According to news reports, an incredibly obtuse Republican lawmaker in New Mexico has introduced a bill legally requiring rape victims to carry their pregnancies to term in order to use the fetus as evidence for a sexual assault trial.

House Bill 206, is the brain child of state Rep. Cathrynn Brown (R), and would charge a rape victim who ended her pregnancy with a third-degree felony for “tampering with evidence.”
“Tampering with evidence shall include procuring or facilitating an abortion, or compelling or coercing another to obtain an abortion, of a fetus that is the result of criminal sexual penetration or incest with the intent to destroy evidence of the crime,” the bill says, and third-degree felonies in New Mexico carry a sentence of up to three years in prison.
The bill’s unlikely to pass though since Democrats have a majority in both chambers of New Mexico’s state legislature.
Brown claims she introduced the bill with the goal of punishing the person who commits incest or rape and then obtains or facilitates an abortion to destroy the evidence of the crime.
Really, the baby’s going to be the only evidence of the rape? How about a rape kit used collect DNA evidence? Are you really this ignorant? Are you this arrogant?
“New Mexico needs to strengthen its laws to deter sex offenders,” said Brown. “By adding this law in New Mexico, we can help to protect women across our state.”
Wow, Republican Tea Party (GOTP) types have used tortured logic before in order to inflict additional harm upon rape victims – enforced vaginal probes, trying to define “legitimate” rape as well as claiming a woman’s body can prevent a pregnancy if she’s raped – but none has gone this far. Brown appears to be another unthinking right-wing zealot who will do whatever she can to impose her views; she serves as a member of the board of Carlsbad’s Right to Life chapter, and she’s also fond of posting pictures to her Facebook page from the Life’s Issues Institute such as the following:

Brown’s now attempting to backtrack claiming the bill, as introduced, was a misprint. Wanting to charge a rape victim with a third degree felony if she gets an abortion isn’t misprinting Representative, it’s a deliberate attempt to force your myopic Christianity upon everyone else. Thank God the Constitution provides for a separation of Church and State to protect my daughters and granddaughters, my nieces and friends from the likes of good god-fearing Christians like you.

According to FOX News there’s a little hick Texas school district bragging about how it may just be may be the very first in these darned blamed United States to pass a law allowing Schoolmarms and staff to tote shooting irons to school.

Who are these lame brains you ask? Well, they’re the so-called Trustees at the Harrold Independent School District and they approved a district policy change last October so employees can carry concealed firearms to deter and protect against school shootings, provided the teachers follow certain requirements.
Superintendent David Thweatt said the policy was initiated because of safety concerns.
“We have had employees assaulted before by people in the last several years,” Thweatt said. “I think that safety is big concern. We are seeing a lot of anger in society.”
But hold on thar now partner, don’t get your knickers all knotted up, in order for teachers and such to carry a pistol, they must:
- Have a Texas license to carry a concealed handgun – which means, “You’re breathing and can whistle Dixie”.
- Be authorized to carry by the district – what are the odds these numb nuts will tell someone no? Pretty close to zip I’d think.
- Receive training in crisis management and hostile situations – because teachers and janitors are always level headed and never get upset
- Use ammunition specifically designed to minimize the risk of ricochet in school halls – because you don’t want any ricochets, don’t worry about the caliber of the pistols firing the bullets, it’s OK if they pass through walls and doors, but for Pete’s sake don’t let them ricochet; you do understand there’s no such thing as ammo that doesn’t ricochet? Can we be any more obtuse?
Thweatt said the small community is too far from the sheriff’s office (30 minutes), leaving students and teachers without protection. He said the district’s lone campus sits 500 feet from heavily trafficked U.S. 287, which could make it a target.
Well here’s an idea Cletus, hire an armed school police officer or two; it’s a lot safer than arming teachers, secretaries, janitors, and lunch ladies, and you won’t have the chance of a teacher losing their cool with a class or a student and start waving their piece around. In more than ten years of teaching, and having worked with hundreds of teachers, there are maybe five I’d trust with a gun in school.
“The naysayers think [a shooting] won’t happen here,” Thweatt said. “If something were to happen here, I’d much rather be calling a parent to tell them that their child is OK because we were able to protect them.”
You can almost hear Thweatt’s next bright idea, “Next year we’re going to install minefields around the school and require staff and students to wear tin foil hats, because if the Ruskies or Koreans attack they’ll get caught up in the mines, and then the staff can mow them down, and well, the tin foil will prevent the space aliens from reading our minds.”

In the past year 70 people have been ruthlessly murdered by gunmen using either assault weapons – as in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting – or 9mm pistols with high capacity magazines.

And yet 1.3% of the nation’s total population of 315,167,682 people is keeping us – as Americans – from having the long overdue discussion and accompanying legislation to address this issue. The National Rifle Association has a reported 4,250,000 members, or 1.3% of the total population.
During the 2012 campaign cycle the NRA contributed $1,061,710 to the election process, with $719,596 being “donated” to federal campaigns. Of course the NRA also gave out hefty funds in the form of lobbying in 2012, totaling some $2,205,000. Total political contributions + lobbying = $3,266,710, or roughly $6,000 of peddling per member of the United States Congress. How do the other 99% fight that kind of money and influence?
Well, for starters, there are 169,000,000 registered voters (53.6% of the population) in the United States, including 86,000,000 registered Democrats (27.2% of the total population) and 55,000,000 registered Republicans (17.4% of the total population), with 28,000,000 registered others (8.8% of the total population). If each registered Democrat wrote to every member of the Congress and said they’d give them $5.00 a piece to pass meaningful legislation including a ban on assault weapons and high capacity magazines, that would equal $430,000,000 in influence divided between 535 members of Congress or $803,738 in campaign contributions; a great deal more than any member of Congress has ever received from the NRA.
And, if only half of all registered Democrats were to write to every member of Congress and offer to donate $5.00 a piece, that would equal $215,000,000 in influence, again divided between 535 members of congress equals $401,869 in campaign contributions; once again, a great deal more money than any member of Congress has ever received from the NRA.
A very simple solution to countering the NRA; money talks, and more money talks louder.

This really isn’t rocket science; here are my thoughts on helping to prevent another Sandy Hook or Aurora.

Step one – get the right-wing to stop making excuses for needing assault weapons and high capacity magazines – of course if they don’t we’ll just move on to step two without them.
Step two – ban assault weapons and high capacity magazines
Step three – increase funding for school security throughout country, mandate federal standards for security, i.e., doors, windows, armed police officers etc
Step four – increase federal funding for mental health care, or simply fully fund it under the Affordable Care Act.
If the right-wing won’t police its own house – ie, the NRA – then the rest of us will; the Congress and the Tea Party oppose meaningful gun legislation at their own political peril; in case they didn’t notice they didn’t win in November. This isn’t about the adults rights to own whatever thing (gun) they want, personal property rights do not trump another individual’s right to life – as in 20 first grade students slaughtered at Sandy Hook.

Enough with the excuses already; the shooter who murdered 26 people, including 20 children at Sandy Hook Elementary School, didn’t commit this unspeakable crime because there wasn’t prayer in school, or because he was allegedly addicted to “violent” video games. He did it because he was mentally ill and had easy access to semi-automatic weapons.
Did you get that? Let it sink in please. He did it because he was mentally ill and had easy access to semi-automatic weapons.

President Ronald Reagan defunded mental health care in America and President George W. Bush allowed the assault weapons ban to expire – that’s the NRA, uber-conservative legacy that was bequeathed to those 20 first graders at Sandy Hook. Enough with loving guns more than children; enough with claiming to be “pro-life” protecting the fetus in the womb at all cost but allowing innocent lives to be sacrificed on the altar of the second amendment. You don’t need semi-automatic pistols with 30 round clips or AR-15s and AK-47s to defend your home or to hunt with.
The Second Amendment was written to guarantee the “well regulated” arming of a militia, not for gun collecting or target shooting. The Second Amendment isn’t sacrosanct; it wasn’t written on a stone tablet by the finger of God; it was written in the 19th century to help a young fledgling nation protect itself in a world dominated by the military powers of Europe. We no longer defend our nation by citizen armed militias; we do it by a well trained, well armed and well lead professional military, and spare me that you need your weapons to protect yourself and your prosperity from the heavy handed federal government. It’s time to remove the tin foil hats, and face reality. There isn’t going to be a zombie apocalypse, nor an invasion from North Korea, China or Russia, nor is the 101st Airborne Division going to come rolling into small town America to enforce the ranting of a police state.
We need to wake up in America. We need to make mental health care a priority in this country again and fully fund it, and we need to make it illegal to own semi-automatic and automatic pistols and assault weapons. Not one more child will be lost because we won’t face the truth. Not one more child will be lost.
Please sign my petition calling upon Congress and the President to outlaw weapons used in these mass murders. Not one more child.

According to the Associated Press (AP), Republican Tea Party (GOTP) presidential footnote Willard Mitt Romney’s telling top donors President Obama was re-elected because of the “gifts” he’d given to Blacks, Hispanics and young voters, and because of the painting him as anti-immigrant.

“The president’s campaign, if you will, focused on giving targeted groups a big gift,” Romney said in a special call to “big” donors this week. “He made a big effort on small things.”
Of course during his call he didn’t bring up any of his own screw ups, like his infamous “47 percent” remark, his lack of support for the auto bailout, his call for illegal immigrants to “self-deport,” or his flip-flopping virtually on every single position.
Among the so-called “gifts” Willard maintains the President had given out in order to win were free health care “in perpetuity,” which Romney alleged was highly motivational to Black and Hispanic voters as well as for voters making $25,000 to $35,000 a year.
Willard also claimed the promise of “amnesty” to the children of illegal immigrants –”the so-called DREAM Act kids” – helped send Hispanics to the polls for Obama.
Then were the “young voters”, which Romney stated, were motivated by the administration’s plan for partial forgiveness of college loan interest and being able to remain on their parents’ health insurance plans. And of course there were the young women who had the additional incentive to vote for the President because of “free contraception coverage” under the president’s health care plan.
So, according to Willard Mitt Romney, he lost because more than 50% of voters were bought off, not because he sucked, his campaign sucked or because the GOTP’s policies really suck. Not only was Mitt a sad candidate, he’s even a sadder loser.

Back in August – an eternity ago in political world – Republican Tea Party (GOTP) vice presidential wannabe Paul Ryan gave an interview to WJHL-TV in Johnson City, TN, where he defended his position there should be no excuses for abortion, actually referring to rape as a “method of conception.”

EXCUSE ME?! RAPE IS NOW A “METHOD OF CONCEPTION”?! ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR BLOODY MIND!? While rape may resort in conception – unless you’re Todd Akin – it’s nowhere remotely close to love-making, you know love-making, as in the legitimate way of conceiving a child where two consenting adults copulate, or “make love”?
As the father of two daughters, and a father-in-law, I can’t conceive of the world these conservative troglodytes live in; RAPE is RAPE! This isn’t rocket science! Akin, Mourdock and Ryan are idiots, morons and imbeciles, and have no business being involved in politics and in making decisions regarding women’s bodies. How is it possible any educated woman, no cross that, any woman could vote for these guys? Welcome to the brave new world of today’s Republican Tea Party!

Republican Tea Party (GOTP) U.S. Senate candidate Richard Mourdock’s declared he opposes aborting pregnancies conceived in rape because “it is something that God intended to happen.”

Mourdock’s astounding assertion came during a debate against Democratic opponent Congressman Joe Donnelly in their final Senate race showdown, a questioner asked them and Libertarian candidate Andrew Horning to explain their views on abortion.
All three said they were anti-abortion. But Mourdock went further, “The only exception I have to have an abortion is in the case of the life of the mother,” he said. “I struggled with it myself for a long time, but I came to realize life is that gift from God. I think that even when life begins in that horrible situation of rape, that it is something that God intended to happen.”
While his campaign issued a statement allegedly claiming GOTP presidential wannabe Willard Mitt Romney disagrees with Mourdock’s comments, and they don’t reflect his views, Romney has yet to comment.
Mourdock later tried to clarify his comments, saying God does not intend sexual assaults.
“God creates life, and that was my point,” he mewed in a statement. “God does not want rape, and by no means was I suggesting that He does. Rape is a horrible thing, and for anyone to twist my words otherwise is absurd and sick.”
“Richard Mourdock’s disturbing comment about rape is a window into Mourdock’s extreme view of the world,” said Shripal Shah, spokesman for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee. “Indiana can’t afford to send a self-proclaimed ‘zealot’ and Tea Partier like Richard Mourdock to the Senate.”
It’s fascinating how often GOTP candidates have stepped all over themselves – especially this year – regarding abortion and rape. It’s equally fascinating how quickly they feel they need to “clarify” statements like, “I think that even when life begins in that horrible situation of rape, that it is something that God intended to happen.” There’s no way to clarify that, it’s pretty clear, Mourdock’s an idiot. Hopefully these types of extremists will soon be sent packing and the Tea Party will be relegated to the dust bin of political history it belongs.
