O’Donnell criticizes Romney’s faith?

According to news reports MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell has decided it’s OK to go after Republican Tea Party (GOTP) presidential hopeful Willard Mitt Romney on the basis of his religion and last week he called Mormonism an “invented religion.”

Reportedly O’Donnell criticized the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, making insanely inaccurate claims about the church’s founding and attacking Willard for believing in Mormonism.

“Mormonism was created by a guy in upstate New York in 1830 when he got caught having sex with the maid and explained to his wife that God told him to do it,” O’Donnell said on his MSNBC show. “Forty-eight wives later, Joseph Smith’s lifestyle was completely sanctified in the religion he invented to go with it. Which Mitt Romney says he believes.”

O’Donnell, whom I thought was brighter than this, has stepped off in Glenn Beck zone of television commentary.

I hate to say it, and I do mean I hate to say it, but I find myself agreeing with FOX PAC’s Bill O’Reilly, who responded to O’Donnell’s “smear” comments by saying if O’Donnell had done the same about Islam or another religion, he would’ve been immediately fired. While I agree with O’Reilly partly, I disagree partly, because if O’Donnell said the same things about Islam he’d have been offered a show at FOX.

O’Donnell clearly knows there’s no religious test for holding political office in the United States, and he also knows a cheap shot when he throws one; with all there is to criticize Willard Mitt Romney on he chooses to pick on his faith?

It’s beneath him, and the way O’Donnell’s going after the Mormon Church one can only assume he has a monstrous size axe to grind; whatever the problem, it’s not good journalism; it’s not good political commentary; and it’s not good to leap into the political gutter next to the race baiting, religious haters.

Latest 2012 Presidential Polls – 09 April 12 Edition

So, not only have conservative Wisconsinites trudged to their polling places and cast votes for their “favorite” candidate in their state’s “Winner Take All” Republican Tea Party (GOTP) Primary (42 delegates), but also DC residents (19 delegates) and Marylanders (37 delegates) also cast votes on 3 Apr 12. For Richard John Santorum it may have been his last real stand as Willard Mitt Romney’s now crossed the half way mark on his path to possibly, maybe, supposedly eventual victory.

In the last round of primary battles: Romney walked away victorious in all three virtually “winner take all” primaries, amassing 83 delegates to Santorum’s 6; Gingrich and Uncle Ron earned zero delegates.

The remaining primaries tend to favor Romney, but if Santorum can simply keep Willard from winning more than 33% of the delegates in each and thus prevent him from winning the nomination outright, perhaps he can send everything into a brokered convention and somehow come out on top; of course his “other” strategy may simply be to weaken Romney enough that he loses to President Obama in the general election making it easier for Santorum to run again in 2016 as Willard’s political career will be effectually over. For Santorum he could then point to how another moderate was beaten by the Democratic Party, and better place himself in contention.

The regular season primary records for the GOTP “Confederacy of Dunces” currently stands: Romney 21; Santorum 10; Gingrich 2 and “What’s His Name” 0.

The GOTP Delegate Count (1,144 needed to win) to date is: Romney 566; Santorum 263; Gingrich 140 and Paul 67.

The current GOTP Popular Vote Count is:

Romney 4,128,980

Santorum 2,850,633

Gingrich 2,212,048

Paul 1,079,897

Yes, while it remains true Willard’s leading with 4,128,998 the really harsh reality is more votes have still been cast for anyone but him; total of all other votes cast = 6,142,578; yeah he may be winning, but at the end of the day, when he realizes more fellow conservatives would rather have anyone but him, it still sucks to be Mitt.

Nationally, the GOTP Nomination according to the latest Gallup Tracking poll of registered voters conducted 3 – 7 Apr 12: Romney 42; Santorum 25; Paul 11 and Gingrich 9 with 12% unconvinced any of these guys can do the job.

So, how do the Political Marx Brothers stack up against the President? The latest Rasmussen Tracking poll of registered voters conducted 6 – 8 Apr 12; if the general election were held today:

President Obama 46/Romney 44

President Obama 47/Santorum 41

No one cares how Harpo and Groucho would fare because they’re not even close …

So, as in the many weeks since this wild ride began, if the GOTP clown car had finally came to a wild spinning stop, and the general election was held today, Willard Mitt Romney would be the GOTP nominee, and he’d lose to President Obama in the general election.

Harvard grad Romney says the President spent too much time there?

According to news reports Republican Tea Party (GOTP) “presumptive” presidential candidate Willard Mitt Romney is accusing President Obama of having spent “too much time at Harvard“.

It’s pretty funny considering Willard’s also a fellow Harvard graduate, and actually spent more time there than the President.

But hey class, let’s look at the facts; according to records, Willard enrolled in a four-year program at Harvard in 1971, eventually earning a joint JD and MBA and graduating cum laude – Latin meaning “with honor” – in 1975. President Obama began attending Harvard Law School in 1988, where he spent three years, eventually becoming president of the Harvard Law Review before graduating magna cum laude – Latin meaning “with great honor” – and receiving his JD in 1991. The President graduated with higher honors than Willard, and did it in less time; of course Willard earned an MBA with that additional year, but clearly math wasn’t part of his business degree, since four is greater than three.

It’s funny how Willard’s repeatedly trying to paint the President as an ivory tower elitist, first as though that’s a bad thing, and second when he’s one, and spent more time there than the President.

Was he for an ivy league education before he was against it? It’s OK for some, but not for others?

Just one more oops moment for the Romney campaign; someone on Willard’s staff really should be checking these kind of facts before allowing the candidate to repeatedly look like a moron – just saying.

And while we’re on this topic, there’s a big difference between a young black man from a lower middle class single parent family working his way to Harvard, and the rich white kid who has it handed to him; so, I’m sorry, who’s the “elitist” Willard?

Latest 2012 Presidential Polls – (pre-Wisconsin Primary) 2 April 12 Edition

So, the topsy turvy world known as the Republican Tea Party (GOTP) presidential primary may finally be coming to a close (or not). Tomorrow conservative Wisconsinites will trudge to their polling places and cast votes for their “favorite” candidate in their state’s Winner Take All Primary with its 42 delegates. For Richard John Santorum this is one of his final – if not the final – opportunities to stick it to Willard Mitt Romney.

Not an easy thing to do since the latest PPP (D) poll results of likely voters conducted 31 Mar – 1 Apr 12 is anything but rosy for him: Romney 43; Santorum 36; Paul 11 and Gingrich 8.

After Wisconsin the remaining primaries tend to favor Romney, but if Santorum can simply keep Willard from winning more than an averaged 33% of the delegates and thus prevent him from winning the nomination outright, perhaps he can send everything into a brokered convention and somehow come out on top; of course his “other” strategy may simply be to weaken Romney enough that he loses to President Obama making it easier for Santorum to run again in 2016 as Willard’s political career will be effectually over.

Latest 2012 Presidential Polls – 29 Mar 12 Edition

So, the up and down, twisting and turning roller coaster ride also known as the 2012 Republican Tea Party (GOTP) presidential primary tour continues rather than abating with Richard John “Rick” Santorum winning the Louisiana Proportional Primary (46 delegates) with 49% (10 delegates); Willard Mitt Romney 27.7% (5 delegates) and the other two guys were there somewhere.

Next up is Wisconsin’s Winner Take All Primary – 3 Apr 12 (42 delegates) where in order to maintain some kind of believability Santorum must win, becoming – according to polls – an uphill battle: new Marquette University poll of likely voters conducted 22 – 25 Mar 12; Romney 39 and Santorum 31.

The regular season primary records for the Confederacy of Dunces stands: Romney 21; Santorum 10; Gingrich 2 and “What’s His Name” 0.

The GOTP Delegate Count (1,144 needed to win) to date is: Romney 565; Santorum 256; Gingrich 141 and Paul 66.

Newt’s sugar daddy says he’s done?

Various news reports are saying Republican Tea Party (GOTP) presidential “no way it’s ever going to happen” hopeful Newton Leroy Gingrich’s being told he’s done, and Newton’s sugar daddy, casino magnate Sheldon Adelson’s apparently lost any hope in his electoral prospects; that’s pretty much the end when your one chief – if not only – backer decides you’re done. To date Adelson has reportedly poured about $16.5 million down the Gingrich drain.

Adelson’s conceded his “golden boy’s” basically got no chance of winning the GOTP nomination, “It appears as though [Gingrich is] at the end of his line. Because mathematically he can’t get anywhere near the numbers [of delegates required to gain the nomination], and there’s unlikely to be a brokered convention.”

Of course even if there’s a brokered convention who outside of Newt and Callista really believes he’d ever – in a million years – be the GOTP nominee?

Anyone?

Newton’s never had a chance; he’s not just damaged goods, he’s the box that fell out of the UPS truck on the interstate overpass and got pummeled by every other vehicle for the next three hours until there’s nothing left. He’s a failed former House Speaker who resigned in disgrace; a failed former House Speaker who had not one, but at least two extra-marital affairs, while prosecuting a President for lying about an affair; a failed former House Speaker who didn’t just have affairs but who also asked for an “open marriage” and who told one wife he was divorcing her while she was undergoing chemotherapy, all while trumpeting – wait for it – “family values”; yeah, like he ever had a chance; but hopefully he sticks around for awhile if only to annoy Willard.

Black Congressman evicted for wearing hoodie

Democratic Congressman Bobby Rush of Illinois was reportedly removed from the House floor after wearing a “hoodie” and sunglasses in protest of the Trayvon Martin shooting in Florida.

“Racial profiling has to stop,” Congressman Rush said as he peeled off his suit jacket to reveal a hoodie underneath, at which point he pulled the hood over his head and replaced his glasses with sunglasses. “Just because someone wears a hoodie does not make them a hoodlum.”

The Congressman then began citing passages from the Bible about the need “to do justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God” and about being “sent … to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and to recover the sight to the blind and to set the oppressed free …. I urge all men who hear these words to heed these lessons.”

Republican Tea Party Congressman Gregg Harper of Mississippi, who was presiding over the chamber at the moment, repeatedly hammered the gavel and tried to interrupt Rush, but he kept talking with a louder voice.

“May God bless Trayvon Martin’s soul, his family,” Congressman Rush shouted. He was still yelling as he was escorted off the floor by the House Sergeant at Arms.

Harper said Rush was removed for having violated House rules by wearing a hoodie and then felt the need to remind those in the chamber of the rules.

“Clause 5 of Rule 17 prohibits the wearing of hats in the chamber when the House is in session,” Harper said after Rush had been taken out. “The chair finds that the donning of a hood is not consistent with this rule. Members need to remove their hoods or leave the floor.”

Congressman Rush made a clear statement that the clothes do not “make the man”, while Harper demonstrated something entirely different. The entire Democratic Caucus needs to show up on the floor of the House in hoodies and sun glasses, and force someone like Harper to have hundreds of members of Congress escorted from the floor.

Well done Congressman Rush, very well done.

Medvedev tells Romney to look at a calendar once in awhile?

According to news reports Russian President Dmitry Medvedev responded to Republican Tea Party (GOTP) presidential frontrunner Willard Mitt Romney and his fellow political comedians (also known as GOTP presidential candidates) saying they need to flip their calendars out of the Cold War and stop making Russia out to be America’s “No. 1 enemy.”

“I always get very cautious when I see a country resort to phrasings such as ‘No. 1 enemy.’ It is very reminiscent of Hollywood in a certain period of history,” Medvedev said, through a translator, at the nuclear security summit in Seoul, South Korea.

He also said presidential candidates need “to listen to reason when they formulate their positions,” adding, “Reason never harmed a presidential candidate.”

The Russian President was responding to questions from the press about Romney’s declaration that Russia was “without question, our No. 1 geopolitical foe,” after an “open mic” incident involving Medvedev and President Barack Obama.

“My other advice is to check their clocks from time to time,” Medvedev said. “It is 2012, not the mid-1970s. No matter what party a candidate represents, he has to take the current state of affairs into account.”

Medvedev is exactly right, the GOTP candidates – particularly Romney – need to stop acting like its 1980 and the “Evil Empire” still exists; Romney’s in no way Ronald Reagan, and he really needs to stop running as though he were; of course it would help if his audience would also come into the 21st century.

Santorum Condemns ‘Pretend its Obama’ Comment

It’s being reported that while Republican Tea Party (GOTP) presidential hopeful Rick Santorum was visiting a firing range, during a campaign stop in West Monroe, Louisiana, taking a few shots at paper targets in front of an applauding group of supporters (cue the banjos) a woman called out (why am I not surprised), “Pretend it’s Obama!”

Because he was wearing hearing protection Santorum didn’t hear the moronic statement, and much to his credit he later told reporters he was glad he hadn’t heard it.

“It’s absurd,” he said. “No, we’re not pretending it’s anybody, but shooting pistols. It’s a very terrible and horrible remark, and I’m glad I didn’t hear it.”

This is one of those moments which defines a man’s character and adds to his stature and I applaud Santorum for standing up and saying the comment was wrong. It will no doubt cost him some votes with the type of people who say such things but in a tight primary season he did the right thing.

I like these little moments when I can see what his real values are, and that he knows when something is wrong. I disagree with most of what Rick Santorum believes in politically but I have a great deal of respect for him as a person and as a candidate because unlike other GOTP candidates his core values apparently can’t be shaken away and redrawn.

Unions aren’t the enemy

Recently Republican Tea Party (GOTP) presidential hopeful Willard Mitt Romney said he’s going to “push back” against so-called “federal teachers unions” in America; well, sorry to break it to Willard, but unions aren’t the enemy.

In fact:

If you get paid a living wage – you should thank a union member

If you work a 40 hour work week, and get paid overtime after that – you should thank a union member

If you get weekends off – you should thank a union member

If you get paid vacation time – you should thank a union member

If you get paid sick leave – you should thank a union member

If you have health care through your employer – you should thank a union member

If you get raises – you should thank a union member

If you have the right to arbitration in your work place – you should thank a union member

If you have retirement benefits – you should thank a union member

Conservatives love to bash unions in this country; they love to play the “blame game”, and unions are their favorite target, but without unions your life would be a lot different.

Business owners didn’t grant the above mentioned benefits to employees because of their great beneficence, they did it because of organized labor.

Conservatives love to blame the unions for our economic troubles but it wasn’t unions who drove the economy off the cliff during the Bush/Cheney years, and it wasn’t unions who created Governor Walker’s deficit problems; fact is only one group benefits from the destruction of labor unions in America and that’s the top 1% Republicans continuously try to protect.

If there’s an enemy in our economy it’s not the unions, it’s the uber-wealthy 1% hiding money in off shore accounts and claiming to be “job creators” while benefiting for the past ten years from massive tax cuts.

If you don’t like the aforementioned benefits, vote Republican, do it often enough and the day may come when you, or your children, won’t have them.
