Words don’t matter

One day, when one of your children draws cross hairs over a brother or sister’s face in a picture; don’t worry, it doesn’t mean anything. It’s just a drawing.

If they scream at one of their siblings “I’m going to kill you!” Don’t be alarmed, it’s just words.

If they scream at you, “I hate you!” It’s nothing to be upset about. It’s OK, words don’t mean anything.

If the teacher says “I wish someone would punch another teacher in the face”, and some student does it, it’s not the teacher’s fault; it’s the fault of the student who throws the punch. If the same teacher says, “I wish someone would punch (put your kid’s name here) and your child gets beat up. Don’t blame the teacher. It’s not their fault. It’s those kids who beat up your kid.

Patrick Henry didn’t really mean to inspire anyone when he said “Give me liberty, or give me death!” They were just words.

“Common Sense” by Thomas Paine didn’t really hold any sway in the fight for Independence, it was just some words.

The Declaration of Independence doesn’t really mean anything. It’s just a bunch of words. You weren’t supposed to really believe that all men are endowed with anything …

“Love thy neighbor as thy self,” doesn’t really mean that. Words don’t have any consequences. They don’t mean anything. “I love you” doesn’t really mean that.

The Ten Commandments are just words, guidelines maybe, they can’t really mean anything.

Or is it just the violent words that don’t mean anything? The ones meant to whip up the base?

But they really can’t mobilize the base can they? I mean, they don’t have any meaning. Do they?

Tree of Liberty Needs to be …

Well, you got your wish. The tree has been watered with the blood of a Congresswoman, her aide, a Federal Judge and nine-year-old Christina Taylor Green, born on 9-11, who wanted to help her community. Ain’t it a proud moment?

Words have meanings, and they have consequences.

Don’t glibly throw around words about revolution, and watering the tree of liberty, unless you’re willing to see – and live with – whose blood is spilt to pay for your words.

Just because the 1st Amendment protects your right to say it, doesn’t mean you should. Yes Tea Party, this means you. You can disagree with the President and the Democratic Party without talking about murder and insurrection. Stop comparing yourselves to the patriots of 1776, because there is no comparison. You, and your rhetoric, make me sick.

Glenn Beck is a Jedi Master?

From the folks at Media Matters: “On his Fox News show, Beck attacked The Wall Street Journal‘s Thomas Frank for writing a column critical of Beck’s view of history, saying that the piece had ‘no substance.’ Beck added: ‘There never is. What they do is they attack. They smear and hope something sticks. Frank/Thomas, and those just like you — they’re in love with President Obama and his agenda.’ He went on to say: ‘They look to destroy anyone that stands in their way, but they will fail. Yes, because I’m a Jedi master. As long as we are all standing, we will not fail, as long as we [are] here in the fire of truth.’ [Glenn Beck, 8/4/10, via Nexis]”

So, Glenn Beck is a Jedi Master? Let me think … Nope, he’s not. If Beck were anything he’d be a Sith apprentice, and that would mean there has to be a Sith Lord out there somewhere. Because, as Master Yoda once said, “Two there always are, a Master and an apprentice.”

But who would be the Master?

Why of course! It’s so obvious! FOX PAC owner Rupert Murdoch!

Senator Brown Supports Repeal of ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’?

Well, this has got to be making the Tea Party crowd go apoplectic now doesn’t it?

It is refreshing to see that at least one GOP Senator has the guts and common sense to do the right thing here. You can think – or believe – what you want about homosexuality, and the gay and lesbian lifestyle; however, gays and lesbians serving openly in the military is not going to affect how our Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines perform their sworn duties to support and defend the Constitution against all enemies, both foreign and domestic.

Today’s Tea Party is Yesterday’s Facism?

There is a dangerous similarity between groups who beat up those who oppose them …

Political violence repeating itself?

While there may be many in the Tea Party who would not commit violence, there are others committing violence in the name of the party.

Violent Revolution is on the Table?

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/10/22/stephen-broden-revolution_n_772391.html

If Tea Party members don’t want to be blamed for the speech, views or actions of the few, than those of us who do not support the Tea Party movement need to hear you denouncing those lunatic few in newspapers, on TV, on radio talk shows etc. If you’re going to insist – with FOX News – that all terrorists are Muslim, than by the same logic, we get to insist that all political  lunatics are Tea Party members.

The Tea Party is being branded as a bunch of nut jobs threatening the very Constitution it claims to love. Political descent as an American is one thing, threatening opened rebellion if you don’t get what you want is another. And unfortunately, Pastor Broden’s is not just one extremist view, we’ve all seen the signs at rallies, and heard Sharon Angle, Sarah Palin, Christine O’Donnell and many other “Tea Party” nominees make similar statements. We’ve seen the gun toting Tea party members at rallies, and watched as a Tea Party nominated candidate for the United States  Senate had his private security force arrest a journalist for asking questions he didn’t like. These are signs of a group threatening to rebel, and wanting to overthrow the very fabric of our Republic, and it is troubling.

When the movement uses slogans like “We’re going to take our country back” coupled with images of people carrying automatic weapons, and its candidates saying that “Violent revolution is on the table” than large numbers of people who are associated with the Tea Party, but who disagree with the rhetoric, need to speak out; otherwise you may find yourselves being found guilty by association. After all, members of your group have been saying the President is guilty by association to all kinds of people and causes, so Tea Party members may find the same to be true. What’s good for the goose, is good for the gander.
