Romney manages to offend Palestinians

According to the Associated Press (AP), Republican Tea Party (GOTP) presidential wannabe Willard Mitt Romney told Jewish donors this week it was their culture that allowed them to be more economically successful than the Palestinians, which of course outraged Palestinian leaders who called immediately called Willard’s comments not only out of touch but racist.

“As you come here and you see the GDP per capita, for instance, in Israel which is about $21,000 dollars, and compare that with the GDP per capita just across the areas managed by the Palestinian Authority, which is more like $10,000 per capita, you notice such a dramatically stark difference in economic vitality,” Willard mewed.

It took no time for Palestinian leaders to react, “It is a racist statement and this man doesn’t realize that the Palestinian economy cannot reach its potential because there is an Israeli occupation,” said Saeb Erekat, a senior aide to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

But the criticism of Romney didn’t end there, “It seems to me this man (Romney) lacks information, knowledge, vision and understanding of this region and its people,” Erekat added. “He also lacks knowledge about the Israelis themselves. I have not heard any Israeli official speak about cultural superiority.”

According to the AP, the economic disparity between the Israelis and the Palestinians is actually much greater than Romney claimed. Israel had a per capita gross domestic product of about $31,000 in 2011, while the West Bank and Gaza had a per capita GDP of just over $1,500, according to the World Bank.

Standing on Israeli soil for the first time as the GOTP’s presumptive presidential nominee, Willard declared Jerusalem to be the capital of the Jewish state and said the United States has promised never to “look away from our passion and commitment to Israel.”

Romney’s campaign says his trip abroad, which began with his sophomoric missteps in England, was supposed to improve his foreign policy experience through a series of meetings with foreign leaders; instead it’s been a very clear demonstration of how completely unprepared Willard is to assume the role as America’s President.

Obama releases $70 million for Israel before Romney trip

President Barack Obama seems to have trumped Republican Tea Party (GOTP) presidential wannabe Willard Mitt Romney by announcing he’s releasing an additional $70 million in military aid for Israel the day before Willard traveled to Israel on the second leg of his so-called international trip.

But it can’t possibly be a big deal for Romney since he’s already said he’d do the opposite of everything the President’s done for Israel. So, logically one can assume Willard wouldn’t have given any additional monies.

The stepped-up U.S. aid, first announced in May, will go to help Israel expand production of a short-range rocket defense system known as “Iron Dome”, which has proved successful at stopping rocket attacks fired at Israeli civilians from close range, including from Gaza. The President announced the new military assistance as he signed a bill in the Oval Office expanding military and civilian cooperation with Israel.

The President said the bill underscores the United States’ “unshakable commitment to Israel.”

Romney agrees with President Obama?

President Obama said, “Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business—you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen.”

Mitt Romney attacked him for it, but then Romney said, “There are a lot of people in government who help us and allow us to have an economy that works and allow entrepreneurs and business leaders of various kinds to start businesses and create jobs. We all recognize that. That’s an important thing. I know that you recognize that a lot of people help you in a business. Perhaps the banks, the investors. There’s no question your mom and dad. Your school teachers. The people that provide roads, the fire, and the police. A lot of people help.”

OK conservatives, Mitt agrees with president Obama there are a lot of people – including government – that help businesses get started, grow and succeed. Now shut your pie holes.

Romney Says Students Should Get ‘As Much Education As They Can Afford’?

According to news reports, Republican Tea Party (GOTP) presidential wanna-be Willard Mitt Romney has given some advice to future students while campaigning in Virginia.

“I think this is a land of opportunity for every single person, every single citizen of this great nation. And I want to make sure that we keep America a place of opportunity, where everyone has a fair shot. They get as much education as they can afford and with their time they’re able to get and if they have a willingness to work hard and the right values, they ought to be able to provide for their family and have a shot of realizing their dreams.”

The statement, “get as much education as they can afford” is no big shock coming from a rich kid whose biggest financial challenge while going to college was having to divest some of his stock portfolio while roughing it in a 3,000 + SF apartment. Willard’s other sage advice to students has been to “take risks” and even borrow money from their parents to fuel success.

This appears to be just another, “Let them eat cake” moment for the struggling GOTP candidate, who’s had a dismal time showing he’s in touch with middle and lower class Americans. “Get as much education as they can afford” smacks of elitism and begs the question, “So, only rich kids should go to college”? Maybe only rich kids who keep their hair cut short?

Some dare not call it racism

No other President has been treated with the amount of disrespect from his opponents – Congressman unprecedented interruption of State of the Union Address, and so-called “journalist” interrupting address in the Rose Garden – this one has; no other President has ever been asked for his birth certificate nor has any other President been called “boy”, or “man child” etc…

It’s got to be something, let’s look at what might attribute to this disrespect from opponents on the right?

He’s a Democrat!
Nope, that can’t be it we’ve had 16 Presidents who were Democrats and none were ever treated this badly

He’s a Lawyer!
Nope, we’ve had 21 lawyers, and while that certainly could be argued to be reason enough, no other Presidents who were lawyers have been treated like this

He went to Harvard!
Nope, had six of those

He was raised without a father!
Nope, had six of those

He’s a progressive!
Nope, we’ve had nine of those

He’s a man!
They’ve all been men so far – all 44

Well now, what does that leave us?

They hate him because he’s Hawaiian?
Somehow I doubt that’s the problem.

That leaves us with two things different from all the others, his name is Obama, or he’s Black?

Well, either of those things is certainly a first; he’s the first Black President and he’s the first one with a Muslim name – disliking him for either would be considered racism.

Romney says he’d do the opposite of everything President Obama’s done for Israel?

The Associated Press is reporting Republican Tea Party (GOTP) presidential hopeful Willard Mitt Romney’s declared he would do “the opposite” of what President Barack Obama has done on Israel.

“I think, by and large, you can just look at the things the president has done and do the opposite,” Willard mewed when asked about Israel.

Well, OK Willard let’s look at what the President’s done for Israel and apply your now official stance of doing the opposite.

Late in 2009, President Obama transferred 55 bunker-buster 5,000 pound bombs to Israel putting it in the perfect position to take out Iran’s buried nuclear facilities; or perhaps to target Hezbollah’s buried bunkers in Lebanon at its earliest convenience (https://thelibertytree.wordpress.com/2011/09/26/obama-gave-israel-bunker-busters/ ).

Since Willard’s living in “Oppositeland” he’d have done what President Bush did and refuse to give Israel the arms it needs to defend itself.

In September the President led the charge in the United Nations (UN) to deny the creation of a Palestinian state; in Romney’s alternate reality he would’ve then backed the creation of a Palestinian state.

Under President Clinton aid to Israel was $4,132,000,000 but under the Bush administration aid to Israel steadily declined to $2,424,000,000; under President Obama aid to Israel is on the rise once again $2,550,000,000 in 2009 and $2,770,000,000 in 2010 with continued increase expected through FY 12 – https://thelibertytree.wordpress.com/2011/10/20/president-obama%E2%80%99s-record-israel/ – Romney would no doubt cut spending to Israel since President Obama increased it, because he’d “look at the things the president has done and do the opposite”.

Once again Willard proves he’s either looking for his village or he’s an abject liar, or he’s an abject liar looking for his village; to make statements like he did today in opposition to the President’s very strong and supportive stance of Israel is beyond reason.

Poland ran death camps?

According to various news reports, Poland’s Prime Minister (PM) is rather upset over President Obama’s misspeak this week when he referred to “Polish death camps” during a ceremony honoring a World War II hero, saying he wants a “stronger, more pointed” response.

So, what’s the President to do? He can allow Poland to be upset for awhile, and allow conservative talking heads to make fun of him, or he can say he’s sorry and deal with the unending litany of being accused of apologizing for America again.

And while the phrasing may be considered hugely offensive in Poland, where Nazi Germany murdered Poles, Jews and others in death camps it built during World War II on Polish and German territory, the facts are more than 225,000 Poles served in the Wehrmacht, Kriegsmarine and even in the Waffen SS, so Poland isn’t exactly completely innocent when all things are considered.

Former President and Solidarity founder Lech Walesa said the phrase confused henchmen with their victims but that Obama’s mistake might prevent similar statements by others.

The White House has tried to explain that the president misspoke in bestowing the Medal of Freedom posthumously on Jan Kozielewski, alias Karski, a Polish emissary who in 1943 alerted Allied leaders to mass killing of Jews. In order to gather first-hand evidence he risked his life and was secretly smuggled into the Warsaw Ghetto and a death camp. Additionally, it was pointed out President Obama has visited the Warsaw Ghetto Memorial while in Poland and that he has repeatedly discussed the bravery of Poles during World War II.

Yes, Poland was and still is one of our strongest allies, but this was not a deliberate attempt to insult the Polish people, and in fact this continued petulance over the issue is overshadowing the awarding of the Medal of Freedom to one their countrymen; unfortunately, Poland can’t really deny there were death camps in Poland, and that Poles served in the military of the Third Reich; accept the explanation and move on, or perhaps you’d prefer to deal with your Russian cousins to the East?

Willard and Donald?

The Associated Press (AP) is reporting Republican Tea Party (GOTP) presumptive nominee Willard Mitt Romney’s courting voters and donors at a Las Vegas fundraiser with conservative businessman Donald Trump.

This latest trip into the venue of strange political bedfellows comes amidst fresh criticism from Republicans and Democrats alike over Trump’s continued questioning of President Obama’s citizenship, and yet, of course, Willard hasn’t condemned Donald’s moronic claims, offering yet again another example of abject reluctance to confront the GOTP’s more extreme elements.

Asked to weigh in on Trump’s birtherism, Willard equivocated, “I don’t agree with all the people who support me.” Of course no one really knows what that might be, but Willard continued, “But I need to get 50.1 percent or more.”

So, what exactly does that mean, “I don’t agree with all the people who support me,” and, “… I need to get 50.1 percent or more”?

Who’s exactly supporting Willard who he doesn’t agree with? Or even more importantly how far is he willing to push this logic?

To what extent will he go to win?

If he’s willing to pal around with the likes of Donald Trump who elses’ support is he willing to accept in order to reach the magic “50.1 percent or more”?

Where is the dividing line?

I have some questions, and I’m not trying to pick a fight, these are legitimate questions:

Calling marriage a civil union changes it how?

My parents were not married by a priest, or a bishop, they were married by a Justice of the Peace. Was that a civil union, or a marriage?

A man and woman can be married, but a woman and woman or a man and a man can only be joined in a civil union, but both will have the exact same legal restrictions and benefits attached, so it’s just a name thing?

If marriage is a religious sacrament, then can it only be performed by someone appointed to do so by religions, and if so why do those performing a religious sacrament have to be recognized by the state (government) for it to be accepted by the state?

Clearly marriage is not only a religious sacrament, but an act of the state as well. I had to get a marriage license from the state of Maryland before I could be married (sealed) in the Washington DC Temple to my wife; so, which is it, a religious sacrament or a civil act of the state?

Do we – as a nation – change the term marriage so it means only the act performed by religious authority, and if performed by anyone else it’s a civil union? And which religions do we recognize to be legally able to perform this rite?

Same sex relationships are taught by almost every religion to be sinful, but in the United States of America we have a clearly defined separation of Church and State, which by-the-way, protects not only the civil population from a state proscribed religion but the state – and hence the civil population – from religious theocratic rule. If we, as a people, proscribe marriage based on religious definition upon the civil population, what else will we proscribe thence, and which religion gets to be the determining authority? Which brand of Christianity gets to rule the nation from behind the curtain, or which group of religions? Is this not the beginnings of the dreaded Sharia Law as practiced by some in the world of Islam?

What other rules from the Old Testament do we proscribe upon the civil population? Do we – as parents – get to stone our children if they are disobedient? Do we kill the man who plants two different crops side by side? Do we kill those who break the Sabbath?

What is the dividing line between theocratic rule and our constitutionally established democratic republic?
