight years old when the nation was founded; when the “Founding Fathers”, founded it. You can’t be a founding father when you’re eight, and when you’re not there, and that’s a fact.

But when has Republican/Tea Party (GOTP) hopeful Michele Bachmann (aka Krazy) ever cared about facts? After all she was born in the same town as John Wayne (actually it was John Wayne Gacy an infamous serial killer). At a recent campaign stop Krazy declared that John Quincy Adams was a Founding Father. She also claimed the Founding Fathers worked tirelessly to end slavery, but that of course is also a misstatement. Remember the whole 3/5 of a person thing?

But why worry about a few misstatements of historical accuracy? After all she only wants to be president, and it’s not like she gave a fanciful recreation of Paul Revere’s ride complete with nonexistent shots and bells and had Revere making his famous midnight ride to warn the British?

Problem is this is how the Tea Party – and its celebrated candidates – views history; incorrectly. And few seem to either notice or care. We live in an era when uber-right wing talking heads imagine themselves as being the intellectual equals of Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, George Washington and Thomas Paine, complete with rewriting these men’s political philosophies in updated language – meaning to suit the talking heads own agendas. For instance in today’s politically charged right wing world, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal …” would be translated to say, “We hold these truths to be self evident, that all white male conservative Christian Americans are created equal …”

Tea Party members, and their candidates, are attempting to rewrite history, some deliberately, and some out of ignorance – Palin and Bachmann – in an attempt to make our country into something the Founders never intended; an oligarchy with fabulously wealthy conservatives pulling all the strings and determining our collective political futures. Why do Limbaugh, Hannity and Beck all think Citizens United was a wonderful ruling? Because they fashion themselves to be part of the wealthy class, they see it as the opportunity to run things while never running for office. Why do Tea Party members think it was a great thing? Because they all believe one day that Lotto ticket is going to pay out big.

Rewriting history to serve one’s political purpose is criminal – conservatives’ attempting to speak for what the Founder’s true intent was to suit their own political and financial ambitions; rewriting history out of ignorance – conservatives attempting to speak for what happened, and for what the Founder’s true intent was and getting it completely wrong is just sad. But it’s even sadder when all the Tea Party members attending events and watching on FOX PAC nod right along with Bachmann and Palin as they get it wrong.

Romney doesn’t just flip flop he lies?

Ever since entering the race for the Republican Tea Party (GOTP) nomination, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney (aka Flopsy Mopsy) has said on occasions too numerous to count that while the economy was bad when President Barack Obama went into the White House he has made it worse, and this of course implies somehow that he, Flopsy Mopsy, is the candidate who can magically make it all better. It’s tag line he’s used almost every time his pie hole has popped open, but earlier this week, while campaigning ago in Pennsylvania, Flopsy claimed he had never said it.

When NBC producer Sue Kroll asked the former Massachusetts governor why he believes the President’s policies have made the economy worse, in spite of the fact the economy is now growing instead of shrinking as it was when he took office in 2009; when the Dow is climbing, and is no longer in a free-fall it was in when George Bush left office, and when the unemployment rate is beginning to turn around, now down nearly a full percentage point from where it was in the fall of 2009, Mopsy looked straight at her and said, “I didn’t say that things are worse…. What I said was that economy hasn’t turned around.”

Excuse me? It was just Monday, during Romney’s 4th of July campaigning in New Hampshire where he said, “The people of New Hampshire have waited long enough. They want to see good jobs. They want to see rising incomes. They want to see an economy that’s growing again, and the president’s failed. He did not cause this recession, but he made it worse.”

Romney has now proven himself to be what many – including me – have suspected for some time; he’s a liar. He’s just one more GOTP candidate willing to say whatever it takes to get the nomination and then to move on to the White House.

How exactly does bald faced lying mix with his religious faith? Well, Latter-day Saints (Mormons) take honesty very seriously, in fact one of the Church’s Articles of Faith says, “We believe in being honest …” How does that square Flopsy? Either the economy has gotten worse, or it hasn’t (it hasn’t); either you said it, or you didn’t (he did). So, basically you’ve lied (in this particular instance) twice. You said the economy is worse (it’s not) and that you never said that (you did). You’re a liar.

Flopsy seems to think he can say whatever he likes and that no one will notice, yes, he seems to believe American voters are that thick. In late April – while trying to attack the President on the economy – Flopsy claimed America wasn’t at war, and that the country was in the midst of a “peacetime” economy.

“Barack Obama is facing a financial emergency on a grander scale,” Romney said. “Yet his approach has been to engage in one of the biggest peacetime spending binges in American history.”

Yes, the would-be king of the GOTP actually said we’re currently in peacetime economy? Where has he been for the past ten years? Hello Mitt? 9-11? Afghanistan? Iraq? Any of these ring a bell? Anyone? Bueller? Anyone? You’re not only a pathetic liar who assumes you’ll never get got, you’re so out of touch you actually claimed we’re in a peacetime economy while we continue to spend more than $2 billion dollars per week in Afghanistan and Iraq.

You – Romney – are a liar, and yes, everyone knows it.

Last-minute budget proposal from the President would be irresponsible?

Republican Tea Party (GOTP)  Senator John Cornyn claims it would be irresponsible for President Obama to present a last-minute proposal in the budget debate, the GOTP Texan says time is running out for the president and the GOTP leadership in Congress to negotiate a deal with an Aug. 2 deadline looming to raise the government borrowing limit.

So, let me get this straight Senator, the President presenting a proposal – last minute as you claim – would be irresponsible, but Republican Tea Party members of Congress holding the nation hostage over raising the debt ceiling isn’t? Of course the fact that you, and almost every other conservative member of Congress voted to raise the debt ceiling repeatedly during the Bush Administration was OK, but now it’s tantamount to a  capital crime? That may play well with the Tea Party crowd, but the rest of the country isn’t nearly that stupid.

McCain claims Afghan drawdown unnecessary risk?

2008 Republican/Tea Party (GOTP) Presidential candidate (lost) Senator John McCain said Sunday the Obama administration is taking an unnecessary risk in drawing down the number of U.S. troops in Afghanistan, and has  said none of the U.S. military commanders has recommended the drawdown.

Two things Senator, first, what would you call unnecessary, and second, which U.S. military commanders? These are questions your statements do not address.

How necessary is it for the United States to remain in Afghanistan? Thanks to President Obama’s decision to take out Bin Laden the original purpose for invading has been accomplished. We spend an estimate $2 billion dollars per week in Afghanistan, money our country can ill afford to continue spending.

Which U.S. commanders are you referring too, or are you just making that up? May I remind the Senator that the President of the United States is the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and doesn’t need to listen to the U.S. Commanders. If any of them have disagreed as you claim let them come forward and say so, or they can cower behind you and remain anonymous. United States commanders do not criticize the President any more than any other military personal do, they follow orders. Privates do not disagree with lawful orders of superiors, and neither should these so-called commanders you claim to be speaking for. Of course, had you and the Ice Queen been elected into office you’d still have more than 100,000 soldiers in Iraq, and hardly any in Afghanistan while in all likelihood Bin Laden would still be hiding, and  you would have engaged in military action against Iran as you claimed you would have. Thank God you were not elected.

President Barack Obama has ordered troop reductions of 10,000 by the end of the year and another 23,000 by September 2012, and while the Marine general expected to carry out the president’s order to begin withdrawing U.S. troops has said the drawdown schedule is a bit more aggressive than the military had anticipated he has not said – as McCain has claimed – that it is an unnecessary risk.

You, Senator McCain, need to keep your opinions on military strategy where they belong, echoing inside your seemingly empty head. You were not elected because American voters rejected your delusional policies, and your promise to continue the same failed delusional policies of the Bush Administration. Get this through your thick skull – you are not the President and you will never be the President; thank you for your service, but now you need to accept you’re not in charge, and as I said before, thank God for that.
