Social Security and Medicare have weakened us?

This week there’s been a lot of speculation surrounding Marco Rubio being the shoe-in for the Republican Tea Party (GOTP) Vice Presidential pick? Wow, really? Go with another obvious ploy to try to win a minority faction the GOTP has no hope of ever capturing? I mean sure, Rubio has Tea Party credentials, is Latino, and hails from Florida; but the fact you pick a Latino doesn’t absolve the GOTP of its virulent anti-Hispanic, anti-immigrant rhetoric and theatrics.

The fact he’s a Tea Party favorite scores you nothing unless you’re Mitt Romney and need to kiss and make-up with the Tea Partistas, but being a Roman Catholic isn’t going to score you any points with the far-right evangelical fringe – which happens to make up a lot of the Tea Party. Yeah a Mormon and a Roman Catholic wins you zip. If you’re Rick Perry you don’t need to garner Tea Party votes, so does anyone really think you need Rubio for Tea Partista support; really?

Can Rubio deliver Florida? Well, considering he wouldn’t be in office today if the Democratic vote hadn’t been split, and considering he only polls at 43% with most Floridians, his ability to deliver a state that went to President Obama in 2008 is questionable, especially considering its high senior population and his latest remarks about how Social Security and Medicare have weakened the United States; it’s just one more case of a GOTP politician throwing the Greatest Generation under the bus – thanks for saving the world, but you’ve weakened it?

During a speech at the Reagan library concerning Social Security and Medicare Marco said the following, “These programs actually weakened us as a people. You see, almost forever, it was institutions in society that assumed the role of taking care of one another.”

It’s almost as though GOTP politicians today think only the people at the event will ever hear what they’re saying. Did he really think no one would pick up on that kind of comment? Has he forgotten the whole Paul Ryan wants to throw Grandma off the cliff mess from earlier this year?

This kind of Draconian speech appeals to only one group of voters today, the far-right Tea Partista type. The ones who want to dismantle federal government to pre-1860 standards; the type who think FEMA needs to go away, and that Grandma and Grandpa should have planned better for their retirement years. But, where it’s not going to play is with thinking moderates, the group any GOTP ticket needs in order to win in 2012, and trust me, if Rubio’s on the ticket the sound bite will be used until people’s ears are bleeding from hearing it; this will come back to bite a ticket with Marco on it.

Latest 2012 Presidential Polls (02 Sep 11 Edition)

As we move into September, there begins to be a slight chill in the air at times, and here are the most current 2012 presidential election poll numbers.

FOX PAC conducted a very questionable poll 29-30 Aug 11 on who would be the Republican/Tea Party (GOTP) nominee if it all ended today; the poll is questionable because it’s FOX – nothing more needs to be said to clarify than that, it’s FOX:

Perry 26, Romney 18, Palin 8, Paul 7, Bachmann 4, Cain 4, Gingrich 3, Santorum 3 and Huntsman 1 …

Reverend Ricky Perry appears to be lengthening his lead over Mittens, with the Ice Queen polling in third – even though she still hasn’t announced she’s running – but hey, these are FOX viewers, so when has reality ever mattered? Paul is running a fourth spot while Krazy is quickly plummeting off the political cliff joining the ranks of the Newter and the Pizza Man, who has never met a Muslim he hasn’t disliked, as Santorum and Huntsman still bring up the rear.

In Iowa – according to Magellan Strategies – Perry has jumped in front with 24 displacing Bachmann to 22, Mitt 19; Paul 9; Cain 6, Gingrich 4, Santorum 4 and Huntsman 1…

In New Hampshire – Magellan Strategies: Mitt 36; Rev Ricky 18; Paul 14; Krazy 10; Cain 3, Huntsman 3 and Gingrich 2…

According to Rasmussen – which is always skewed at least five points towards the conservative candidate – anyone can verify that claim, just take the time to compare Rasmussen with other polls, and you’ll see it polls at least five points to the right every time; with that said however, if the general election were held today:

President Obama 41/Perry 44

President Obama 43/Romney 39

President Obama 46/Bachmann 38

President Obama 42/Cain 35

These five weren’t even mentioned in the last poll:

President Obama /Paul

President Obama / Palin

President Obama /Gingrich

President Obama /Huntsman

President Obama /Santorum

So, if the GOTP nomination circus – and the general election – had both ended this week Reverend Ricky would be the GOTP candidate, and he would be the next President.

GOTP raffles off Glock in Gabrielle Giffords’ district?

Just when you thought Arizona couldn’t possibly become more tactless, according to the Huffington Post, the Pima County Republican Tea Party (GOTP) is raffling off a Glock 23 handgun to raise money for get-out-the-vote efforts in Democratic Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords’ Arizona district. What’s the big deal some will ask? The congresswoman continues to recover after being critically wounded in a mass shooting in January that left six people dead and 13 injured. You may remember that Giffords was holding a “Congress at your corner” event in Tucson when a shooter open fired with a Glock 19.

An August edition of the Pima County GOTP’s newsletter advertises that supporters can purchase raffle tickets for $10 to win the .40 caliber handgun.

“That’s right, for just 10 dollars this gun could be yours,” the newsletter reads. The Pima County GOTP plans to sell 125 raffle tickets and the winner will also receive three 12-round magazines, adjustable grips and a case.

Greg Harris, executive director of the Pima GOTP, told Hotsheet the firearm was in his organization’s possession prior to the January shooting.

Asked whether the raffle would appear insensitive, Harris also pointed out that Giffords herself owns a Glock and has been a strong gun advocate. As Hotsheet pointed out after the tragic Tucson event, gun ownership is a deeply ingrained part of Arizona culture. Owning a gun simply “is Arizona, it is the West, it is the culture,” Carol Ruh, president of the Arizona Women’s Shooting Associates, told Hotsheet.

Wow, really? It’s the West? It’s the culture? It’s the ignorance? It’s the insensitivity? It’s today’s Republican Tea Party? Yeah, all of the above, but especially the latter; can you imagine someone in Columbine, CO selling a handgun for a fund raiser? Only the GOTP, and only in Arizona would anyone think this is normal and OK. Well, maybe in Wasilla it would be considered OK too.

Veteran’s benefits won’t be slashed?

President Barack Obama pledged on Tuesday that there won’t be any cutting of benefits for America’s veterans while he’s in the White House.

Addressing The American Legion’s 93rd Annual National Convention in Minneapolis, the President said veterans wouldn’t bear the brunt of federal cutbacks, in spite of the fact veteran’s benefits are clearly in the cross hairs of the Republican Tea Party (GOTP) controlled House and its fiscal crusade.

“As a nation, we’re facing tough choices as we put our fiscal house in order,” the President said, getting a standing ovation from the crowd of thousands in the process. “But I want to be absolutely clear: We cannot, we must not, and we will not balance the budget on the backs of our veterans. And as commander-in-chief, I won’t allow it.

“As today’s war’s end, as our troops come home, we’re reminded once more of our responsibilities to all who have served, for the bond between our forces and our citizens is a sacred trust. And for me and my administration, upholding that trust isn’t just a matter of policy; it’s not about politics. It’s a moral obligation. That’s why my very first budget included the largest percentage increase to the VA budget in the past 30 years. So far, we’re on track to have increased funding for Veterans Affairs by 30 percent. And because we passed advance appropriations, when Washington politics threatened to shut down the government last spring, the veteran’s medical care that you count on was safe.”

The President also offered a plan to help revive the economy through the hiring of veterans who have and are returning from deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan.

“We’re going to offer more help with career development and job searches,” he said. “I’ve directed DoD and the VA to create a reverse boot camp to help our newest veterans prepare for civilian jobs and translate their exceptional military skills into industry-accepted licenses and credentials. And today I’m calling on every state to pass legislation that makes it easier for our veterans to get the credentials and the jobs for which they are so clearly qualified. This needs to happen, and it needs to happen now.

“We’re encouraging the private sector to do its part. I’ve challenged companies across America to hire or train 100,000 unemployed veterans or their spouses. This builds on the commitments that many companies have already made as part of the Joining Forces campaign championed by (Michelle Obama) and the vice president’s spouse, Dr. Jill Biden. I’ve proposed a Returning Heroes Tax Credit for companies that hire unemployed veterans and a Wounded Warrior Tax Credit for companies that hire unemployed veterans with a disability. When Congress returns from recess, this needs to be at the top of the agenda. For the sake of our veterans, for the sake of our economy, we need these veterans working and contributing and creating the new jobs and industries that will keep America competitive in the 21st century.”

The President also addressed the needed care of U.S. service members when they return home – specifically those dealing with hidden wounds such as post-traumatic stress and mental illness.

“We’re working aggressively to address another signature wound of this war, which has led too many fine troops and veterans to take their own lives – post-traumatic stress disorder,” he said. “We’re continuing to make major investments: improving outreach and suicide prevention, hiring and training more mental health counselors and treating more veterans than ever before.

“The days when depression and PTSD were stigmatized must end. That’s why I made the decision to start sending condolence letters to the families of service members who take their lives while deployed in a combat zone. These American patriots did not die because they were weak. They were warriors. And every man and woman in uniform, and every veteran, needs to know that your nation will be there to help you stay strong.”

President Obama told Legionnaires U.S. service members serving in Iraq will be home by the start of 2012, while the drawdown in Afghanistan will continue.

“Having ended our combat mission in Iraq and removed more than 100,000 troops so far, we’ll remove the rest of our troops by the end of this year and end that war,” he said. “Having put al Qaeda on the path to defeat, we won’t relent until the job is done. Having started to drawdown our forces in Afghanistan, we’ll bring home 33,000 troops by next summer and bring home more troops in the coming years. As our mission transitions from combat to support, Afghans will take responsibility for their own security, and the longest war in American history will come to a responsible end.”

Those men and women who have served in both campaigns are deserving of a grateful nation’s praise, the President said.

“Young captains, sergeants and lieutenants have assumed responsibilities once reserved for more senior commanders, reminding us that in an era when so many other institutions have shirked their obligations, the men and women of the United States military welcome responsibility,” he said. “In a decade of war, they have borne an extraordinary burden, with more than two million of our service members deploying to the warzones. Hundreds of thousands have deployed again and again, year after year. Never before has our nation asked so much of our all-volunteer force – that 1 percent of Americans who wears the uniform.

“Through their service, their sacrifice, their astonishing record of achievement, our forces have earned their place among the greatest of generations.”

The President said those men and women who come home injured and file a claim with VA shouldn’t have to wait for that claim to be adjudicated, and that the current backlog of VA claims remains a priority for his administration.

“Now, I know that over the past year, the backlog has actually grown, due to new claims from Agent Orange,” he said. “But let me say this, and I know Secretary Shinseki agrees: When our veterans who fought for our country have to fight just to get the benefits you’ve earned – that’s unacceptable. So this is going to remain a priority. We’re going to keep hiring new claims processors, keep investing in new paperless systems and keep moving ahead with our innovation competition in which our dedicated VA employees are developing new ways to process your claims faster – not in months, but days. The bottom line is this: Your claims need to be processed quickly and accurately, the first time. And we’re not going to rest until we get this done.”

The President concluded his remarks saying he will address the rest of the nation next week with a plan for creating jobs and reducing the nation’s deficit. “We Americans have been through tough times before, much tougher than these,” he said. “And we didn’t just get through them, we emerged stronger than before. Not by luck. Not by chance. But because in hard times, Americans don’t quit; we don’t give up. We summon that spirit that says, ‘When we come together, when we choose to move forward together, as one people, there’s absolutely nothing we can’t achieve.'”

At a time when the uber-conservatives, who bravely waved the flag and sent our young men and women off to two wars now threaten to cut – and even discontinue – their benefits, it’s nice to know the Command-in-Chief says he has veteran’s backs.

If he holds true to what he’s pledged it will go a long way to building bridges between veterans and the Democratic Party; but if he gives in to uber-conservatives and cuts veteran’s benefits he will gravely damage not only his own prestige and that of the office of the President, but he may forever weaken an already ailing relationship between groups like the American Legion and the Democrats.

What’s amazing is how veterans seem to hold fast to the GOTP and its candidate’s even though time-and-time again they throw veterans under the bus. Any veteran who votes for any of the current crop of GOTP presidential wanabees or for uber-conservative Congressional candidates votes against their own future. The GOTP isn’t strong on defense and it has proven over-and-over that it doesn’t care about veterans.

OK Conservatives, Put Up or Shut Up

The following is making the rounds posted by conservatives on Facebook, “NYC Policemen and Firefighters are not invited to the 10th anniversary of 9/11 at Ground Zero….. Apparently there isn’t enough room. They weren’t invited on that day in 2001 either; THEY JUST SHOWED UP! Please re-post if you think those heroes belong there more than the Politicians do.”

Well, let’s see, an estimated 91,000 police, firefighters and other first responders helped with the search and rescue efforts in the wake of the September 11th attacks, isn’t it interesting that the same uber-conservatives who wouldn’t vote to extend benefits to these brave man and women now have their nickers in a knot because there’s not enough room for all 91,000 of them to attend the 9-11 Memorial dedication and ten year commemoration of the attacks.

To those on the right, enough already with politicizing 9-11; put your money where your mouth is; enough with your phoney uber-patriotism.

First responders aren’t being invited because no one on the left cares; there simply isn’t enough room for everyone. Yes the President is attending, and so is Bush and Giuliani; but seriously, give it a rest. Your flag waving when it suits you is tiresome, you cheer the first responders and soldiers as they rush in and then cut their benefits after they stumble out of the debris and from the battlefields.

It wasn’t – and isn’t – the President and Democratic Party that refused to extend first responder benefits and that continues to threaten to cut VA benefits – it’s the uber-patriots of the Republican Tea Party. Again, I say, put your money where your mouth is GOTP, raise taxes on the top 2% and take care of those who take care of us. It’s time to put up or shut up.

9/11: White House issues remembrance guidelines?

When the words 9-11are uttered they conjure up a variety of mixed and poignant feelings to all who remember that fall day; this year marks the tenth anniversary of the terrorist attack against the United States, an attack which led eventually to two wars, more than 5,000 American dead, tens of thousands additional American wounded, hundreds of thousands of Afghan and Iraqi killed and wounded and trillions of dollars thrown away.

White House guidance on commemoration plans – for the government – call for a “positive” and “forward-looking” message with minimum reference to Al Qaeda, the New York Times reports.

Commemorations should honour victims of global terror, they say, as citizens of over 90 countries were killed.

OK, I have to admit that when I first heard about the White House guidance on how the nation should commemorate the attacks I was a little taken aback; however, having thought about it, I agree with the President that it’s time to look to the future while still remembering the honored dead. I believe it’s also time to stop hating and to down play Al Qaeda; I’m one of those who’ve never bought into the theory that Al-Qaeda was some sort of well-oiled terror machine; to me they’ve always been a pack of punks hiding out in caves who managed to pull off a terrorists dream attack against the United States, but nothing more. They’re still a bunch of cave dwelling punks and they’re still coming out into light every now and then to lash out and kill and maim.

Following the attacks we invaded Afghanistan with the thought of capturing or killing Osama Bin Laden – the purported master mind of the attack – and to punish the uber-conservative Islamic Taliban government of Afghanistan which had allowed Al Qaeda to shelter and train there; but we weren’t long into the invasion when the Bush/Cheney administration became distracted with Iraq. Bush sent the country into a second war based on lies and manipulated intelligence reports. The cost was enormous both in casualty rates and in treasure squandered to ostensibly settle a Bush family score with Saddam Hussein. Bush left office with one of the lowest presidential approval ratings in history; a ruined economy and no Bin Laden to show for his wasted efforts.

A few months ago President Obama ordered Navy Seals to do what Bush/Cheney could never do – to kill Bin Laden. He was taken out; hiding in Pakistan behind one of his wives, and his body was unceremoniously dumped into the ocean. I admit I was more than a little happy when I heard they had capped him in the head.

So, now the boogey man is gone, and it’s time for the President to move the country past 9-11, past the terror of that day, past the hate filled vilifying of everything Islam, and past the wasteful wars of Bush/Cheney.

Accordingly, the White House has said commemoration plans will place emphasis on the theme of resilience, and warned of future attacks; while highlighting the steps taken to break up plots against the US since 9/11 and praising foreign allies in the fight against terror.

On Tuesday, President Obama reiterated his pledge to support the “9/11 generation” of veterans in a speech to the American Legion in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

“They were there, on duty, that September morning, having enlisted in a time of peace, but they instantly transitioned to a war-footing,” the President said.

The President – unlike the Republican Tea Party (GOTP) – supports those who fought, and bled since 9-11. He is opposed to cuts in Veterans Administration (VA) spending and believes it’s the country’s obligation to help those who stepped forward to defend freedom following the attacks. The GOTP slate of presidential hopefuls on the other hand have all said they support massive federal spending cuts including cuts in veteran’s benefits. It’s the typical uber-right response to things. While they’re sending young men and women off to war they’re filling the air with platitudes of support and reverence, but after those same young men and women return, having borne the terrors and pain and suffering of war, having done their bidding, they discard them like broken toys.

It’s time to remember the fallen, and those who have fought since the attacks. It’s time to ensure the first responders who rushed into harm’s way are taken care of and supported; it’s time to care for the wounds of our veterans, and to support their transition back into the civilian world; it’s time to move past the hate and to begin to look to the future. Remaining always ready and always vigilant but doing so with confidence and not the fear inspired by those on the right; it’s time to start beating some of our swords into plow shares.

Cheney’s Still Justifying Torture?

The Associated Press (AP) is reporting that Former Vice President Dick Cheney says there’s no contradiction in advocating harsh interrogation tactics against suspected U.S. enemies and opposing those practices when used against American citizens.

Excuse me? Cheney is insane; anyone who thinks the United States can torture prisoners and then complain when someone tortures Americans is certifiable. This is one of the biggest reasons why – up until the dip stick brothers took office aka Bush/Cheney – why American personnel didn’t torture prisoners, along with the fact it’s in violation of US and International laws; such as the Geneva Convention, of which the US is a signatory.

Cheney was asked about a hypothetical case in which Iran would decide to use waterboarding on an American suspected of spying.

Cheney replies, “I think we would object on the grounds that we have obligations to our citizens.”

And how far would any of our complaints go now? Absolutely no where because Cheney and Company thought it was a great idea; of course what would expect from someone who was too busy collecting deferments to ever serve in uniform?

Cheney was asked on NBC’s “Today” show if he was embracing a double-standard, he said, “These are not American citizens.”

Again, Cheney has proven he’s insane. IT’S IN VIOLATION OF THE FRICKING GENEVA CONVENTION MORON! I – and countless others who currently wear, or have worn, our country’s uniforms – used to be able to proudly say, “American soldiers don’t torture,” but we can’t say it anymore.

In the interview, Cheney also conceded he’d been a lightning rod for criticism during the Bush administration. “I’m Darth Vader,” he said.

News flash Skippy, Darth Vader wasn’t the hero, he brought countless suffering upon millions and was the epitome of evil – oh wait, that describes you perfectly, please just go away. Oh, and by-the-by, I don’t think your explanation is playing very well to anyone who doesn’t watch FOX – and I’m pretty sure, I mean it’s just a guess, God doesn’t watch FOX; the whole concept of a Rupert Murdoch news agency flies in the face of that whole bearing false witness thing …

Glenn Beck Embraces Israeli Terrorist Organization?

Media Matters is reporting that “Professor” Glenn Beck is promoting the organization of a far-right Israeli extremist who has ties to the late Rabbi Meir Kahane’s terrorist Kach movement.

Last week, Beck held his “pro-Israel” event near the Temple Mount, a sacred site in Jerusalem to peoples of many faiths including Muslims, Christians, and Jews. It’s the site where the Solomon’s and Herrod’s Jewish temples once existed and where the Islamic Dome of the Rock and Al Aqsa Mosque now stand. It is revered as the site where Abraham took his son Isaac when called upon by God to sacrifice his only son.

Shortly before the “event”, Professor Beck broadcast a brief feature about the mount, which discussed plans by “religious Jews” to “build a Third Temple” there. Beck’s broadcast promoted the work of an organization called the Temple Institute, a group allegedly “dedicated to every aspect of the Biblical commandment to build the Holy Temple of G-d on Mount Moriah in Jerusalem”.

The group declares its short-term goal is to rekindle the flame of the Holy Temple in the hearts of mankind through education, and that its long-term goal is “to do all in our limited power to bring about the building of the Holy Temple in our time.” The Jerusalem Post however describes the Institute as “a once-marginal organization that has been gaining increasing prominence.” According to a January 25, 2000, piece published in Ha’aretz, “most” of the Institute’s members are “extreme right wing.”

The group’s founder – and current head of the Institute – is Rabbi Yisrael Ariel, who, according to according to the Jerusalem Report, “ran for Knesset on Meir Kahane’s racist Kach party ticket in 1981, and has argued that Jewish law does not allow Christians or Muslims to live in the Land of Israel.” The Rabbi – it appears – was quite close to Kahane, and according to a 1990 Jerusalem Post article, Ariel “served as No.2 to Kahane in the early ’80s” before Kach was banned from Israeli elections. Ariel was seen as a potential “spiritual successor” to Kahane.

According to Media Matters, in his book, The End of Days, historian Gershom Gorenberg explained that among the aims of the Kach party “was making sexual relations between a Jew and an Arab a capital crime” and that “the party’s eventual goal was the expulsion of all Arabs from Israel and the occupied territories.” According to Gorenberg, “Kahane’s small group of aggressive followers splattered Jerusalem walls with posters demanding that Israel ‘erase the mosques form the Temple Mount.’ ”

Israeli police broke up an alleged plot – in 1983 – by armed Kahanists and other extremists to forcibly seize the Temple Mount. According to Reuters, “Police said the group was inspired by Rabbi Yisrael Ariel, who [in 1982] was involved in nationalist resistance to the Israeli withdrawal from Sinai.”

According to a March 12, 1983, Washington Post article, some of the alleged conspirators were arrested at Ariel’s home, “Jerusalem police, alerted in advance, last night broke up what they described as a well-organized attempt by orthodox and militantly nationalistic Jews to take over and establish a ‘settlement’ on the Temple Mount, a site holy to both Jews and Moslems in Jerusalem’s Old City.”

At the time of the arrest, police officials said some of those arrested included followers of Rabbi Meir Kahane, and that some of those arrested, including the soldiers, were armed with automatic weapons in preparation for the takeover attempt.

Ariel has since tried to distance himself and the Temple Institute from those who seek to use terrorism to destroy the mosques in order to rebuild the Jewish Temple. ”We don’t want to blow up the mosque,” he told The New York Times in 1989. ”Our intention is to do everything that we can within the law. We’ll prepare whatever we can so that we can eventually worship there again.”

But, if one applies the logic espoused by Beck and other uber-conservative talking heads when they repeatedly attacked President Obama over his alleged connections to William Ayers – once a terrorist, always a terrorist, and thus Beck’s Rabbi buddy and his organization must still be terrorists; because you can’t have your cake and eat it too Professor.

Media Matters reports that since its inception in 1969, members of the Jewish Defense League and related Kahanist organizations have allegedly carried out a relentless campaign of violence, culminating in JDL-member Baruch Goldstein’s 1994 massacre of 29 Muslims in Hebron. In 1997, the U.S. State Department officially designated Kach and Kahane Chai as “foreign terrorist organizations.” The State Department noted that both groups “were declared to be terrorist organizations in March 1994 by the Israeli Cabinet under the 1948 Terrorism Law.

So, of all the groups, and of all the individuals, Glenn Beck could pick to affiliate himself within Israel he chooses an uber-conservative, militant, terrorist organization? Beck is either proving himself – once again – to be completely obtuse and not understanding things nearly as clearly as he likes to portray, or, he knows full well who Rabbi Yisrael Ariel is, and what his organization is. Of course, in the right-wing nut job world of Beck and his devotees, Israelis can’t be terrorists, and killing Muslims is all according to “God’s plan”. But, then again, Beck also claims to be receiving “revelation” and “inspiration” from God, and that makes whomever he hangs out with OK; at least in the twisted mind of Professor Beck.

Two U.S. Citizens Have Been Charged With Starting Arizona Wildfire John McCain and FOX PAC Claimed Was Started By Illegals?

According to Reuters two cousins who allegedly left a campfire unattended have been charged with starting Arizona’s largest ever wildfire that torched more than 800 square miles of wilderness prosecutors said on Wednesday.

Caleb Joshua Malboeuf, 26, and David Wayne Malboeuf, 24, were charged with starting the so-called Wallow Fire on May 29, in the Apache Sitgreaves National Forest in eastern Arizona, the U.S. Attorney’s office said in a news release. The Malboeufs are United States citizens.

But wait just a minute, revered Republican Tea Party (GOTP) Senator John McCain – backed up by the “fair and balanced” folks of FOX PAC – claimed over-and-over the fire was started by illegal immigrants hiding out in the Arizona wilderness.

The Malboeuf cousins, both from southern Arizona, have been charged on five counts including causing timber to burn, leaving a fire unattended and unextinguished and building a campfire without removing all surrounding flammable material.

During June as several wildfires raged in the Mexico border state, McCain claimed there was “substantial evidence that some of these fires have been caused by people who have crossed our border illegally.”

McCain really needs to keep his pie hole shut on just about all things, and he really needs to think about retiring before he embarrasses himself beyond recovery – if that hasn’t already happened.

But McCain wasn’t alone in his claims as multiple FOX PAC personalities also made the same claim. Of course anytime anything happens you can bet FOX PAC will blame one of three parties, illegal aliens, Muslims or President Obama – we’re still waiting to see who gets the blame for Hurricane Irene.

FOX is not a news agency, it’s the propaganda wing for the GOTP and everyone knows it even if conservatives and viewers of FOX PAC won’t admit it. Clearly the reporting on FOX is becoming more-and-more inflammatory, biased and anything but fair and balanced.

Relief from Irene Tied to Budget Cuts?

Once again Republican Tea Party (GOTP) Majority Leader Eric Cantor has shown what a true putz he really is, saying that any federal relief to repair damage and offset costs of dealing with Hurricane Irene should be tied to – or funded by – cuts elsewhere.

But wait Cantor isn’t alone in this way of thinking, Congressman Scott Garrett is in agreement, claiming – through a spokesperson that it’s the “responsible thing to do.”

“With $16 trillion in debt and budget deficits as far as the eye can see, the last thing we should be doing is spending money we don’t have,” Garrett spokesman Ben Veghte said.

Yeah, because if there’s a natural disaster – which no one can predict, and for which you can’t budget money ahead of time – no doubt Garrett wanted to say, “We should cut spending to wasteful programs like Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare.” Because you know there’s no way they would ever suggest cutting money to defense, or to Congressional operations.

Democratic Congressman Bill Pascrell disagrees with the dynamic dimwits saying that emergency funding can – and should be – handled as it has been in the past, with emergency funding provided outside the normal budget process.

“I’ve always seen, whether it was a big fire out on the West Coast or a calamity in one of the Northern states during a snowstorm, America’s always been there, Congress has always been there,” he said. “Mr. Cantor can’t even run his own caucus. I don’t know how you can expect him to say anything reasonable or sane. This storm isn’t hitting Democrats, it’s not hitting Republicans, it’s hitting all of us.”

Democratic Senator Frank Lautenberg said in a statement it was “unconscionable that anyone would hold up emergency aid for this storm over ideology. People are going to need urgent help, and I will fight like the devil to deliver it.”

Earlier this year, after tornadoes ravaged the Midwest and south, a bill was approved practically along party lines in the GOTP dominated House seeking to cut spending, including about $450 million allocated to Amtrak for upgrades in Central Jersey, to replenish the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Disaster Relief Fund.

Fortunately, like most of the ludicrous bills coming from the Neverland of the GOTP controlled House, it hasn’t seen the light of day in the Democratic controlled Senate; but, the Federal Railroad Administration has since approved Amtrak’s project, making it more difficult for Congress to cut the funding.

According to the Associated Press (AP), FEMA’s disaster fund covers a variety of costs, including emergency workers’ overtime, repairs to public works such as roads and utilities, and temporary housing for victims. Fifteen New Jersey counties buried by a post-Christmas blizzard last year, for example, received $19 million this year from the disaster fund.

Cantor and company want to make every dime political hoping top score points with FOX PAC Americans by demonstrating how fiscally responsible the GOTP is compared to the Democratic Party; but all they’re doing is showing how heartless, reckless and moronic the GOTP is. For eight years these same members of Congress funded Bush’s war off budget pouring billions of dollars into Afghanistan and Iraq, and not one of them insisted on cutting spending somewhere else to do that, and they cut taxes – a fundamental economic blunder when fighting a war – but now they want to cut the budget to pay for disaster relief to Americans? I think they’re going to find a boomerang effect from voters in 2012 and then they’ll realize they’ve greatly overplayed their hand.
