McCain picked Palin because she was qualified?

According to former GOP presidential candidate John McCain, Sarah Palin’s qualifications were the overriding reason he selected the former Alaska governor as his 2008 presidential running mate.

Giving some free, and unsolicited, advice to Republican Tea Party (GOTP) presumptive candidate Willard Mitt Romney’s upcoming choice of a running mate, McCain said on ABC’s “This Week” that the “primary, absolute, most important aspect is if something happened to him, would that person be well qualified to take that place?”

“I happen to believe that was the … primary factor on my decision in 2008,” McCain said, “and I know it will be Mitt’s.”

Having a “person [Romney] knows he could trust,” is also a critical consideration,” McCain told host Jake Tapper.

So, John McCain really, honestly, believes Sarah Palin, the woman who couldn’t name a single Supreme Court decision she disagreed with, the woman who couldn’t name one magazine or newspaper she read to keep up on what was happening in the world, the women who had no clue what the Bush Doctrine was and who made outrageous claims of being well versed on Russia because you could see it from Alaska was qualified to be vice president?

One more example as to why McCain had no business being President, and to show how lucky we are he was never elected.

He needs to come clean and admit picking Palin was not just a mistake but a disastrous mistake, and the only qualifications she had was that she was a woman and that she was younger than him.

Palin was picked to help offset McCain’s “old man” image, and because someone in his campaign staff thought they could capitalize on President Obama’s having not picked Hillary Clinton as a running mate. They believed millions of disaffected Democrat women would come flocking to their banner because he chose a woman. Didn’t matter who the pick was, they just needed a woman.

He screwed up; that’s all, he screwed up, and his pick proved what everyone suspected, that John McCain had lost it.

Latest 2012 Presidential Polls – 04 May 12 Edition – or, and now there are 1 ½ candidates …

Newton Leroy Gingrich has finally bowed out of the Republican Tea Party (GOTP) presidential contest leaving perennial hopeful Willard Mitt Romney and the other guy; but Willard still has yet to capture the magic 1,144 delegates to officially make him the nominee.

The regular season primary wins to date: Romney 26; Ron “Somebody or Other” 0 and anyone but Romney 12.

The GOTP Delegate Count (1,144 needed to win) to date is: Romney 865; other than Romney 414 and Paul 93.

The current GOTP Popular Vote Count is:

Romney 5,228,676

Other than Romney 5,780,644

Paul 1,335,822

Although Willard’s still the presumptive nominee, it’ still (week after week) a big fat hairy fact, there’ve been more votes cast for anyone but Romney than for Romney:

Anyone but Romney 7,116,466 (58%)

Romney 5,228,676 (42%)

That’s right sports fans; Willard’s only managing 42% of his own party’s vote to date; the President must be truly terrified by the amount of support Romney’s garnering.

So, how does the “presumptive” GOTP candidate stand up against the President?

The most recent “viable” polls (which are neither FOX News nor Rasmussen); but interestingly enough, the most current Rasmussen Tracking poll of likely voters conducted 01-03 May 12; if the general election were held today:

President Obama 47/Romney 45

However, if you eliminate the traditional five point slant towards the conservative side of Rasmussen’s polling the real numbers are probably somewhere around:

President Obama 52/Romney 45

If the general election was held today, Willard Mitt Romney would be the GOTP nominee, and he’d lose to President Obama in the general election.

How big would Willard lose? Well, if the General Election were held today, the Electoral College totals based on all available current poll numbers:

Thoughts on the Occupy Movement

Most revolutions – to include our own – are, in the beginning, driven by economic disproportional perceptions (remembering that perception is reality); the Boston Tea Party was an act by petulant protesters reacting to a series of taxes (most particularly on tea) by the government …

The French Revolution was brought on by perceived economic differences between classes and resentment by peasants, laborers and the bourgeoisie toward the traditional seigneurial privileges possessed by the nobility – the French Government was dealing with staggering debt as a result of coming to America’s aid in its own revolution.

The Russian Revolution likewise was a creation of perceived economic differences between the classes and resentment of royalty, and a government dealing with staggering debt brought on by World War I.

The Occupy Movement is also a creation of perceived economic differences between the classes – except its not aimed at a political monarchy – but at a perceived financial upper class (a nobility) in our country. It’s coupled with an economy trying to recover from the worse recession since the Great Depression and a staggering debt brought on by more than a decade of war.

One of Romney’s greatest hurdles is to break the perception he’s one of “them”, something not helped by owning five homes (complete with car elevators), multiple Cadillacs, dressage horses, $990 silk tee-shirts, and offshore accounts in the Caymans and Switzerland … “perception is reality”, and with the country in the grips of perceived economic turmoil, being fabulously wealthy doesn’t help when running for the Presidency; joking that you “like to be able to fire people” doesn’t help. Romney saying he’ll overturn controls recently implemented on the Stock Market and Banking Industry doesn’t help. The political and economic reality is that today’s Republican Tea Party (GOTP) can’t survive by protecting the uber-wealthy at the expense of everyone else; when Willard Mitt Romney fails in his bid for the White House, it won’t be negative advertising that does it, it’ll be his own wealth, and his inability to shake the rich-boy born with a silver foot in his mouth image.

It doesn’t help when Governors like Scott Walker giving huge tax breaks to the wealthy and businesses and then blaming the deficit created on “special interest” groups like teachers and nurses doesn’t help the perception.

It doesn’t help when right-wing talker Sean Hannity (a millionaire) says poor people can make great big pots of rice and beans and live just fine; a definite “let them eat cake” moment.

It doesn’t help when the controlling party in the House appears to be resentful of keeping student loan interest rates low, unless it can cut health care programs primarily aimed at low income women, while fighting tooth and nail to keep tax rates at the lowest level in 60 years for the wealthiest 1%. Congressman Ryan is a mufti-millionaire, and his “budget” proposes deep cuts in social spending while increasing spending on the military and protecting tax cuts for the wealthy (his class); the perception is the ruling class (wealthy “nobility) doesn’t care about the rest of the population.

Remember, “perception is reality”; and the perception is that 1% control the wealth and the government, and some elements of the 99% aren’t staying quiet about it; it doesn’t excuse the destruction of private property, but conversely there’s no excuse for some use of excessive force used by police officers either – that only helps the protest grow, it doesn’t cow it.

Whether you agree with the Occupy Movement or not doesn’t matter, it’s here; the perceived reality for those who are struggling to pay the rent, and to pay for school, and to eat from day-to-day is there’s a huge disparity in our country between those who have and those who don’t.

Latest 2012 Presidential Polls – 27 April 12 Edition

Republican Tea Party (GOTP) presidential hopeful Willard Mitt Romney prevailed in all five primaries held on Tuesday – no duh. Who were his opponents, a disgraced former House Speaker and a crazy Congressman from Texas? And even though he’s running against two virtually non-existing candidates Willard still hasn’t managed to capture the magic 1,144 delegates needed to be the winner; so, he remains the “presumptive” winner.

The biggest news to come from Tuesday’s primaries is that Newton Leroy Gingrich will announce he’s dropping out of the race early next week – of course he hasn’t been in the race since his “colony on the moon” moment.

The regular season primary wins to date: Romney 26; Gingrich 2; Ron “What’s His Name” 0 and anyone but Romney 10.

The GOTP Delegate Count (1,144 needed to win) to date is: Romney 838; other than Romney 267; Gingrich 141 and Paul 88.

The current GOTP Popular Vote Count is:

Romney 5,221,445

Other than Romney 3,376,375

Gingrich 2,402,960

Paul 1,335,024

Although Willard’s the presumptive nominee, it’ still a big fat hairy fact – as it has been all through the primaries – there’ve been more votes cast for anyone but Romney than for Romney:

Anyone but Romney 7,114,359 (58%)

Romney 5,221,445 (42%)

That’s right sports fans; Willard’s only managing 42% of his own party’s vote to date; the President must be truly terrified by the amount of support Romney’s garnering.

So, how does the “presumptive” GOTP candidate stand up against the President?

The most recent “viable” polls (which are neither FOX News nor Rasmussen) the Gallup Tracking poll of registered voters conducted 21-26 Apr 12; if the general election were held today:

President Obama 50/Romney 43

According to the National Journal poll of voters conducted 19-22 Apr 12; if the general election were held today:

President Obama 47/Romney 39

If the general election was held today, Willard Mitt Romney would be the GOTP nominee, and he’d lose to President Obama in the general election.

How big would Willard lose? Well, if the General Election were held today, the Electoral College totals based on all available current poll numbers:

Romney’s only going to release two years of tax returns because John Kerry only released 20?

According to the history books, Republican presidential candidate George Romney released 12 years of income tax returns when he ran 1968. George Romney’s son however plans to release just two; father released 12, son released two; but now Willard Mitt Romney’s campaign’s looking for a loophole to get him out of the corner of not wanting to release too much of his financial info. What’s their solution? Use the last Democratic loser – John Kerry – as his example.

In an interview with CNBC’s Larry Kudlow, Willard tried to cover his tracks of thus far only releasing one year thus far, and sort of a second year (which is now not accurate because he’s asked for a six month extension to file) claiming, “John Kerry released two years of taxes…I’ve released one already, put the estimate out for the next year. We’ll have two years of taxes.”

There’s only one tiny problem with Willard’s claim about the Senator from Massachusetts; he actually released at least 10 and possibly 20 years of tax returns, not two.

According to news sources, the senator made it standard practice to release five or six years worth of tax returns during each of his Senate campaigns, meaning when he launched his 2004 presidential bid, 18 years of tax returns had already been made public; he then released an additional two years’ worth during the campaign. Hence he’d released the previous 20 years worth of tax returns by the time he ran for the White House.

This one of two things and maybe both; first, Willard’s campaign staff blew it yet again by not doing its homework, thus once again proving they’re not quite ready for the Prime Time; and second, Willard Mitt Romney knew the number was false and used it anyways. Either way it’s just one more time Willard’s been caught red handed stretching things to suit who he’s talking too.

Willard’s either incredibly obtuse, or a liar, or possibly both; if you have to tell lies about your opponent’s record in order to beat him it’s clear your opponent’s not all that bad, and probably doesn’t deserve to be kicked out of office. If you have to lie in order to help cover your own image, i.e., claiming John Kerry also only released two years of tax returns when he obviously didn’t, it’s clear you probably have something to hide, something that would make you look less desirable? One thing’s for certain, every time Willard does this it’s only adding tape to the commercials currently in production for the general election.

It took me less than 20 seconds to find the answer to how many years of tax returns Kerry paid, not including related news stories to Mitt’s comments – note to Willard’s staff, one word, “Google”.

Romney says Secret Service agents should be fired, but Nugent’s comments are OK?

According to the Associated Press (AP) Republican Tea Party (GOTP) presumptive presidential nominee Willard Mitt Romney says he’d “clean house” to remove Secret Service agents involved with Colombian prostitutes ahead of President Barack Obama’s visit.

Willard told uber-conservative radio talking head Laura Ingraham that people should be fired who put “their personal play time” ahead of the nation’s interests. He suggested a lack of leadership led to scandal, which involved at least 20 women, but said he has confidence in Secret Service Director Mark Sullivan.

“I’d clean house,” Willard reportedly told Ingraham when asked how he would address the situation. “The right thing to do is to remove people who have violated the public trust and have put their play time and their personal interests ahead of the interests of the nation.”

In an earlier radio interview, Willard claims he shares the President’s confidence in the Secret Service chief.

“We are a nation, after all, under law and the president has confidence in the head of the Secret Service, as do I,” Willard said. “I believe that the right corrective action will be taken there and obviously everyone is very, very disappointed in these stories, very uncharacteristic of the service.”

Sullivan, facing questions on Capitol Hill about whether the escapades could have jeopardized the president’s security, said he had referred the matter to an independent government investigator.

He said the 11 Secret Service agents and 10 military personnel under investigation were telling different stories about who the women were. Sullivan has dispatched more investigators to Colombia to interview the women, said GOTP Congressman Peter King, chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee.

Obviously – if the allegations are true – it was stupid of the agents and military personnel involved, but it’s equally ridiculous for Romney to be weighing in that he’d fire the people involved when he’s failed to denounce his reported “campaign surrogate” Ted Nugent after he threatened the life of the President over the weekend, announcing to the NRA convention in St. Louis that he (Nugent) would “either be dead or in jail this time next year” if President Obama was re-elected. Time for Willard to show some “core values” and tell everyone what Ted Nugent said was wrong, and he’s cutting all ties with him; otherwise, when he talks about it being “a reflection of leadership” he looks pretty obtuse.

Nugent draws Secret Service attention?

According to news reports former mediocre rocker Ted Nugent has earned himself the coveted attention of the United States Secret Service after saying he’d be “dead or in jail by this time next year” if President Barack Obama is re-elected.

Short version, Ted’s pretty stupid.

Nugent made the comments during an interview at the National Rifle Association convention in St. Louis, comparing Obama and his administration to “coyotes” that needed to be shot and encouraging voters to “chop [Democrats’] heads off in November.”

Just exactly what our country needs more violence laced rhetoric from far right extremists like Nugent; who by the way is a close personal friend of Sean Hannity.

Republican Tea Party (GOTP) presumptive presidential candidate Willard Mitt Romney, has been endorsed by Nugent, but currently Willard has no comment on whether he agrees with Nugent, but that view will likely change three of four times by the end of the day.

The Secret Service is aware of Nugent’s remarks and is taking the appropriate action, according to Dan Amira of New York Magazine reports. It’s standard procedure for the Secret Service to investigate any threatening comments made against the president, and Nugent just made a whopper.

Various groups and organizations are calling on Willard to distance himself from Nugent and his remarks.

“We don’t expect moderation from Ted Nugent,” said Michael Keegan, president of People For the American Way. “But we do expect a major presidential candidate like Mitt Romney to rebuke a prominent supporter for spewing hate-filled and violent rhetoric against the President of the United States.”

DNC chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz also weighed in on the controversy.

“Romney surrogate Ted Nugent’s comments about Pres. Obama are vile & beyond the pale — and the Romney campaign should denounce them immediately,” the Florida congresswoman tweeted.

The DNC’s also followed up with an online petition encouraging people to tell Romney to denounce “Nugent’s hateful speech,” and has also released a web video hammering Nugent’s position as a “surrogate for Mitt Romney.”

Romney’s camp had not denounced Nugent, but has called for everyone to play nice.

Willard’s spokesperson Andrea Saul said, “Divisive language is offensive no matter what side of the political aisle it comes from,” she said, according to Talking Points Memo. “Mitt Romney believes everyone needs to be civil.”

Bottom line is this is typical far-right get the gun vote out violent rhetoric and it has no place in 21st century politics; Nugent was a mediocre rock star who’s become a fanatic in his hatred for the President and Romney’s inability to flat out denounce what was said is just one more example of his willingness to let anything and everything be said, either by him or someone else, so he can win the election.

Someone threatening the life of the President is unacceptable, to do it while acting as your surrogate is doubly wrong, and failure – by Romney – to denounce his words isn’t only a sad mark against his character, it’s not presidential.
