Latest 2012 Presidential Polls – 24 April 12 Edition

Today there will be primaries in Connecticut, Delaware, New York, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island, but it doesn’t matter in the least – Romney’s going to win his party’s nomination and the other guys will eventually walk away – unless they’re drawn to the idea of being president like a moth is drawn into a flaming candle; then Romney still wins and they end looking more ridiculous than they do now.

Since we’ve finished the first Santorum free week of the 2012 Republican Tea Party (GOTP) presidential campaign season, not much has really changed in the land of make believe known as Romney for President; he’s still sticking his silver foot in his mouth, and he’s still flip flopping more than a landed trout on everything from personal income taxes to immigration.

However, even though Santorum’s dropped out, the regular season primary still putters on and our current record remains: Romney 21; Gingrich 2; Ron “What’s His Name” 0 and anyone but Romney 10.

The GOTP Delegate Count (1,144 needed to win) to date is: Romney 656; other than Romney 272; Gingrich 140 and Paul 67.

The current GOTP Popular Vote Count is:

Romney 4,595,908

Other than Romney 3,209,301

Gingrich 2,284,557

Paul 1,191,026

Although Willard’s the presumptive nominee, it still remains – as it has all through the primaries – there have been more votes cast for anyone but Romney than for Romney:

Anyone but Romney 6,684,884

Romney 4,595,908

So, how does the “presumptive” GOTP candidate stand up against the President?

The most recent “viable” polls (which are neither FOX News nor Rasmussen) the Gallup Tracking poll of registered voters conducted 18-22 Apr 12; if the general election were held today:

President Obama 47/Romney 44

According to the NBC News/Wall St. Jrnl poll of registered voters conducted 13-17 Apr 12; if the general election were held today:

President Obama 49/Romney 43

If the general election was held today, Willard Mitt Romney would be the GOTP nominee, and he’d lose to President Obama in the general election.

Army cancels Nugent appearance?

According to news sources the United States Army has cancelled Ted Nugent’s upcoming appearance at Fort Knox, KY, citing inflammatory language while expressing his displeasure with President Barack Obama.

“After learning of opening act Ted Nugent’s recent public comments about the president of the United States, Fort Knox leadership decided to cancel his performance on the installation,” it’s Facebook posting says.

So far, the 23 Jun 12 concert remains on the Fort Knox schedule, with REO Speedwagon and Styx listed as “co-headliners,” and army personnel are saying they’ll grant requests for refunds in light of their decision to nix the opening act.

Of course, this cancellation’s simply the latest wrinkle in a controversy engulfing the aging rocker since last weekend when, speaking at an NRA convention, Nugent proclaimed he’d be “dead or in jail” if the President’s reelected in November.

Also referring to the President, as well as Democratic candidates in general, he said, “We need to ride into that battlefield and chop their heads off in November.”

As President Obama’s the Commander in Chief, and as the men and women serving at Fort Knox are his subordinates, and as it’s a violation of the UCMJ for service personnel to threaten the life of the President, the Army’s completely right to cancel Nugent, especially since he clearly has a hard time keeping his yap shut, and who knows what he’d say on an Army post. Words have meaning, and the meaning of Nugent’s misguided words were a threat to the President, hopefully with a few more cancellations he’ll learn to think before he mouth’s off.

Romney’s only going to release two years of tax returns because John Kerry only released 20?

According to the history books, Republican presidential candidate George Romney released 12 years of income tax returns when he ran 1968. George Romney’s son however plans to release just two; father released 12, son released two; but now Willard Mitt Romney’s campaign’s looking for a loophole to get him out of the corner of not wanting to release too much of his financial info. What’s their solution? Use the last Democratic loser – John Kerry – as his example.

In an interview with CNBC’s Larry Kudlow, Willard tried to cover his tracks of thus far only releasing one year thus far, and sort of a second year (which is now not accurate because he’s asked for a six month extension to file) claiming, “John Kerry released two years of taxes…I’ve released one already, put the estimate out for the next year. We’ll have two years of taxes.”

There’s only one tiny problem with Willard’s claim about the Senator from Massachusetts; he actually released at least 10 and possibly 20 years of tax returns, not two.

According to news sources, the senator made it standard practice to release five or six years worth of tax returns during each of his Senate campaigns, meaning when he launched his 2004 presidential bid, 18 years of tax returns had already been made public; he then released an additional two years’ worth during the campaign. Hence he’d released the previous 20 years worth of tax returns by the time he ran for the White House.

This one of two things and maybe both; first, Willard’s campaign staff blew it yet again by not doing its homework, thus once again proving they’re not quite ready for the Prime Time; and second, Willard Mitt Romney knew the number was false and used it anyways. Either way it’s just one more time Willard’s been caught red handed stretching things to suit who he’s talking too.

Willard’s either incredibly obtuse, or a liar, or possibly both; if you have to tell lies about your opponent’s record in order to beat him it’s clear your opponent’s not all that bad, and probably doesn’t deserve to be kicked out of office. If you have to lie in order to help cover your own image, i.e., claiming John Kerry also only released two years of tax returns when he obviously didn’t, it’s clear you probably have something to hide, something that would make you look less desirable? One thing’s for certain, every time Willard does this it’s only adding tape to the commercials currently in production for the general election.

It took me less than 20 seconds to find the answer to how many years of tax returns Kerry paid, not including related news stories to Mitt’s comments – note to Willard’s staff, one word, “Google”.

Romney says Secret Service agents should be fired, but Nugent’s comments are OK?

According to the Associated Press (AP) Republican Tea Party (GOTP) presumptive presidential nominee Willard Mitt Romney says he’d “clean house” to remove Secret Service agents involved with Colombian prostitutes ahead of President Barack Obama’s visit.

Willard told uber-conservative radio talking head Laura Ingraham that people should be fired who put “their personal play time” ahead of the nation’s interests. He suggested a lack of leadership led to scandal, which involved at least 20 women, but said he has confidence in Secret Service Director Mark Sullivan.

“I’d clean house,” Willard reportedly told Ingraham when asked how he would address the situation. “The right thing to do is to remove people who have violated the public trust and have put their play time and their personal interests ahead of the interests of the nation.”

In an earlier radio interview, Willard claims he shares the President’s confidence in the Secret Service chief.

“We are a nation, after all, under law and the president has confidence in the head of the Secret Service, as do I,” Willard said. “I believe that the right corrective action will be taken there and obviously everyone is very, very disappointed in these stories, very uncharacteristic of the service.”

Sullivan, facing questions on Capitol Hill about whether the escapades could have jeopardized the president’s security, said he had referred the matter to an independent government investigator.

He said the 11 Secret Service agents and 10 military personnel under investigation were telling different stories about who the women were. Sullivan has dispatched more investigators to Colombia to interview the women, said GOTP Congressman Peter King, chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee.

Obviously – if the allegations are true – it was stupid of the agents and military personnel involved, but it’s equally ridiculous for Romney to be weighing in that he’d fire the people involved when he’s failed to denounce his reported “campaign surrogate” Ted Nugent after he threatened the life of the President over the weekend, announcing to the NRA convention in St. Louis that he (Nugent) would “either be dead or in jail this time next year” if President Obama was re-elected. Time for Willard to show some “core values” and tell everyone what Ted Nugent said was wrong, and he’s cutting all ties with him; otherwise, when he talks about it being “a reflection of leadership” he looks pretty obtuse.

Nugent draws Secret Service attention?

According to news reports former mediocre rocker Ted Nugent has earned himself the coveted attention of the United States Secret Service after saying he’d be “dead or in jail by this time next year” if President Barack Obama is re-elected.

Short version, Ted’s pretty stupid.

Nugent made the comments during an interview at the National Rifle Association convention in St. Louis, comparing Obama and his administration to “coyotes” that needed to be shot and encouraging voters to “chop [Democrats’] heads off in November.”

Just exactly what our country needs more violence laced rhetoric from far right extremists like Nugent; who by the way is a close personal friend of Sean Hannity.

Republican Tea Party (GOTP) presumptive presidential candidate Willard Mitt Romney, has been endorsed by Nugent, but currently Willard has no comment on whether he agrees with Nugent, but that view will likely change three of four times by the end of the day.

The Secret Service is aware of Nugent’s remarks and is taking the appropriate action, according to Dan Amira of New York Magazine reports. It’s standard procedure for the Secret Service to investigate any threatening comments made against the president, and Nugent just made a whopper.

Various groups and organizations are calling on Willard to distance himself from Nugent and his remarks.

“We don’t expect moderation from Ted Nugent,” said Michael Keegan, president of People For the American Way. “But we do expect a major presidential candidate like Mitt Romney to rebuke a prominent supporter for spewing hate-filled and violent rhetoric against the President of the United States.”

DNC chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz also weighed in on the controversy.

“Romney surrogate Ted Nugent’s comments about Pres. Obama are vile & beyond the pale — and the Romney campaign should denounce them immediately,” the Florida congresswoman tweeted.

The DNC’s also followed up with an online petition encouraging people to tell Romney to denounce “Nugent’s hateful speech,” and has also released a web video hammering Nugent’s position as a “surrogate for Mitt Romney.”

Romney’s camp had not denounced Nugent, but has called for everyone to play nice.

Willard’s spokesperson Andrea Saul said, “Divisive language is offensive no matter what side of the political aisle it comes from,” she said, according to Talking Points Memo. “Mitt Romney believes everyone needs to be civil.”

Bottom line is this is typical far-right get the gun vote out violent rhetoric and it has no place in 21st century politics; Nugent was a mediocre rock star who’s become a fanatic in his hatred for the President and Romney’s inability to flat out denounce what was said is just one more example of his willingness to let anything and everything be said, either by him or someone else, so he can win the election.

Someone threatening the life of the President is unacceptable, to do it while acting as your surrogate is doubly wrong, and failure – by Romney – to denounce his words isn’t only a sad mark against his character, it’s not presidential.

Ann Romney’s been denied the dignity of work?

So, last week it was the height of insult to stay at homes to merely suggest Ann Romney had never worked a day in her life, but lo and behold, who said just a few months ago that poor women who stay at home to raise their children should be given federal assistance for child care so that they can enter the job market and “have the dignity of work”?

If you said Republican Tea Party (GOTP) presumptive presidential candidate Willard Mitt Romney you’d be absolutely correct, and you’d win a cookie. In fact, Willard gave the world this pearl of wisdom just last January; sort of undercuts the whole sense of righteous indignation and extreme pique he demonstrated last week defending his wife against the unmitigated  attacks from Democratic strategist Hilary Rosen.

According to Huffington Post, Willard’s seemingly forgotten remark, made to a 1950’s era conservative Manchester, N.H., audience was unearthed by MSNBC’s “Up w/Chris Hayes,” and aired during his show this past weekend.

For Willard it appears there’s clearly a difference between stay-at-home moms supported by federal assistance and those backed by hundreds of millions in private equity income. According to Willard, poor women shouldn’t be given the choice his wife was able to afford; instead they should be required to work outside the home to receive Temporary Assistance for Needy Families benefits.

“Even if you have a child 2 years of age, you need to go to work,” Willard declared of moms on TANF.

“I wanted to increase the work requirement,” Willard mewed. “I said, for instance, that even if you have a child 2 years of age, you need to go to work. And people said, ‘Well that’s heartless.’ And I said, ‘No, no, I’m willing to spend more giving day care to allow those parents to go back to work. It’ll cost the state more providing that daycare, but I want the individuals to have the dignity of work.'”

But wait, Mitt’s January view simply echoes a remark he made in 1994 during his failed Senate campaign when he said, “This is a different world than it was in the 1960s when I was growing up, when you used to have Mom at home and Dad at work,” Romney said “Now Mom and Dad both have to work whether they want to or not, and usually one of them has two jobs.”

WHOA, HOLD THE PHONE MATE! So, in other words Willard’s admitting his wife’s never experienced “the dignity of work”?

Of course for families like the Romney’s it’s still the 1960’s and Mom gets to stay home making those tough economic decisions like, “how many car elevators do we really need?”

In a surprise this week, Richard John Santorum unexpectedly did the common sense thing and withdrew from the Republican Tea Party (GOTP) presidential race – the other two guys are still in it; what are their names?

So, the GOTP primaries are basically done now …

“Ladies and Gentlemen, I present your presidential nominee, Willard Mitt Romney!” (cue crickets)

The regular season primary comes to its all but inevitable end with the current records for the GOTP “Confederacy of Dunces”: Romney 21; Santorum 10; Gingrich 2 and “What’s His Name” 0.

The GOTP Delegate Count (1,144 needed to win) to date is: Romney 566; Santorum 263; Gingrich 140 and Paul 67.

The current GOTP Popular Vote Count is:

Romney blames President for emboldening North Korea to build sucky missile

According to news reports, Republican Tea Party (GOTP) presidential aspirant Willard Mitt Romney’s trying to link North Korea’s failed rocket launch to President Obama saying the president’s efforts to appease the regime have “emboldened” Pyongyang.

Willard’s claiming President Barack Obama has “no effective response” to North Korea’s weapons program and supported a “food-aid deal” “that proved to be as naive as it was short-lived.”

“At the same time, he has cut critical U.S. missile defense programs and continues to underfund them,” Romney said. “This incompetence from the Obama Administration has emboldened the North Korean regime and undermined the security of the United States and our allies.”

Someone should point out to Willard that the vaunted North Korean inter-ballistic missile took off, broke apart, and plopped into the ocean. They’ve become so emboldened they built a missile that sucks so badly dolphins were laughing as it fell around them.

Wow, I’m underwhelmed by the level of this potential threat; additionally I need to write myself a note to cancel my application to the North Korean Space Program.

Willard’s expansive foreign policy experience – which consists of how many Swiss skiers can fit into a minivan – is clearly showing; and isn’t it grand he keeps parading it out for all to see?

President defends Ann Romney?

According to the Associated Press (AP), President Barack Obama’s sticking up for Ann Romney, the wife of Republican Tea Party (GOTP) rival Willard Mitt Romney and the apparent  target of a Democratic operative who’s suggesting she’s unqualified to speak about the economy’s tolls because she’s “never worked a day in her life.”

“It was the wrong thing to say,” Obama told WCMH-TV in Columbus, Ohio. Criticism of candidates’ spouses should be out of bounds, he added.

Polls show women lean heavily Democratic and favor Obama by a wide margin in battleground states, and unfortunately for Willard, he must win at least 40 percent of the women’s vote to have a shot at beating the President.

Willard’s keeping his mouth shut on the issue – so far – allowing Ann to comment, saying raising five sons is hard work and that while she never has worried about finances, she has faced the ordeals of cancer and multiple sclerosis.

Everyone should be able to agree on a couple of things here; first, the candidate’s wives “should” be out of bounds, however, the First Lady’s been repeatedly attacked by the talking heads on the right from the beginning of the last campaign in 2008; second, mothers work a lot harder than fathers and raising children is a full-time job; that being said however, raising children when you have hundreds of millions of dollars squirreled away in off shore accounts is considerably easier than raising kids when you’re worried about where the rent money’s coming from or if the only food your children get during the day will be from their school.

Mrs. Romney has faced tremendous challenges in her life, and she’s no doubt infinitely qualified to address those challenges as a woman; however, she’s not remotely qualified to address many other issues facing women today, or to be the person Willard turns to when he wants a woman’s opinion.

For instance:

Can she address everyday women’s healthcare issues? Nope, sorry, $200 million in off-shore accounts pretty well assure she’s never waited in clinics all day to be seen by an over-worked staff; nor have her children. On top of this, her hubby says he’s going to end Planned Parenthood and all its health programs for women. What’s Ann’s opinion on that decision affecting millions of women?

Can she address women’s employment issues? Nope, sorry, again there’s that $200 million staring her in the face; on top of that “little” issue, she’s been a stay at home mom who’s never been employed; she hasn’t had to go out and supplement the family income, she hasn’t had to leave her boys in day care or with relatives while she went to work being paid less than her male counter-parts.

Can she address women’s pay issues? Nope, sorry again, she’s never been paid less than her male-counterparts because she’s never worked.

Can she address women’s economic issues? Nope, sorry, when you have $200 million sitting in the Caymans you really don’t worry about the price of a gallon of milk, a loaf of bread, a new back pack or pair of tennis shoes.

Wait, what about the price of a gallon of gas, after all doesn’t she have two Cadillacs?

Clearly there’s a plethora of women’s issues where Ann would be just as clueless as her husband, and that’s the point being made the other day, albeit badly.

The Romney’s can’t have it both ways, they can’t live in the world of Thurston and Lovey Howell III, while trying to pretend to be Ozzie and Harriett, and then get offended when someone calls them on it. They don’t know the struggles of “the little people” because they’re not now, nor ever have been in that classification, so please spare the electorate from the pretended outrage.

Romney campaign staff asks, “Lilly who?”

According to news reports, Republican Tea Party (GOTP) candidate Willard Mitt Romney’s staff doesn’t know if their boss supports the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act; somehow that’s not all that surprising.

The Ledbetter Act, signed into law by President Obama, helps women pursue pay discrimination claims in court by extending the period during which alleged victims can sue their employers.

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) was quick to jump on the issue posting audio of the conference call, and especially pointing to the awkward moment of silence between the question and the staff’s seemingly blurry eyed response.

“Does Gov. Romney support the Lilly Ledbetter Act?” asked the Huffington Post’s Sam Stein.

(Six seconds of silence)

“Sam, we’ll get back to you on that,” an unidentified aide says.

What that silence and response says is, “they didn’t know what the Lilly Ledbetter Act was”. And how exactly does a staff for a presidential campaign not know this kind of stuff? It demonstrates the “quality” of the people supposedly advising Romney, which appears to be a group of middle school students from some undisclosed small town in Utah.

The DNC’s reportedly mocking the response encouraging supporters to tweet with a new hashtag “#WellGetBackToYouOnThat.”

But wait, that’s not all, President Obama’s re-election team’s also losing no time exploiting one more “we’re out of touch moment” from the Romney camp, putting out a statement from the woman whose case inspired Obama to push for the law, Lilly Ledbetter.

“I was shocked and disappointed to hear that Mitt Romney is not willing to stand up for women and their families,” she said. “If he is truly concerned about women in this economy, he wouldn’t have to take time to ‘think’ about whether he supports the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act.”

Willard’s staff stumbled to the defense with campaign spokesman Rick Gorka being unable to say whether or not Romney supports the Ledbetter Act, instead insisting he “supports pay equity for women.”

Gorka later emailed to clarify Romney’s “not looking to change current law.”

At least not today, this hour; but check back later – probably at the next campaign event and you’ll no doubt get another answer.

What he should have said is, “As of right this moment, Governor Romney is 100% in favor of equal pay for women; and he is absolutely committed to this issue, just as committed as he is to every issue – hey, when has he ever changed his mind?”
