Huckabee Attacks Portman, Then Beats a Hasty Retreat?

Once again Mike Huckleberry opens mouth, inserts foot, and attempts to run away on one leg. During an interview with right wing conservative radio host Michael Medved, the former Arkansas governor, and quickly becoming non-potential 2012 presidential hopeful, slammed recent academy award winner Natalie Portman for supposedly “glamorizing unwed pregnancy.”

Portman is expecting her first child with her fiancé, Benjamin Millepied, a choreographer whom she met on the set of “Black Swan.” During her acceptance speech, Portman thanked Millepied for “the most wonderful gift,” their baby.

The FOX PAC talking face took issue with that statement, and the entire premise of her pregnancy, calling Portman’s pregnancy “troubling” and suggesting it might “glorify and glamorize” the idea of having children outside of marriage. He claimed, as only a southern white male right wing conservative Christian tool can, that most single mothers aren’t in the same position as Portman in terms of her lifestyle and resources.

“There aren’t really a lot of single moms out there who are making millions of dollars every year for being in a movie,” Huckabee said. “And I think it gives a distorted image … Most single moms are very poor, uneducated, can’t get a job, and if it weren’t for government assistance, their kids would be starving to death and never have health care. And that’s the story that we’re not seeing.”

Of course most single teenage moms aren’t the daughter of Alaska’s governor either, being able to have their baby on the state’s dime and all; but, Mr. Hucksabee never seemed to have a problem with that pregnancy.

The “reverend” continued his assault on Portman saying, “One of the things that’s troubling is that people see a Natalie Portman or some other Hollywood starlet who boasts of, ‘Hey look, you know, we’re having children, we’re not married, but we’re having these children, and they’re doing just fine.’ But there aren’t really a lot of single moms out there who are making millions of dollars every year for being in a movie. And I think it gives a distorted image that yes, not everybody hires nannies, and caretakers, and nurses. Most single moms are very poor, uneducated, can’t get a job, and if it weren’t for government assistance, their kids would be starving to death and never have health care. And that’s the story that we’re not seeing, and it’s unfortunate that we glorify and glamorize the idea of out of children wedlock,” Huckalee continued. “You know, right now, 75 percent of black kids in this country are born out of wedlock. 61 percent of Hispanic kids — across the board, 41 percent of all live births in America are out of wedlock births. And the cost of that is simply staggering.”

But wait people, this was all a big mistake! Just like he never meant to imply anything about President Obama’s citizenship by claiming he was raised in Kenya, Hucksbees is now defending his comments on Portman, insisting he wasn’t trying to “slam” or “attack” her.

“Natalie is an extraordinary actor, very deserving of her recent Oscar and I am glad she will marry her baby’s father,” he said. “My comments were about the statistical reality that most single moms are very poor, under-educated, can’t get a job, and if it weren’t for government assistance, their kids would be starving to death. That’s the story that we’re not seeing, and it’s unfortunate that society often glorifies and glamorizes the idea of having children out of wedlock.”

Yeah, that makes your “non-attack” on Portman ever so much better. Thanks for clarifying that you weren’t attacking her, just all those “other” unwed mothers.

Huckles said he was actually “glad” Portman was planning to marry Benjamin Millepied, the father of her child, and that his comments weren’t meant to be deprecating.

“However, contrary to what the Hollywood media reported, I did not ‘slam’ or ‘attack’ Natalie Portman, nor did I criticize the hardworking single mothers in our country,” he claimed.

Ah yes, of course, the self-righteous diet expert was in no way attacking those hardworking single moms who get pregnant, just those slovenly non-working moms of color; you know the ones. The ones Huckleberry said were birthing the “75 percent of black kids … born out of wedlock” and the “61 percent of Hispanic kids.”

Please governor, whatever you do, don’t shut your pie hole. Every time you open it you’re just making it clearer and clearer how you’ve no business thinking you’d ever be a good fit in the Oval Office, and you’re continually giving us all a clear look into the hypocrisy which is the GOTP. No doubt you will always unflinchingly attack the “liberal” Hollywood hoes for being unwed mothers, while always giving the good right wing unwed mothers, like Bristol Palin, a pass.  It makes you wonder though how Huckabee would’ve treated a pregnant unwed, unemployed, betrothed mother from Galilee doesn’t it?

Repeal the 26th Amendment, or Ann Coulter Thinks 18-25 Year Olds Are Too Stupid to Vote?

The Banshee of the Right – Ann Coulter – has come out of her cave once again, bellowing that because young people between the ages of 18-25 voted overwhelmingly for President Obama they should be punished and the Congress should repeal the 26th Amendment to do so.

The 26th Amendment was adopted on 1 Jul 1971, limiting the minimum voting age in America to no more than 18, in response to young Americans being drafted into military service during the Vietnam War. It was widely felt that if young men were old enough to fight and die for their country, they were old enough to vote in its elections. And who was the first American President to put forth this socialistic idea of allowing the young to vote? President Dwight D. Eisenhower.

During his 7 Jan 1954 State of the Union address President Eisenhower said, “For years our citizens between the ages of 18 and 21 have, in time of peril, been summoned to fight for America. They should participate in the political process that produces this fateful summons. I urge Congress to propose to the States a constitutional amendment permitting citizens to vote when they reach the age of 18.” – Read more: State of the Union Address: Dwight D. Eisenhower (January 7, 1954) — Infoplease.com http://www.infoplease.com/t/hist/state-of-the-union/166.html#ixzz155JtcX4S

So, almost 40 years after its adoption Coulter now puts forth the idea that young Americans are too stupid to vote, simply because they’re not rushing in droves to vote for the likes of John McCain and Sarah Palin?

Coulter says, “Adopted in 1971 at the tail end of the Worst Generation’s anti-war protests, the argument for allowing children to vote was that 18-year-olds could drink and be conscripted into the military, so they ought to be allowed to vote.

“But 18-year-olds aren’t allowed to drink anymore. We no longer have a draft.”

The point Coulter misses on the draft was made by President Eisenhower, “For years our citizens between the ages of 18 and 21 have, in time of peril, been summoned to fight for America.”

Did you catch that Ann? “… have, in time of peril, been summoned to fight for America.” That would mean during a draft. Your statement that we no longer have a draft is either a deliberate lie or you’re just too stupid to know that every young man in America is required – by law – to register for selective service. That would of course be for moments when “… in time of peril” to be “… summoned to fight for America.”

Coulter continues her reasons for repeal, “Eighteen- to 26-year-olds don’t have property, spouses, children or massive tax bills. Most of them don’t even have jobs because the president they felt so good about themselves for supporting wrecked the economy.”

Just one more lie from the Banshee, “…the president they felt so good about themselves for supporting wrecked the economy.” I’m sorry? Did they vote for President Bush? The economy was already well off the road and in the ditch before President Obama was sworn into office. But, when you’re a right wing banshee who cares about trifling little facts like that?

President Obama Should Move to Egypt?

At this weekend’s annual collection of political has-beens, mishaps and wannabe’s, also known as the Conservative Political Action Conference or CPAC, right wing banshee Ann Coulter suggested, considering last November’s election, President Obama should mull over moving to Egypt because, “Nobody would complain about him being a Muslim then,” she said to cheers.

Problem for Coulter is, Obama was born in Hawaii and is a Christian.

Of course what’s really said is how Coulter’s completely misidentified. You see, Coulter isn’t Satan, and she isn’t even Mrs Satan, she’s the girl who runs into the 7-11 and buys Satan a pack of smokes.

Ann, it’s time to learn some new material, unless of course you’re playing to a group in Palin’s Alaska. This stick didn’t work during the 2008 elections, and the odds are it isn’t going to resonate with the majority of voters in the 2012 elections either.

If “The Islamic Brotherhood” Takes Power In Egypt, “Then It’s World War III”?

According to FOX PAC talking circus performer, Bill O’Rilley (aka Bill the Clown), “If the Islamic Brotherhood takes power In Egypt, then it’s World War III”. Really Billo? It’s World War III? How do you people at FOX PAC sleep at night? Between your gloom and doom 24/7, and lying through your teeth for 99.9% of that time, how can you sleep?

It appears FOX PAC is wishing and hoping that Egypt not only becomes President Obama’s Iran, but that it also becomes the next world war. You’ve got Reverend Beck proclaiming this is the real Archduke Ferdinand moment he’s been warning us all about (we’re up to the seventh so-called moment since President Obama took office), and now Billo the Clown is proclaiming it becomes the third world war if the Islamic Brotherhood take over the government in Egypt. But, have you noticed? Not one of the gloom and doomers at FOX, not Rush, nor any of the right wing talking bovines or politicians who have been, and continue to be, so critical of the President have offered one concrete suggestion of what he should have done, or of what he should do know.

I understand the right-wing crazies got used to the Bush Doctrine (well, all except Sarah Palin who doesn’t know what that is) and I’m sure their solution would be to invade Egypt, or at the very least start bombing Cairo and Alexandria if the Islamic Brotherhood takes over; how sad for them we now have a President who doesn’t share their view that America can, and should, preemptively invade or bomb anyone we choose.

Besides talking to Mubarak on the phone and giving him advice that he really needs to step down, that the United States gravy train is not running any more, what more can the President do? And, oh, a by-the-way right wingers, Mubarak is a dictator. You know, the same kind of person you yelled and screamed had to be pushed out of Iraq. “But he was our dictator!” “He was our kind of guy!” They would all no doubt collectively shout. But, what can the President do, that he isn’t already doing? We – as a people – would never stand for another nation interfering in our internal affairs. We – the United States – do not own the world, even if it’s true we are the only true super power in the world today, we don’t have the legal the authority, or the right, to tell other countries what to do, or to invade and bomb because we can. We, like the rest of the civilized world (basically anyone not glued to FOX PAC, and listening to right-wing talk radio all day) must watch as these events unfold, and then see what has filled the vacuum in Mubarak’s absence.

How Christians and Muslims Should Relate

Christians form a ring around Muslims to protect them during their prayers at demonstrations in Cairo, Egypt.

In Cairo, Christians protect Muslims while they pray; in America, Christians protest Muslims building a Community Center. Makes one ponder the question, “Am I my brother’s keeper?”

Could Bring Down the Republic?

The day after the terrible murders at a Congressional event in Tucson, Arizona, the Reverend Beck sent an e-mail to the ex-governor of Alaska Sarah Palin, according to Beck he wrote:

“Sarah, as you know, peace is always the answer. I know you are felling the same heat, if not much more on this. I want you to know you have my full support.”

He then encouraged her to get some protection because an “attempt on you could bring the Republic down.”

Excuse me? An attempt on Sarah Palin’s life “could bring the Republic down”? Really? It could “bring the Republic down”?

If one ever needed evidence of the delicate state of the sanity of those involved here, one wouldn’t ever have to search any further. To think, much less to say, that if someone attempted to kill Sarah Palin it could “bring the Republic down”?

Reverend Beck, just who do you think Sarah Palin is? In the 200+ year history of the Republic there have been 13 Presidents of whom we know there were assassination attempts, and at least four Presidents have been assassinated, and through all of that the Republic has remained strong. Through the assassination of Robert Kennedy, and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the Republic remained solvent. But you believe if there was an attempt on Sarah Palin’s life it could “bring down the Republic”?

I ask again, who do you think – believe – Sarah Palin is? She isn’t a Messiah any more than President Obama is the Messiah. She isn’t someone who is on an equal with the “Founders” of the nation.

You Mr. Beck are sadly delusional in her worth to the Republic and in your own worth to this country. She is a former mayor of a one horse town, and ex-governor who quit when she couldn’t take the heat, and you are a two-bit charlatan who can only remain popular as he feeds his fans one more lunatic idea after another. If an attempt was made on either of your seemingly self important, self indulgent, pathetic little lives; I assure you sir the Republic would not fall. It wouldn’t gasp, and it wouldn’t even shudder. It would remain strong and vibrant, and keep plugging along. If the deaths of men like Lincoln and Kennedy, and the attempted murders of Theodore and Franklin Roosevelt, Reagan and Obama haven’t brought down the Republic, your deaths would nary even send a ripple across the surface.

Take a look in the mirror Glenn; you ain’t all that and a bag of potato chips; and neither is she.

Progressives are “Enemies to God”?

According to Reverend Beck, progressives are now “enemies of God”. It simply wasn’t enough ( meaning he had to up the ante to earn better ratings) to call progressives socialists, communists and Nazis – which of course is a complete oxymoron, but then again so is Beck – now progressives are labeled “enemies of God”. And of course if Reverend Beck says it, well, then it must be so.

On his 21 Jan 11 edition of Premiere Radio Networks’ The Glenn Beck Program, Beck stated the “Founding Fathers” sought to promote enlightenment, empowerment and entrepreneurship.

“There are another set of founders in America — the founders of the progressive movement. They know this system as well,” Beck said. “And they also know all thought is creative. So now let’s just quickly look at what they’ve (progressives) done. They have distanced God from people. They have discredited him, distanced him, made him into a joke, denied his existence or, at best, just confused him with social justice and everything else — just confused him.”

This is the whole; they’re “enemies of God” stuff. After all progressives – according to Beck – have “discredited” God, “distanced” God, made God “into a joke”, “denied” God’s “existence”, or the best, progressives have “just confused” God “with social justice and everything else.” The “social justice” and “everything else” of course would be those evil parts of the progressive movement where we’re all supposed to help each other, help pull each other up and lift one another, nothing like the conservative view of Christianity, which is screw your neighbor, if you want to find a righteous man look for a rich man, after all if he’s rich God must have blessed him with it, and of course that means if you’re poor you must be sinful. Let’s just forget about the whole Sermon on the Mount, and that camel fitting through the eye of the needle nonsense.

Reverend Beck is as obtuse as they come when it comes to the subject of God or religion. He chooses to ignore all the best tenants of Christianity because they get in his way, just as they get in the way of Limbaugh, Hannity et al. If the top 2% (meaning those who have the majority of the wealth in our country) spent more time creating jobs and helping to take care of the poor, then the government wouldn’t have too. Unfortunately their credo is becoming more and more, (in my very rudimentary Latin) “Ut quod mei est mei, quod ut quod vestri est mei, sic combibo is sursum” or “That which is mine is mine, and that which yours is mine, so suck it up”.
