Hannity’s television audience has fallen to half since President’s re-election?

The New York Daily News has reported Nielsen – the company responsible for gathering and releasing data regarding television-viewers’ viewing habits – is showing, in its figures for the fourth-quarter of 2012, that FOX News’ little leprechaun Sean Hannity’s television program has lost almost half of its audience since President Obama pummeled Mitt Romney in the general election in November.

hannity ratings

Why have so many viewers stopped watching Hannity? Because he’s a schmuck who spent the entire summer and fall predicting – unsuccessfully – how the President was going to lose to Romney and lose big. When things didn’t quite work out that way, Hannity and his usual gang of political misfits (Dick Morris, Ann Coulter, Karl Rove, and Sarah Palin to name a few) looked obtuse and incredibly out of touch with the smallest shred of political reality. Anyone willing to look objectively at the polling data knew Romney was going to lose, anyone, except for Hannity and crew.

But wait, there’s more, Nielsen’s also reporting Hannity’s lost more than half of his 25-to-54-year-old audience members of angry white Christian gun loving tin foil hat wearing couch potato crunching men, a demographic crucial in relation to advertising dollars for his program and thence FOX News.

Hannity isn’t losing his audience simply because he blew political chunks where the election was concerned, he’s losing it because of his incessant whining, moaning and complaining about everything the President does. He’s losing it because of the company he keeps agreeing with Ann Coulter’s one thing (as bad as that is), but setting up house with the likes of Ted Nugent? Hannity’s become a hateful little man, with an annoying little whiny voice and if his ratings continue to slide at the current rate the nation will soon be blessed without his program. Perhaps FOX News will continue chopping heads, and Sean’s will be next; first Palin, then Morris and next Hannity? One can only hope.

NRA’s LaPierre’s claiming the President’s ‘Trying To Take Away’ Americans’ Guns?

According to his appearance, and subsequent spanking, on “FOX News Sunday”, Wayne LaPierre, executive vice president of the National Rifle Association (NRA) is accusing the President of the United States of wanting a universal gun registry, “trying to take away” guns and believing his children deserve security while others do not. The spanking then ensued at the hands of host Chris Wallace.

wayne-lepierre

Wallace begin LaPierre’s comeuppance by asking the NRA “spokes head” to explain – if he could – the NRA’s video accusing President Barack Obama of wanting armed Secret Service Agents for his own children but allegedly opposing armed security for others. Wallace was quick to point out the President’s children face a larger threat than most – if gee, I don’t know? All other American children?

“Tell that to the people at Newtown,” LaPierre brazenly replied attempting to deflect the fact the so-called “right” for private citizens to own the XM-15 assault rifle used in the monstrous massacre of 20 first graders is being protected by his organization.

“Do you really think that the president’s children are the same kind of target as every schoolchild in America?” Wallace asked. “It’s ridiculous, and you know it, sir.”

LaPierre wasn’t able to defend his asinine argument so he attempted to change the subject by claiming while there could be more severe law enforcement against gangs, measures such as regulating certain semi-automatic weapons would have dire consequences. Just one problem Mssr LaPierre, gangs weren’t responsible for any of the mass shootings using assault rifles in America.

“If you limit the American public’s access to semi-automatic technology, you limit their ability to survive,” he weakly mewed. Because we’re likely to be invaded any minute by North Koreans, or perhaps you were referring to the conspiracy theory threat of the federal government coming to throw its citizens into secret prisons?

LaPierre also attempted to prophesy a universal gun registry’s next; a measure, Wallace reminded him, has not been proposed.

“Forgive me, sir, but you take something that is here and you say it’s going to go all the way over there,” Wallace said. “There’s no indication — I mean, I can understand your saying that’s the threat, but there’s nothing that anyone in the administration has said that indicates they’re going to have a universal registry.”

LaPierre’s falling back on the same old tried and true method of the uber-right, fear monger. You don’t need to tell the truth, you don’t need facts on your side, just fear monger. He’s a liar, and sooner or later the majority of Americans, members of the NRA, and hopefully the members of Congress will call him on it; hopefully before anymore of our children are lost.

Arming Janitors …

Thanks to the school district allowing him to

Just one reason why arming janitors could be a potentially really bad idea.

Violence in the work place + workplace filled with kids = catastrophe

Lindsey Graham claims Secretary of State Hillary Clinton ‘Got Away With Murder’?

According to news reports, Republican Tea Party (GOTP) Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina’s claiming outgoing Secretary of State Hillary Clinton “got away with murder” in the Benghazi attack that killed Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans.

graham

“I haven’t forgotten about Benghazi. Hillary Clinton got away with murder, in my view,” Graham pontificated on Fox News Monday evening, speaking to Greta Van Susteren. “She said they had a clear-eyed view of the threats. How could you have a clear-eyed view of the threats in Benghazi when you didn’t know about the ambassador’s cable coming back from Libya?”

Well Senator, how about this? Perhaps if the uber-conservative GOTP members of the House hadn’t slashed funding for embassy defenses the four Americans would still be alive? The hypocrisy of the right knows no bounds, it’s amazing how this attack’s somehow criminally negligent but the death of more than 3,000 Americans on 9-11, and then sending more than 4,000 American soldiers to their deaths on faulty intelligence wasn’t? So, using Graham’s logic then, the Bush Administration got away not with murder, but with “mass murder”.

In New Mexico Moronic Bill Would Criminalize Abortions After Rape As ‘Tampering With Evidence’

According to news reports, an incredibly obtuse Republican lawmaker in New Mexico has introduced a bill legally requiring rape victims to carry their pregnancies to term in order to use the fetus as evidence for a sexual assault trial.

brown2

House Bill 206, is the brain child of state Rep. Cathrynn Brown (R), and would charge a rape victim who ended her pregnancy with a third-degree felony for “tampering with evidence.”

“Tampering with evidence shall include procuring or facilitating an abortion, or compelling or coercing another to obtain an abortion, of a fetus that is the result of criminal sexual penetration or incest with the intent to destroy evidence of the crime,” the bill says, and third-degree felonies in New Mexico carry a sentence of up to three years in prison.

The bill’s unlikely to pass though since Democrats have a majority in both chambers of New Mexico’s state legislature.

Brown claims she introduced the bill with the goal of punishing the person who commits incest or rape and then obtains or facilitates an abortion to destroy the evidence of the crime.

Really, the baby’s going to be the only evidence of the rape? How about a rape kit used collect DNA evidence? Are you really this ignorant? Are you this arrogant?

“New Mexico needs to strengthen its laws to deter sex offenders,” said Brown. “By adding this law in New Mexico, we can help to protect women across our state.”

Wow, Republican Tea Party (GOTP) types have used tortured logic before in order to inflict additional harm upon rape victims – enforced vaginal probes, trying to define “legitimate” rape as well as claiming a woman’s body can prevent a pregnancy if she’s raped – but none has gone this far. Brown appears to be another unthinking right-wing zealot who will do whatever she can to impose her views; she serves as a member of the board of Carlsbad’s Right to Life chapter, and she’s also fond of posting pictures to her Facebook page from the Life’s Issues Institute such as the following:

life's issues photo

Brown’s now attempting to backtrack claiming the bill, as introduced, was a misprint. Wanting to charge a rape victim with a third degree felony if she gets an abortion isn’t misprinting Representative, it’s a deliberate attempt to force your myopic Christianity upon everyone else. Thank God the Constitution provides for a separation of Church and State to protect my daughters and granddaughters, my nieces and friends from the likes of good god-fearing Christians like you.

Ye Haw! Texas School District Will Let Teachers Carry Guns

According to FOX News there’s a little hick Texas school district bragging about how it may just be may be the very first in these darned blamed United States to pass a law allowing Schoolmarms and staff to tote shooting irons to school.

arming_teachers

Who are these lame brains you ask? Well, they’re the so-called Trustees at the Harrold Independent School District and they approved a district policy change last October so employees can carry concealed firearms to deter and protect against school shootings, provided the teachers follow certain requirements.

Superintendent David Thweatt said the policy was initiated because of safety concerns.

“We have had employees assaulted before by people in the last several years,” Thweatt said. “I think that safety is big concern. We are seeing a lot of anger in society.”

But hold on thar now partner, don’t get your knickers all knotted up, in order for teachers and such to carry a pistol, they must:

  1. Have a Texas license to carry a concealed handgun – which means, “You’re breathing and can whistle Dixie”.
  2. Be authorized to carry by the district – what are the odds these numb nuts will tell someone no? Pretty close to zip I’d think.
  3. Receive training in crisis management and hostile situations – because teachers and janitors are always level headed and never get upset
  4. Use ammunition specifically designed to minimize the risk of ricochet in school halls – because you don’t want any ricochets, don’t worry about the caliber of the pistols firing the bullets, it’s OK if they pass through walls and doors, but for Pete’s sake don’t let them ricochet; you do understand there’s no such thing as ammo that doesn’t ricochet? Can we be any more obtuse?

Thweatt said the small community is too far from the sheriff’s office (30 minutes), leaving students and teachers without protection. He said the district’s lone campus sits 500 feet from heavily trafficked U.S. 287, which could make it a target.

Well here’s an idea Cletus, hire an armed school police officer or two; it’s a lot safer than arming teachers, secretaries, janitors, and lunch ladies, and you won’t have the chance of a teacher losing their cool with a class or a student and start waving their piece around. In more than ten years of teaching, and having worked with hundreds of teachers, there are maybe five I’d trust with a gun in school.

“The naysayers think [a shooting] won’t happen here,” Thweatt said. “If something were to happen here, I’d much rather be calling a parent to tell them that their child is OK because we were able to protect them.”

You can almost hear Thweatt’s next bright idea, “Next year we’re going to install minefields around the school and require staff and students to wear tin foil hats, because if the Ruskies or Koreans attack they’ll get caught up in the mines, and then the staff can mow them down, and well, the tin foil will prevent the space aliens from reading our minds.”

Countering the NRA

In the past year 70 people have been ruthlessly murdered by gunmen using either assault weapons – as in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting – or 9mm pistols with high capacity magazines.

no_nra

And yet 1.3% of the nation’s total population of 315,167,682 people is keeping us – as Americans – from having the long overdue discussion and accompanying legislation to address this issue. The National Rifle Association has a reported 4,250,000 members, or 1.3% of the total population.

During the 2012 campaign cycle the NRA contributed $1,061,710 to the election process, with $719,596 being “donated” to federal campaigns. Of course the NRA also gave out hefty funds in the form of lobbying in 2012, totaling some $2,205,000. Total political contributions + lobbying = $3,266,710, or roughly $6,000 of peddling per member of the United States Congress. How do the other 99% fight that kind of money and influence?

Well, for starters, there are 169,000,000 registered voters (53.6% of the population) in the United States, including 86,000,000 registered Democrats (27.2% of the total population) and 55,000,000 registered Republicans (17.4% of the total population), with 28,000,000 registered others (8.8% of the total population). If each registered Democrat wrote to every member of the Congress and said they’d give them $5.00 a piece to pass meaningful legislation including a ban on assault weapons and high capacity magazines, that would equal $430,000,000 in influence divided between 535 members of Congress or $803,738 in campaign contributions; a great deal more than any member of Congress has ever received from the NRA.

And, if only half of all registered Democrats were to write to every member of Congress and offer to donate $5.00 a piece, that would equal $215,000,000 in influence, again divided between 535 members of congress equals $401,869 in campaign contributions; once again, a great deal more money than any member of Congress has ever received from the NRA.

A very simple solution to countering the NRA; money talks, and more money talks louder.

Four Step Plan to Prevent Senseless Gun Violence

This really isn’t rocket science; here are my thoughts on helping to prevent another Sandy Hook or Aurora.

weapons-ban

Step one – get the right-wing to stop making excuses for needing assault weapons and high capacity magazines – of course if they don’t we’ll just move on to step two without them.

Step two – ban assault weapons and high capacity magazines

Step three – increase funding for school security throughout country, mandate federal standards for security, i.e., doors, windows, armed police officers etc

Step four – increase federal funding for mental health care, or simply fully fund it under the Affordable Care Act.

If the right-wing won’t police its own house – ie, the NRA – then the rest of us will; the Congress and the Tea Party oppose meaningful gun legislation at their own political peril; in case they didn’t notice they didn’t win in November. This isn’t about the adults rights to own whatever thing (gun) they want, personal property rights do not trump another individual’s right to life – as in 20 first grade students slaughtered at Sandy Hook.
